You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just…mellow.

Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize…

…they've never actually told you anything about themselves.

Adding onto this: characters who are so deeply repressed that they don't even realize they're not fine, or at the very least not supposed to be fine. Characters who do tell you about a situation they're in that should be bad, but instantly laugh it off saying they can handle it (spoiler: they can, in fact, not handle it). Characters who laugh with you and listen to all your woes and much later you learn that they were actually going through something at least equally bad at the time, but they wave it off and don't want to speak of it. Characters whose main coping mechanism seems to be "don't think about it" on endless loop.

Basically, the fictional embodiment of the "this is fine" dog.

• Scorpio Moon •

-always watching, taking it all in..

-knows most of the answers to questions before they ask

-dry humor (which I personally love)

-passionate about whatever they put their mind to, no half or 50% effort (they do have to be emotionally bonded to the person or hobbie/task, if not, they're redirecting their energy elsewhere)

-prone to becoming hyperfocused on one specific thing (most times to their detriment)

-mommy issues (but they don't talk about them, and hate when you assume you know the relationship dynamic, it's a very unique relationship dynamic and overtime it can grow to be stronger or more distant)

-deep conversations if they trust you, which is hard to gain. Trust is earned through sacrifice most times.. even if something small, they need to see you prove your loyalty and trust)

-the one I would call to bury a body (jokes pls)

-doesn't like to make assumptions, uses their earned knowledge on human behavior, they will study those around them like a case study, only to come to their own conclusions after seeing all the "facts". They can be extremely patient in this act too... they want to know you from the inside out

-sensitive to shifts in the mood, but again.. most times they will keep this information inside and watch, study you to see why it shifted

• Sagittarius moon •

-life of the party (unless heavy earth placements, bedtime comes sooner than later especially with age)

-will be the one you can call to come help you get your car stuck out of the mud, or go biking in the backwoods.. just down for anything and personally I love that about them

-can be too concerned about keeping the good times rolling, doesn't always directly express emotions.. but it's more like a dark joke, everything is turned into a joke, you just need to decipher it most times. And if it's not turned into a joke, they will laugh after they tell you horrible news. Imo a defense mechanism

-may lack boundaries when it comes to those they connect with emotionally, this isn't always a bad thing, they're coming from a place of exploration... like "how far can you and I go?" However sometimes I find they are the most capable of staying in bad situations, always trying to see the good in everyone

-can start a campfire with their bare hands, or atleast minimal tools, very attracted to fire.. find them near a fire all year round if its possible for them to do so

-can sometimes be sneakier than Scorpio moons.. when they set their eye on something in the distance that they want, they go about it most times in silence (this does depend on which house the moon is in)

-big lovers, big emotions, and larger than life dreams

-facial expressions for DAYS! I love how expressive they are.. warm smiles

-definitely rebellious in their younger years

-doesn't like to be tied down by family, but can adapt (most often moves away from mother)

• Capricorn moon •

- lives by the work hard, play harder motto

-always learns the hard way, doesn't like to take advice, rather learn through experience

-tells you like it is when you ask for relationship advice

-too many responsibilities when they were young, even if they had a good solid foundation growing up and were provided for, the expectations put on them were very heavy

-its never "how are you feeling", more "do you need anything?" and I love them for it

-happiest when they're putting themselves into something they can build on long-term, when they don't have that they can spiral FAST

-these people can drink.. and when I say drink, they're the ones to clear a 12-pack and act like they're still sober (from my experience lol)

-in my experience is much of a mommy's girl/boy as cancer moons are (esp when they're young.. they always want to take care of their mom)

-very in tune with the weather, I notice they most times have allergies or can feel a storm coming from how their body reacts

-big provider energy, but they can feel like they can't accept help from others, and end up toughing out the storm by themselves.. this is often from early childhood experiences that breed the need for extreme independence in some form

• Aquarius moon •

-they are on their own energetic wavelengths together, all aqua moons come here for a very specific reason that aligns with what society needs to be shifted/changed.. no matter how big or small the reputation they have they make an impact on those around them. Most are well-known in their local community

-big futures/big dreamers.. these people can see themselves 10 years down the road when you ask them where they'll be, they might not have a CLUE how to get there (depending on the rest of the chart) but they'll always have a sense of direction intuitively on how to get there

-can become way too overanalyzing of their own feelings and that of others.. over thinkers. They can have a hard time reading emotional encounters in the moment.. they need some time to brew with it, read into it, and for them it's easy to sit with these memories of emotion because aqua is a fixed sign

-there is an inner hermit that exists within all of them, do NOT disturb them during their hermit hours

-doesn't give much energy out to people who do them wrong, or atleast out loud to others. They love to share stories about other people, but aren't the first ones to bring up drama when it happens

-their mom is supportive of their endeavors and always wishes the best for them.. I've never met an aqua moon that didn't have a supportive mom (again this does depend on the whole chart, esp 12H moons)

-naturally creative, most I know are very passionate about creative projects and can easily bury themselves in one for long periods of time

-most times they hate having to cancel plans, not because they dont want to go, it's because they hate feeling like they let someone down

