Developer Adam R. Rose talks about historic, iconic and stylish 70 Pine Street. Offering studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments for rent, 70 Pine will be the new standard of living in New York City’s Financial District. "70 Pine Street is a building that substantively has amazing elements to benefit its residents that are truly unique. People can now live in this 1932 Art Deco tower that was built originally as an office building and happens to just lends itself perfectly to conversion to residential. The zoning from the nineteen thirties required buildings to set back as they got taller and taller reaching towards the sky. It wasn't very useful as an office building but it's a terrific thing for an apartment building. Over 150 apartments at 70 Pine Street benefit from outdoor space. Our terraces which start around the 10th floor have surprisingly open views: city views on the lower floor, great views on the mid floor and, what I would call, helicopter views from the top floors of all the boroughs of the city, the Harbor, Jersey and North up in to Connecticut and upstate New York. They are really spectacular. We have brought together a rooftop restaurant, the La Palestra health club, the Q&A hotel in one location to benefit each other and to benefit our residents. And we think people are going to really, really prize the opportunity to live here."

70 Pine tower was constructed during the New York skyscraper race, which accounts for its gothic-like spire-topped appearance, a popular architectural style at that time. When completed it was the third tallest building in the world, after the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. It was the last skyscraper to be built in Lower Manhattan prior to World War II, and was the tallest building in Lower Manhattan until the 1970s when the World Trade Center was completed. Upon the 9/11 Attacks, it regained for some years the status of the tallest downtown building. As of 2015, it is the eighth tallest in New York City, the 20th tallest in the United States, and the 103rd tallest building in the world.
