Updates to Tumblr’s Community Guidelines

Today we announced some big updates to our Community Guidelines and what kind of content is permitted on Tumblr. Adult content will no longer be allowed here. While we do not judge anyone for their desire to post, engage with, or view this stuff, it is time for us to change our relationship with it.

We expect you may have some questions on how this will affect you, and we’re here to make sure those questions get answered.

When does the new policy take effect?

Our new Community Guidelines will go into effect on December 17, 2018.

Newly uploaded content flagged as adult will no longer be allowed on Tumblr. We’ll also begin flagging and removing existing adult content with the ultimate goal of removing as much of it as we can.

What is considered adult content?

Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.

What is still permitted?

Examples of exceptions that are still permitted are exposed female-presenting nipples in connection with breastfeeding, birth or after-birth moments, and health-related situations, such as post-mastectomy or gender confirmation surgery. Written content such as erotica, nudity related to political or newsworthy speech, and nudity found in art, such as sculptures and illustrations, are also stuff that can be freely posted on Tumblr.

I honestly cannot understand how someone can have accesses to more information than any other point in history, and not even do the bare minimum research on gun laws. Extreme tight gun laws are not effective in reducing the overall violent crime rates, and fully automatic firearms are prohibited.

No, regardless I still doubt you knew fully automatic firearms were prohibited, and you used the ignorant ambiguous term “automatic” to change the preface of your argument. You want to ban the most common functionality of firearms, when they’re overwhelmingly used to protect good honest people. According to the CDC there is somewhere between 500,000-3,000,000 firearms used in self-defense annually. Now you may go “well the CDC is clearly biased!” To which I’d reply they aren’t, but sure let’s just use a second set of figures to better fit your ignorant perception. According to the Violence Policy Center there are about 68,000 firearms used in self defense annually. Now that may not seem like a lot, but when one considers the fact that there are 6 times less unjustifiable homicides (based off the VPC data) the ends whole hardheartedly justify the means. Although, I am curious as to what you think the functionality of a semi-automatic firearm is.

Here we go again with the ambiguous terminology, disregard the fact that Illinois has “extremely strict gun laws” in contrast to that of Alaska, but there’ve been 2,600+ shootings in Chicago to date. (not to mention there have been 71 of those shootings this past week) When looking at the effects of gun control in foreign nations we see countries who experience mass shootings they result in a significantly higher fatality rate, than we experience here in the US. It should be noted that I am using the legally defined term as defined by congress back in 2013 on what a mass shooting is. We can also look at their overall violent crime rates because it would be pointless to say gun control is effective if other weapons are being used or people are being raped and assaulted more often.

We can thank the UK for not only being EU’s most violent nation, also famous for slogan “bin the knife, save a life” (gotta admit I think it’s a little catchy)

and has seen sharp rising in their rapes and assault related crimes.

Australia’s gun laws have also been an admitted failure, when comparing pre-96 to post-96 crime rates we see that after their crime rates increased by nearly 10 they’re back at the same rate it was pre-1996. There’s also the fact that their gun laws don’t stop people from owning highly illegal firearms by their laws.

However, here in the United States without your call for extreme gun control we have seen not only a constant, but steady decline in our overall violent crime rates since 1990. Even after the 1994 assault weapons ban expired in 2004 we still to this day have a declining crime rate including violent crimes.