-if they invite you to their house, they will make sure you feel at home

-big social circles, few close friends that understand them

-loves to share their viewpoints, but can have bad memories lol they tend to "misplace" memories, you never know what will trigger an old forgotten memory to come up only to dissappear again

-very smart, loves YouTube videos, emotional comfort documentaries

• Pisces Moon •

-can become their mothers "mother" in a sense, their mom might rely on them a lot

-doesnt mind crying infront of others, and for me I admire this... let it out!! There's NO shame in it! (Just don't do it to manipulate others obv)

-vivid imagination, lucid dreamers, I have a 12H moon and often find myself bonding over dream stories with them

-doesn't mind disappearing until they feel up to being social, just don't forget to check in on them, they love compassion

-i often see when they share their emotions and unfortunate stories with others that it causes them to open up too, they love to hold emotional space for people especially those closest

-can often feel the "blame" from others even if it's not theirs, they can feel like they're always doing something wrong or someone is upset and it is because of them, which is most often not the case

-will decorate with a lot of pastels or a wide variety of colors in their home

-the best mentors in their life are women

-journals, journals, journals... let me into your mind palace

-soft poets, or amateur artists, this moon sign expresses a lot of emotion through art. Art helps them put a finger on how they're feeling. They channel divine messages and emotions through a craft, and even if it's not their own art they are connecting with, they will resonate with it and pass a message along to others that helps them understand something they need to at the time

-either early bedtime or no bedtime at all, creature of the night or morning star.. there's no in between with them

-being alone helps them process the most. Especially the shower lol they can process days worth of emotions in the shower I'm convinced

The characteristic Mental Activity of the Enneagram Types

I made this as a reply somewhere but then I realized it should prolly be its own post. This is partially based on what Chapters of “The Dynamic enneagram” Tom Cordon has made available as e books but I could sort of puzzle it together for the other types based on all other subjective experience reports I’ve witnessed.

Since outer traits are influenced by culture & circumstances & subject to the imprecisions of objective self assessment & the understanding & reliability of descriptions, I’d say the one way to know for sure is the inner mental activity; this you could know even if you were a brain in a vat, and everything else follows from this anyway.

1: Constantly comparing what they encounter with an inner image of what it should/ could be. often a static image

My observation is that mbti Si users tend to say they “always notice when something is out of place” whereas Ni users say they “immediately see how things could be improved”

Also have this thing of resisting “bad” impulses by turning them into their opposite

2: Hyper people-focussed. Experience it as ‘sending’ themselves over to the other person, thinking of them intensely etc. & thus picking up what that other person feels. Touchy feely, lots of eye contact.

(they do this by copying the other person’s body language, talking speed etc., though they might not consciously notice this - but this presumably does help to run a “simulation” of the other person’s state)

3: Typical activity is either a) paying close attention to what people seem to want, expect , how theyre reacting to you etc., always sensing this & being able to match it if desired b) focussing on an image and the acting that way. Being like your favorite celebrity, someone you admire or just some ideal you think is worthwhile.

4: Intuitive association chains - one thought sparks another, which might spark a memory, a feeling, a symbol etc. can dwell a lot on the past, inner fantasies or be impacted by things in the environment, all of which tends to build up emotional charge. ‘Synesthetic’/ ‘kaleodoscopic’, cross-context quality. Tend to immediately notice the differences between themselves and others when entering a new situation.

5: Intellectualized/ abstract view of everything. Constant mental sorting of things into categories, contrasting distinctions, looking for underlying principles, building mental models of stuff… in any case, forming conclusions/observations about what is happening as it happens.

Very little intuitive “people sense” or ability to learn it by copying.

6: A lot of replayed mental worst case scenarios. Can be visual (in that case the threat is often big & towering) but in any case it’s intense kind of like it’s already true/ already happening: This will go wrong, that will go wrong and then because of it that will happen… etc.

Some are just very cautious ppl, others can have a tendency to throw themselves into high-pressure situations because the worried thoughts stop to a degree if you snap into crisis mode.

Are also good at picking up allegiances, hidden intentions, inconsistencies etc.

7: Mental activity filled with a) anticipation (picturing good scenarios that might happen, fun things you might do, exciting possibilities etc.) - opposite of 6 kind of, the racing thoughts are good stuff, though it can get frantic/manic, and 7w6 and 6w7 would have a mix. b) reframing - when something bad happens, you’d reflexibly try to see/ find the good in it or at least be ok with it

8: Sort of feel their own existence by feeling their limits - always looking to make an impact, cause a reaction, have a tangible effect. Sort of always feels they need to amp up the vitality/energy/ actively make things happen. Does not expect to get things easily from others, (or at least wants to make sure to get them) so they’d be looking to have a 'strategy’ or 'leverage’ so they do not get screwed over.

9: No such dominant pattern, rather completely open to/ taken in by outside impressions, absorbed in what your conversation partner is saying, what youre currently experiencing or even what you’re imagining etc. hence poor shielding towards & high sensitivity to negativity & conflict . Since one’s own responses aren’t being tracked they take a moment to access. - thinking is a lot more kinesthetic & fuzzy than precise and verbal. Strongly feel physical comfort or lack thereof, might have a big imagination as well.

