“You a foul ass nigga, bruh,” Hasani said to Jacob while me and my friends held him back. “You lucky I can’t get to you right now.”
“Bro, chill,” Jacob pleaded. “People up in here recordin’ and shit! Chill!”
Hasani tried to break away from us and I held onto him tighter while telling him, “Baby, stop. Please!”
“Let me go! I’ma kill this nigga!”
“You gonna kill me, bruh? We’re like brothers and now you’re gonna kill me? That’s fucked up.”
“Nah, what you did was fucked up! You fuckin’ trash, my nigga. Do you hear me? I hate yo ass!”
The look in Jacob’s eyes destroyed my heart as he stared at me. He shook his head and told me, “This is why I didn’t want you to tell him, Jody.”
Hasani snapped and shouted, “Don’t fuckin’ talk to him! Don’t you say another word to Jody, nigga!”
Jacob ignored his warning and said, “Jody, get your man.”
When he said that, Hasani went crazy and broke free from me and my friends. He jumped over the table and started throwing punches before any of us could even get over to him and Jacob. All I could think about in that moment was that I never wanted it to end up this way. I was only trying to be honest with my boyfriend because we’d worked our way back to a sense of normalcy after a long time of emotional pain. How did it all go so wrong?
That Thursday night started out as a typical Thursday night. I met up with my friends Ricky and Chase and then the three of us went to the apartment my boyfriend Hasani shared with his best friend, Jacob. None of us had Friday classes that semester just like during the previous fall semester, so we always hung out at Hasani and Jacob’s apartment off-campus before going out to eat somewhere and then to a bar for drinks and games.
“Hey boo,” Hasani said to me after opening the door for me and my friends down in the building lobby. We stepped inside and immediately, he began hugging and kissing me.
“Get a room you two,” said Ricky with a laugh.
Hasani shot a bird at him and said, “Shut up,” before kissing me again. I kissed him back and played around with him.
