All at Once / The glowing moon and shining sun
as someone who's writing a greek myth adaptation, most of them completely miss the whole point of the story they're adapting and no I will not elaborate
The way nobody would gaf about Hyacinthus had he been a woman. Like, none of them care about Daphne, or Cyrene, or Coronis.
#hyapollo is like the medusa of greek myth ships tbh #like holy shit dude everyone whom I’ve known and their ‘fav’ myth was hyapollo #they all just liked fanfic and retelling bullshit and refused to pick up a classic
Yes, because tragedy ridden straight couples are famously unpopular in the greek myth fandom. Hades x Persephone and Orpheus x Eurydice and Eros x Psyche who?
I wonder why queer people and women online, who like a god known for breaking gender convention, are so invested in a pairing between two seemingly consenting male characters in a loving relationship that ends in tragedy and is beautifully recounted in Metamorphosis, one of the most popular sources ever, instead of Apollo’s obscure wife or the woman who he murdered in a fit of jealous rage who has just as much of a barebones personality as Hyacinthus.
Also how do people not care about Daphne? What spaces are you even in? Almost every pop culture thing that centers Apollo inevitably brings up Daphne, almost every fan work that goes in depth on Apollo’s character or mythological analysis of him that I’ve seen discuss Daphne. Every informative video, article, myth collection will tell you about Daphne before any other myth associated with Apollo. What else do you want people to do? Write fanfiction about them? Draw fanart?
But since you claim people should be caring about these female characters, I’m sure you spend your time bringing attention to them on your own blog. Let me just use the search function - Oh wait. That’s crazy I can’t find anything.
Okay petty jokes aside, I get that fandom is cringe about women a lot, but genuinely where is this particular discourse getting anyone? How is accusing people who like an m/m pairing of not caring about women bringing positive attention to these female characters at all. Same thing goes for “People should be talking bout Apollo x Admetus/Branchus/Other male characters instead”. What does this do besides create stupid infighting between (let's be honest mostly) queer people.
Listen, I throw Pindar’s Pythian Odes at people all the time. I make fun of Cyrene and her cringefail child. I cry over Ars Amorata and Our Lady Rusticates like a little bitch on this blog. I exitedly scream at every Admetus/Branchus/Boreas writer/artist I find. I‘m a sucker for all of Apollo’s stupid love interests but needless shipping discourse is so not the way.
Do it yourself if you care so much. Support creators who talk about these figures instead of shitting on people who don't. Pick up a pen. Or touch grass.
decided to exercise my free will and drew my new (muscular and male-presenting) dnd character in a wedding dress
(from a your class-your wedding dress video I saw on ig)
Enjoy
apollo indulging in some future artifacts
Helen of Troy/Sparta
I love Lupita, but OMG what a HORRIBLE look they gave her in "The Odyssey"… So I mixed some Minoan clothing with versions of Greek dresses from pop culture to create a new look for her.
Psyche design!!
Big fan of this specific genre of Apollo statue
Serve honestly.
statues from Cyrene, Miletus, Naples and Delphi respectively
I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I drew it
What really ticks me off when talking about ai is when people are like "it's unavoidable" or "you'll have to learn to use it someday" or "its going to be part of the future" like no it's plenty avoidable actually if you have a spine stronger than a dandelion. You simply say "no" and continue to use your own goddamn brain.
