[SWANS - WHERE DOES A BODY END ?]
MIlla Jovovich by Juergen Teller for Strenesse fw97
Olivier Theyskens SS 2001
Invitations designed in the shape of a sailing ship set the tone of the collection. Images centered around the sea and yachts. Lighting represented the sea - stormy and raging, deep and quiet, and in its abundance. The narrow runway of about 50 centimeters was covered with black shells from the south seas. The collection started with a mustard leather design. Leather for sailing, lifejackets, and imagery of sails. The audience was thrilled by the huge crinoline covered by rope.
A Greek style mini-dress was also worth mention. Hairstyles covered with decor resembling seaweed were also spectacular. Makeup used violet eyeshadow and flaunted red cheeks. Lipstick was silver accented bordeaux. Everything was engaging and everyone left enjoying their brief “stay at sea”.
[DAVID BOWIE - SAVIOUR MACHINE]
[DAVID BOWIE--WIDTH OF A CIRCLE (Live, 1973)]
I vividly remember waking up the morning of Jan 11th 2016--The Next Day-- and my phone being full of messages from friends and family--some close to me and others I hadn't heard from in years. They were all cryptic. "Oh my god." "Thinking of you." "You ok ?". And I knew. I checked the news and saw. And in a way, I haven't recovered. As someone very dear to me said, it was like learning your favorite teacher had died--they maybe weren't in your life day-to-day, but the effect they had on your very core was profound. The past year I've been thinking a lot about the nature of art--of the overwhelming generosity it takes to bare your soul just in case another person out there can relate to it and understand themselves, and the world around them, just a little bit better. That's what David was to me, and I'm eternally indebted.
[happy Bowie birthday. My favorite holiday, still.]
