I honestly think MOST of the women ive met who were diagnosed with BPD were diagnosed as teens. Which is just malpractice
Yeah I was diagnosed at 15. Even the DSM says not to diagnose under age 18. Emotional volatility, risk taking, unstable sense of identity, etc. are par for the course of adolescence and we empathize and allow it in boys yet we diagnose it as serious personality disorders in girls. “Girls receive more mental health attention” is actually “boys’ anger is understood as a natural part of adolescence and girls’ anger is understood as a disease”.
It’s also the diagnosis they try to give when they perceive a female patient as: immature, attention seeking, annoying, faking it, lying, being dramatic, generally unlikeable, unreasonably angry, anxious, unfunny etc. None of which are psychiatric disorders.
And there’s no medication that helps, so really you’re just slapped with “bad woman disease” and sent home with sedatives. Literally tale as old as time.
