The Phantom of the Opera was enchanting. I'm not much for opera, but this show had me bewitched until the curtains fell for the final time. Intricate costumes, dance that flowed as freely and flawlessly as the music did - chilling, heart-wrenching and powerful, and beautifully crafted sets that shifted briskly, not a second lost. The acting was mesmerizing, the performers' passion projecting across the sold-out audience. Special effects were used just often enough, though perhaps not to their fullest potential. It wasn't that there weren't enough, but a few more here and there would've made the show pop even more. Nevertheless, the masterful acting and singing made up for what the special effects lacked. One thing is for certain: unlike many other tourist to-dos, Broadway isn't overrated in the least. I now shudder to even think of leaving the city without seeing it, and what would've happened if we hadn't turned up at the tickets booth ten minutes before the show, asking for three tickets to a usually sold-out play. Where do I even start? Today was nothing short of magical. A day of inspiration and aspirations. Call it a banquet, a feast for the soul. Three courses, shiny silverware and all, pianist in the corner. Here, let me take your coat. It must’ve been a long journey here from New Jersey. Today’s menu has been carefully crafted, just for you - the hors d'oeuvres: an information session and tour of the Columbia University. A bus tour called The Ride through Downtown Manhattan as your entrée, and we’ll top it off with a Broadway show for dessert. What a wild day. We sprinted through moving traffic in Manhattan to catch the 6:30 bus, the traffic police screaming at us, and just barely made it, swinging onto the bus a minute before it set off for DC. I found an empty seat next to an Asian girl reading Harry Potter, but being the idiot I am, I didn't say a single word to her the entire time. It's also worth mentioning that by the time we got to Washington, I had been reduced to a malnourished, shriveled-up corpse ☺️ But I managed to listen to Lorde's new album in its entirety, so that made up for it. #wandering #summer17 #washingtondc http://ift.tt/2tuLZjG
