here is an incredibly inexhaustive list of shit that was going on in bannerfall that, if they didn't have proper and thorough communication about, would've been really bad to just rawdog improvised roleplay of live on stream:
cam tried to kill himself because he was possessed(?) by an entity that then led to his hometown getting plagued. the whole cast then relived his traumas in a dreamworld.
ok i might be wrong abt the specifics of this but there were TWO characters with backstories that are explicitly or allegorically about child abuse. one of them is a cat that got turned into a human and doesn't really understand human rules :) the other is a human that also didn't really understand human rules (at the start). make your connections as you wish
shan was quite tormented about how she was a monster and how she caused* the death of her whole tribe, and would break down in front of other characters about this. sometimes as a bit!
there was a running bit where 4c (a slime) gets nonconsensually licked by frogue (a. frog) in order to procure froglights. they laughed abt this often.
owain's extensive habits of egregious self harm and general prostation. i believe it's either the flagellant or the vestal from darkest dungeon that he was inspired by, so.
scott was like grieving i guess
um like everything about katie and nom and 4c. many, many, many scenes and conversations concerning them had undertones (or just plain tones, really) of abuse--sorry, i mean toxicity. and this was unraveled thoroughly throughout the whole smp, even forming the emotional throughline for the "main plot" for a lot of viewers/perspectives
4nk in particular is provably heavy because the players themselves near the end would refuse to go into lore because of how heavy it had been ^-^ also that one chatter that said they had to go pray in the bathroom after one such conversation to calm down. yippee. various times too they would intentionally segue into lighthearted segments bc of this!
there was also that one time that during a hangout that explicitly was meant to be out of character, two players suddenly went into character and broke down to 4c about their respective traumas. he was in (legitimate, joking, whatever) distress about this! like he verbalized that he didnt know what to fucking do or how to handle it! but he still handled it for like. an hour or so. and this happened back to back (noise warning!!!). and they were just supposed to hang out and have fun like. idk.
now, tbf, there have been no serious streams or big dramatic reveals or fallouts that have resulted from all of this*, so whether or not this was actually that big of a deal is up for the viewer to decide. me personally, i just think that it's really really really fucking bad etiquette to go about this all so haphazardly, and that they are extremely fucking lucky that things never actually got that bad. just. omfg.
*well. there is graecie introducing consent forms to the flight smp.
oh i should fucking mention that graecie was sort of... shoehorned into a "therapist" role and very frequently her character had to be the one to mediate or comfort or stabilize other characters :/ my thoughts on this are all filtered through a red haze and should be a different post and will probably lead into me hating on flight instead so ill leave that there
