Plan for internet, intranet and extranet publishing sites in SharePoint Server 2013
The first step is the determination of the SharePoint architecture. The user needs to decide about the kinds of sites that are required and their way of distribution. An intranet site for a company requires the prior determination of the number of internal sites that each division or group requires. Similarly, setting up an internet business site requires the user to first determine the number of public facing sites for each region or brand.
The content of the site is also important. For example, the questions such as whether the site will only have Pages Library content in case of an intranet knowledge based site or if a business site displaying products and descriptions will also have Pages Library content.
The language of the content in the site must also be determined. The question often arises whether the content should be provided in more than one language or not. This is decided by carefully considering the business requirements at present and in the future.
SharePoint Foundation 2013 server employs two methods to provide published content to the users named author in place and cross site publishing. Author in place can be used for multilingual content. Cross site publishing can be used if the user wants to publish the content in more than one site or in Pages Library content only.
