Canāt sleep tonight so itās time to scrawl stuff from memory (I donāt really listen to the Gorillaz anymore, other than to their old stuff)
taken verbatim from a reddit ama the band did a few years ago that i think about a lot
āIt burnt my hand, so I punched it.ā
I have never seen anything more in character, in my life
did you discontinue shelter? or did u leave gorillaz fandom altogether?
Iāve left the fandom for a while, but I may go back to it at some point, so no, the fic isnāt officially canceled, just on hiatus.
2D: Noodle wot do ya call a laughing piano?
Noodle: ā¦.
2D: Yama-hahahaha!
Murdoc: Someone get me a shoe, Iāll handle this.
Prologue
The first pages of my webcomic are up RIGHT NOW! GO READ IT PLEASE! :D
ā¼ļøHE IS BACKā¼ļø
āGorillaz break their silenceā - 2D, Russel and Murdoc banter about their cancelled film on the official Gorillaz messageboard, February 24, 2003
This is adorable! I love how they interacted with each other in phase 1. Not only did we get to see Russelās sparkling personality utilized, but we get to see his friendship with Murdoc and 2D. They all sounded like really close friends back thenā¦
On Tranz: Russel is happy for once. Wow. But is everyone else okay?Ā
The strings on Noodleās guitar were rainbow so gay Noodle confirmed?
Please no more claymations they haunt me.Ā
i think u mentioned u have headcanons about noodles real name did u ever tell us them? because i would love to hear them if ur okay with it!!
Noodle's real name is a number, which the facility she was brought up in gave to her. You can guess why she likes Noodle so much more
hey uh so while reading your blog i remember you said that 2D was neglected emotionally during his childhood, can i see some articles or something that supported this claim?? if you didnt say it, sorry!! but if it's true.. damn. 2D and Murdoc's relationship would have so much interesting potential. sorry for bothering you :0
āMy dream was to play for my local team, Crawley Town FC, but my mum and dad taught me not to aim too high.ā (X)
Playing for a local team⦠really isnāt a very high goal⦠Imagine what other goals and interests his parents devalued and discouraged him from pursuing.Ā
Thereās also the fact his mom, even though she had the education and access to NOT allow it to happen, still started and facilitatedĀ his addiction to painkillers after he got his first concussion.Ā
2D generally had a good childhood, certainly better then Murdocās. You can seeĀ howĀ nostalgicĀ heĀ is for it when he talks about the fairgrounds. but yeah⦠that neglect, totally presentā¦Ā
No bother!! <3
so uh you gonna write more of Shelter or...? (you definitely should, I was hooked!)
Yes, I am! Hereās a small sneak peak:
2D threw down the Tamagotchi toy and headed for the window. āDonāt let it in.ā Noodle said.
The singer looked between the red, beady eyes of Cortez and the fearful, warning looks of his bandmates. āItās gonna rain.ā
āItās a smart bird, āD, itāll know how to avoid it.ā
Stuart seemed to consider his options, before shrugging and opening the window, letting the bird into the dry, warm confines of the studio. Cortez looked over each of the band members warily, realizing there was no Murdoc in sight. Reluctantly it settled for the second best option, hopping up on 2Dās arm and nesting there, seeming in no hurry to leave its perch anytime soon.
āWhoās a good girl? You are, thatās who.ā The singer grinned appreciatively at the agent of murder, scratching it under the chin like he would a dog. āIām gonna go find you that bread you like.ā And he wandered into the kitchen.
GORILLAZ - M1A1 au Festival des Vieilles Charrues 2018
Full (or most) translation of the new Billboard Argentina interview to Gorillaz that no one noticed.
Forgive if my english is a bit tacky, my first language is spanish.
2-Dās smile seems unnatural, a perversion from his real persona. There are so few times that he has been happy, that the nerve he shows with his teeth only makes it even more morbid. While the singer and keyboardist from Gorillaz plays with Jack Black and slides with his roller-skaters through Venice Beach, meanwhile, in another place of the world, some orange overalls wrap the body of a certain bassist. Murdoc is in jail⦠again.
