TS2 Beta Reflective Floors Experiment
Hello!
Remember that unused floor reflection camera I briefly mentioned the other week? Well, today I was a bit bored and figured I'd try and see how it looks.
The reflective floor shader was completely gutted for the final release of TS2, but thankfully the remnants of it still exist in the beta materials that have been floating around online for ages.
If you try and use the beta floor materials in your game, the floor reflections won't work for two reasons:
1. There's only 2 or 3 floors defined as being reflective in the shader and none of them exist in the final game.
2. The function that initialises the floor reflection camera isn't actually called from anywhere, so it never gets created.
With this in mind, I set a random tiled floor to be reflective, threw a call to the camera setup function into a spot that looked somewhat sensible, and what do you know? Semi-functioning floor reflections:
If I had known this was going to sort of work, I would have picked a better floor to showcase...
I say semi-functioning because there was some major ghosting in the reflections on my first attempt. You can see this in the plumbob trail that is being created across the floor in the screenshot above.
After a few tweaks the ghosting disappeared, but now the reflections are being drawn at the height of the terrain, rather than the height of the reflective floor:
I have a feeling this is because I added the camera creation call in haphazardly without any checks for whether a floor was reflective, so it's probably being attached to the first floor type the game finds on the ground level.
Can't promise I'll get this working, but if I do, I'll let you know :)
