This piece seeks to create the illusion of 2d space using 3d objects. Objects painted with graphic patterns are combined in a still life composition with 2d patterns on flat paper, creating situations of dimensional ambiguity.

This poster series explores the intersection of 2 and 3d by combining digital 2d shapes with actual 3d structures. By using 3d constructions of paper, the posters manipulate the apparent size of planes, physical depth, and perspective, inviting the viewer to look closely and discover spatial complexity.
Noha Khashoggi, Inverted Panorama
âThe heightened sensitivity of the picture plane may no longer permit Sculptural illusion, or trompe-lâoeil, but it does and must permit optical illusion. The first mark made on a canvas destroys its literal and utter flatness, and the result of the marks made on it by an artist like Mondrian is still a kind of illusion that suggests a kind of third dimension.â
This projectâs goal is to take the flat 2d Picture plane and extending it in space. Creating  a multi plane cube with one perspective point in the center of the cube. In a way challenging/proving Greenburgâs remark on the picture plane not being the best solution for a sculptural illusion or 3D.
The object is a 12â cube that shows all sides of an abstract landscape. The viewer can flip and turn it to see all sides of the landscape from the outside. So unlike a panorama where the point of view is from within, this âinverted panoramaâ gives the audience a point of view from the outside looking in.

Composed as a set of two sister images, this project is an experiment on visual perception and figure-ground relationships in traditional photography. In both images, the whole composition was created in the actual three dimensional space, with no digital montage or post-production. From far away, the first image is intended to look like an ordinary, out-of-focus scene, but when the viewer looks closer, they will realize that there are some parts of it that are off: the head is in the correct scale, but the hand touching the head is bigger than it should be; the head is out of focus, but its edges are not; and the hand in the foreground is the only thing that appears to be on focus. The second image is intended as an explanation of the first one, exposing its play with scale and focus.
Katie Barger, Foild
Foild is a screen installation produced by flickering between two stereoscopic images and phases of black. Stereoscopic images are two images tekn consecutively from slightly different angles (left eye and right eye). When viewed through a stereoscope, these two images are joined together to make one image that has an active depth. This phenomena can also be perceived by cross- eyed viewing of two stereoscopic images. This piece examines how active depth can be manipulated in order for the naked eye to perceive depth in flat photographs without the aide of a stereoscope and without the act of cross-eyed viewing.
