Two Things That I'm Gonna Diatribe On
Alright, I know the ol' football blog here has been slow as hell, but I'm gonna vent for a second on one topic and commend some people on another. Let's start with the good:
Bravo to the NFL Coaches.
They officially sided with the players today in the labor dispute. Is it gonna matter? Probably not, because the owners are a bunch of greedy bitches. So let's look at this. 31 team owners and the league vs. the players, the coaches, and the fans. Quit being douchebags! Settle this shit and let's get back to football. If you (the owners and Darth Goodell) haven't realized it yet, the players, fans, and even now the coaches hate you. Suck it up, salvage what you can, and move on.
Now, the pissed off part:
FUCK the NFL Rules group. Whoever is in charge of making them should die in a fire. Don't know what I'm talking about it? Click the link below:
The "Steelers Rule"
I'll wait for you to finish reading it. Done? Good. Yes, the NFL is punishing TEAMS now if the same player gets fined/penalized repeatedly for overly aggressive play. In, ya know, an overly aggressive sport. That is based on tackling. This hurts players and teams around the league. There has always been an ability to intimidate your opponents because of a physical style of play...until now. Lamar Woodley and James Harrison have spoken out extensively about this so far. It's the "Steelers Rule", but it doesn't just apply to them. There are other teams (Ravens) and players (Suh, Urlacher, Ware) that could really be affected by this. The one part of this that absolutely makes my jaw drop is when they say that while this will primarily be financial fines, there could be instances where teams can be docked draft picks! Are you fucking serious??? This man:
Is rolling in his nonexistant grave (because he's still alive). As is Dick Butkus. And about 100 years of great football players. I'm waiting for physical running backs that are going to start getting penalized for trucking defenders too hard (here's looking at you Brandon Jacobs). Geez.