You just need to know the hostility that takes place in both musicians to comprehend 2-Dās smile: Murdoc had sex with his girlfriend, he is an opportunist, bossy and sadistic, and responsable of the irreparable damage in his eyes. Now, the sports outfit that 2-D displays in the recent video of āHumilityā is the motto of his identity, the badge that shows how he wants the others to see him as, free. Because he found a different way to be, and that implies to Murdoc behind bars.
āMurdoc? Whoās Murdoc?ā Ha, haā2-D mocks when Billboard asks him about his mateā. He could read this, so I will clarify that what I said was just a jokeā. Nevertheless, he whispers: āSsh, between you and me, miss journalist, we donāt want him here. Thatās totally off the record, so donāt write that down. Life is beautiful without him; itās like a dark, heavy shadow has vanished. Besides, the air around us smells so much better. Thereās less explosive traps hidden in the house, and we no longer have to stand his sobs at 4 a.m when he listens to Whitney Houston. He would get insanely mad if that last fact was revealed to the public, but luckily this will not be published. (Side note from the magazine: As an exception, this magazine is not subject to the professional journalistic secret.)
In the mean time, from his jail, Murdoc marks: āI was duped. I was condemned for a serious crime that I did not commit. Iām like Tim Robbins in the film The Shawshank Redemption, just prettier and I fucking hate opera. Besides, Iām not wasting my time here trying to get out of here with a goddamn rock. Instead, Iām calling Gorillaz fans worldwide to manifest against illegitimate prison cases (but, principally, just mine). Use the #FreeMurdoc hashtag! Itās the biggest injustice since Mandela. Spread the word! Free me! Seriously⦠please, free me⦠Iām going crazy, and meanwhile, 2-D steals the spotlight. If there was any bit of justice, I would be free and he would be my lap dog, like it used to be before.ā
Interviewer: With Gorillaz you always exposed the dark side of life; sometimes you did it jokingly and other times you showed yourselves more critical and direct. Murdoc, if you had to compose a song right in this moment, what would protest against?
Murdoc: Itās true, we bring light to the darkest things of life, but inside here Iām trying to not show much. Especially on the showers. Temptation is one of the seven deadly sins, and this place is fucking filled with sinners. Nevertheless, I want to see a change in the world in terms of unjust imprisonment. It ruins lives, like mine, and it conducts to even greater injustices: People like 2-D takes advantages of this to ruin the fame of other people, like me, who worked hard to get it.
Interviewer: Youāre composing in there. Have you thought of becoming a soloist?
M: Yes, definitely, for fuckās sake. I always knew that bringing another members to my project would ruin my natureās individual purity. But until scientists achieve cloning, or a way to insert more limbs into my torso, I canāt play drums, synths, guitars, sing and shake my ass all at the same time. Or can I?
The pride in his words clearly shows his ignorance: Murdoc still doesnāt know that Gorillaz has found a replacement of Ace, from the Gangreen Gangāthat mafia of villains that conspired against the Powerpuff Girlsā. The new member appeared for his first time on the video of āHumilityā; later, on the recent album The Now Now, and now, on tour. Every single one of Aceās breaths shows Murdoc his own sentece, while he satisfies 2-Dās vengeance.
Gorillazā narrative arc grew so much that it needed to feed itself with another world. It makes sense that Ace was chosen: The universes from this two universes had already crossed with each other āfor example, in 2002, a picture of 2-D circulated, he was wearing a t-shirt with a Mojo Jojo stamp on it, the main villain from the Powerpuff Girls; and in the movie of the three heroins in that same year, you can see on the backside of a newspaper the announcement of a Gorillaz showā. But thatās not all: In the internet thereās this theory running around, saying that the androgynous devil from the Powerpuff Girls, with the alias of āHimā, will enter in the story. In fact, in the video of āHumilityā you can read in various opportunities the phare: āSave us from Himā.
