Cher (along with her then-husband Sonny Bono) during the semi-regular Vamp number on The Sonny and Cher Show, originally broadcast by CBS on December 27th, 1971. Cher's costumes were, as always, designed by Bob Mackie, and she appeared in the number as Egyptian queen Nefertiti, German screen legend Marlene Dietrich (in her iconic 1930 Blue Angel guise), and fictional temptress Sadie Thompson from the 1921 W. Somerset Maugham short story Rain (which was adapted for the stage in 1922 starring Jeanne Eagels as Sadie, followed by screen adaptations starring Gloria Swanson in 1928, Joan Crawford in 1932, and Rita Hayworth in 1953).
