It's so great to see Zoe again! I can't believe that it's been 2 months since I've seen her! I miss having her in my life everyday! She is showing me her city, and I'm having a blast! Maybe if I don't think about leaving, I won't have to!

I finally made it to Vienna! I couldn't fly there, so I ended up having to take the bus for 8 hours! It actually wasn't that bad, I got to see the European countryside and just relax for a couple hours! Note to self: Make sure the plane ticket is under YOUR name...
Yesterday I took my second host family out for MeXiCaN FoOd!!! (I've missed mex so much) So starting from left to right it is *clears throat* my host brother Robin, my other host brother Raven, my host dad Thomas, Ich, and my host mom Sandra! I'm so thankful that they have taken me into their family, and treated me like a daughter!
Kiara and I went shopping the other day and although incredibly unproductive, it was very fun! I bought 2 pens and 2 apples.... We also walked a lot! And failed at going thrift shopping because the shop we went all the way across the city for was... Surprise Surprise.... Closed.
This week in ultimate dog training: I have travel the world becoming the ultimate dog trainer. Here is what I discovered in Germany. Yoshi was a merciless dog when I met him, however after weeks of training, Yoshi obeys my commands.
Killing it with my bro (He has no idea I took this ✌🏻️)
Today my host family and I went to Checkpoint Charlie! Checkpoint Charlie was one of the crossover points where people from East Berlin could travel to West Berlin! I believe that it was also in the American Sector if Berlin! (I may be completely wrong here) The first picture is me with some "American" soldiers, who were at the checkpoint. They must have taken 5,000 pictures that day, but they were pretty surprised that I was actually from America!!! The next two pictures are from a museum on the next block. It showed what the wall would have looked like in the 1970's. If you look closely you can see how desolate the east side is, and how the government boarded up windows of apartments close to the wall to prevent people from jumping out to the west side. On the west side, there are actually tourists visiting the wall. Next, we went to a museum about how people would escape though the wall. Many people died trying to escape. Finally the last picture is one of the many ways people would escape from east Berlin. The box is actually a amplifier that are used in bands! Berlin has such an interesting and tragic history, I'm so blessed that I had this opportunity to learn about this unique culture today.
This last weekend my host family and I went to Ulrike's 50th birthday party! She is a friend of Sandra's. We drove about 2 hours, and ended up at this cute rustic cabin! There was lot of people there but it was a perfect night to have a party! We even ate wild boar! It spun on that rack for hours, and it was worth it because it tasted like wild heaven. Then to end the night we all slept on piles of hay! Technically it's straw. Thanks Dad, I'm so glad I know the difference. Of course we had sleeping bags, but by the morning I had a pretty good nest!
This is Alexanderplatz, Sandra and I went here a couple days ago and did a little shopping! The “T.V Tower" is also here, and I would say that that is one of the most popular sights in Berlin. However it was to cloudy to go up to the top, hopefully I get to go up there before I leave!
My European phone (from the freaking 80’s) stopped working while I was there, and I was about to just go home alone, but I asked some people to use their phone to call Sandra (they actually turned out to be Jehovah’s Witnesses) but then the number didn’t work! I don’t even know. European technology eludes me. In the end everything worked out and I found Sandra and I’m not lost in the streets of Berlin!
I got a new poncho this week! I just think it is so cute! It is so warm and it's basically just a socially acceptable way of wearing a giant blanket! #SoCool 😎
SPIDER UPDATE:
It is currently 2:15 in the morning and I just overcame the biggest challenge of my exchange (and probably my life). I just flushed a gigantic spider, solo. Now, this was no ordinary spider this was a 2 in. Daddy Long Leg. It was sitting in its web just above my bed. I didn't really know what to do so I just caught it with a nearby cup. It was terrifying because I was on a ladder and I had this HUGE spider trapped on the ceiling but I didn't know what to do with it! Well, with the help of my Mom and Grandma I carried that monster waiter-style to the bathroom and flushed the beast back to hell, where it belongs.
For dinner today we went to Tiergarten lake! (yes, another lake). This one is in the middle of the city! It was such an amazing atmosphere there was hundreds of people eating homemade pizza and pasta! It was the perfect end to a summer day! They even had row boats that you could take and row around in the small lake! It was so peaceful there that you could not even tell that you were surrounded by the hustle of the city!
This is what a usual S-Bahn train car looks like. Well, when it's not full of people! P.s. There is always at least one dismembered body part in the train cars, it's a tradition P.p.s. That that's comment was sarcasm.
This was a couple days ago, but it was my first time eating curry wurst ever! Curry wurst (along with Döner) is famous in Berlin. It's a hot dog (but not) cut up with French fries, sour cream, and a sort of ketchup. I never thought I would say sour cream on fresh fries was good, but hot damn it is. Curry 36 is actually the first place to bring curry wurst to Berlin, so that was pretty special too, but it also meant that we had to wait for 15 min. in line. In the picture on the bottom it is Me, my host dad Thomas, _______ (?), then Robin, and Raven (host brothers).
I've made so many great friends here in Germany! I will miss everyone, and I will defiantly come back to visit! I'm just so thankful that I've had this life changing opportunity to make international friends, and learn about the German culture! I've only known everyone for 5 weeks, but it seems like I've known them for years. They have welcomed me in with open arms, and I wish I could bring everyone back to Nebraska with me!
Well looks like my second host family lives in China!!! Yea, this is a Chinese restaurant in Höhen Neundorf! This is about the only building that I’ve seen that doesn’t look exact like a house!!!
You know your in Germany when...