āAce is cool. He made his way in the show business exploding balls from kids and stealing their lunch money. Ace has not reclaimed a cent, which shows his respect towards my new songs ā2-D saysā.Although, he has dared to spend a lot our of pound and pennies. He also stole my toaster and sold it to Russel for five dollars. Russel was kind enough to let me buy it from him for ten dollars. We work well together.
[I skipped a part here because itās way too long and talks more about the tour, the release of Humanz, Damon Albarn and Demon Dayz.]
I: When Noodle entered the band she was ten years old. A few ago, The GuardianĀ questioned Sia for working with Maddie Ziegler, who is 15 years old. The journalist said on the note: āIf fame is so harmful, why give it to a child?ā. What is your view on this topic?
Russel: Woah, itās complicated⦠I guess what youāre insinuating is that fame corrupts people. I do not agree with that notion, if you deal with it in the right way. Nowadays, Iām trying to make it not affect 2-D, now that heās had a boom of followers (he calls them ā2-Disciplesā, cute, isnāt it?). Truth is that Noodle has always been more mature than the rest of us. Before joining the band, she already dealt with a life full of pain. Imagine that the girl arrived with a full samurai armor.
I: Humanz left one question on the air: Are you alive or programmed?
Noodle: Eeeh, are you asking me the deepest philosophical question in the whole universe? Well, thank you! If we have free will? Mmm⦠this morning 2-D accidentally served himself a bit of my kombu on his cereal. By the way, kombu is a type of edible seaweed that is dehydrated from the northeast of Asia. Whoever programmed that for it to happen has a great sense of humor. Truth is that we all try to program ourselves with each other. But, does that mean that we are not alive? Being alive and programmed is the same thing. I believe. Or maybe Iām programmed to think in that way. Ah! My neurons are collapsing! This is your fault. Now I have to remain with my head down for an hour. Bye bye!
Even if they fall back on their "it's all about the music" excuse, Jamie has already stated that Phase 6 is going to be character-centric. I think you're probably right that no one on the Gorillaz team knows how to communicate with each other, because I'm getting all kinds of mixed signals and have no idea what to make of the band or what they're trying to achieve these days. I also think the "edgy humour" is very dated and tasteless, but maybe that's just me.
Good point!
And yeah, Iām already bracing myself for w/e Phase 6 will end up being (I hope to be pleasantly surprised but likeā¦phase 4 and 5 were/are both messes imo tbh, and they really didnāt have to be.)
screamymeemies said: Hope you donāt mind my commenting, but I feel itās a really big case of wanting their cake and eating it too. Maybe with savvy writers they could actually pull that offāfind a good balance between handling serious themes but still have that quirky, humorous edgeābut thus far it seems theyāve been juggling a few too many balls that A LOT of them are being dropped. Thatās what happened with Phase 3, and Iām worried theyāre repeating the same mistakes.
Itās okay to comment! I just donāt always get to my replies, but this one went along well with this anon. Yeah, drama/comedy is a total thing (see ā> dramady) and different writers can achieve different balances. A work thatās mostly comedic IS capable of also being thoughtful and touching, and angst-fest can have some humor, but the current writers they have now seem to be struggling with thisā¦At the same time I wouldnāt put it all on them like, some of it is Jamie for going so heavy with Phase 3 and then just like, forgetting about it (and the narrative in general) during Phase 4. I do think that itās all ultimately not meant to be That Serious⢠but it would be nice if they made that a little more clear and maybe steered away from the heavy topics if theyāre just going to forget about them anyways.
It's kind of a problem for long franchises with tons of people working on them, like with Marvel comics and stuff like Doctor Who. The narrative changes so much you end up feeling confused and treating each phase as its own semi-canon thing.
