Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.

Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.

tolkien himself literally discusses this in one of his most well-known essays (called On Fairy Stories). what that essay is about more largely is what makes/doesn't make a fairy story, and within, he talks about how fairy-stories aren't only for kids:

"Fairy-stories have in the modern lettered world been relegated to the “nursery,” as shabby old-fashioned furniture is relegated to the play-room, primarily because the adults do not want it, and do not mind if it is misused. It is not the choice of the children which decides this. Children as a class—except in a common lack of experience they are not one—neither like fairy-stories more, nor understand them better than adults do; and no more than they like many other things. They are young and growing, and normally have keen appetites, so the fairy-stories as a rule go down well enough. But in fact only some children, and some adults, have any special taste for them; and when they have it, it is not exclusive, nor even necessarily dominant." Source

in short it's very funny to me that this guy was like 'the hobbit is not a children's book!' when it's like. the hobbit by jrr tolkien? who discussed how adults give only certain types of material to kids because of their belief of what kids want and not the kids' actual opinions? sir please