You’ll know you hit the right one when you think “wait, other people don’t do this?”

How tough are the enneagram types?

#1 Six

They might not feel or look that resilient in day to day life (more like being in a constant state of AAA) but they are built for crisis situations always in a bit of a low key state of fight or flight. That’s not so pleasant maybe but they have this ability to snap into crisis mode under pressure. They’re very preseverant & when they have a cause that’s worth it to them they can endure anything.

When they get out of their own way or are in a healthy place they can actually be the single toughest, most perseverant type. It’s not for nothing that their holy idea is strenght.

Probably most war heroes or ppl who did heroic shit in extreme crisis.

#2 One

They just don’t know when to quit. They already beat themselves up so much that there’s not so much the world can heap on top of that, plus they can have this inner sense of certainty that, while annoying, can make them confident & keep them going forward even if all the world is against them. These peeps will keep up following their ideals even if they get death threats.

Healthier examples get even tougher by learning to chill & not waste time on unimportant trivia. They may look less imposing but actually get chiller.

#3 Eight

Another obvious tough cookie/ good under pressure one. Instead of stopping to lament or complain they will just directly move into action & strategize or bulldoze their way out of any pinch.

However, the toughness is sometimes accomplished by cutting off physical or emotional pain receptors & tuning out/ not feeling their own hurt & then needing yet more action to actually feel alive etc. so this can have a self-destructive quality, leading to overwork, drinking too much, picking fights, tragic badboy appeal etc.

This is one type that may get less tough acting when they get more enlightened because they start to know their limits more, though you could say that dealing with one’s gooey center takes a different kind of strenght.

#4 Two

You might not guess it from their friendly emotional outside but these are also among the types with very good crisis responses who seem built for harsh circumstances. Many charity workers, volunteers, hospice workers etc. doing thankless dangerous or taxing jobs.

How do they do it? Probably because they feel they have to be tough to help others.

However what makes them less tough than the first 3 on this list is that they have 1 big achilles heel which is relationship problems. They’re the most relationally oriented type so if theyre in a sucky relationship or lose important bonds they can get disoriented or even hopeless.

#5 Three

Very dynamic, adaptable and problem solving oriented, they have a go getter attitude & just do, do, do, & if it doesnt work their reaction is usually to add more effort… Certainly on the tougher side.

However they can outwardly look tougher than they really are, on the inside they might not feel so confident as they act, sometimes they keep so busy precisely to keep their feelings as bay but since theyre a heart type the feels are never that far beneath, which can sometimes show in being thin-skinned, desperate to win or just flat out overworking oneself into burnout/ breakdown.

Deep down they just want headpats and mamas approval.

Of course for healthier examples being more in touch with their feels can provide more of a sense of purpose & they grow more patient.

#6 Nine

Maybe not war hero material, but usually way tougher than they feel they are.

When they get more ‘enlightened’ they can unlock a lot more energy & even leadership skills.

That said, they are sensitive, have a lot of feelings & can fall into a resigned 'why bother’ nihilism, a state in which they are sorta prone to self-sabotage.

But what puts them this far up is that they can be so stubborn & preseverant & keep plowing on even when things are tough & don’t seem so hopeful.

#7 Seven

Now we get to the not so tough types.

Ppl might think that 7s are tough & resilient because they act positive & confident but actually that’s cause they often feel they can’t show bad feelings to others. In truth they’re actually very sensitive & can’t deal well with pain & hardship, hence why they try to escape it.

Hug a seven today!

Lest we get to down on them tho, it should be said that they can be resourceful, good improvisers & often can just wing it when others wouldn’t try. However, a positive attitude isn’t always enough to master a situation. & obviously working on themselves can help to get more patient & frustration tolerant & able to postpone gratification.

#8 Four

Let’s be honest, no one was expecting these too high on the list, they’ve already got hangups with action by default so if you add extra difficulties they can easily end up not so functional, they’re sort of wired to carry their suffering & fixate on the negative. And maybe wistfully long for a different world/time where performance isn’t such a worshipped holy cow.

However, 4s are not without some strengths of their own, which can include self-knowledge, tolerance of & patience for the negative side of things & not wasting energy fighting against their feelings. They got 99 problems but being uncreative, conformist or unaware of their special points isn’t one…

On the higher side they can become less chaotic, more sure of themselves & form stronger bonds

#9 Five

Like 7 this one can get mistaken for way tougher than they actually are. Ppl might perceive them as unfazed or calm in a crisis etc. but that’s not necessarily what’s going on. If 6s are always lowkey in fight or flight mode, 5s have the same relationship with the freeze reaction, so they might look/act more subdued if stressed or uncomfortable.

5w4 in particular can be thrown out of whack for days or weeks after 1 emotionally heated chaotic situation where they felt out of control. Or maybe the w6s just block it out better, which comes with its own difficulties. If this were your life, you’d be tempted to become a hermit, too.

Supposedly if you meditate enough or whatever you can become more confident & a willingess to do what’s needed. If any of you find out how how pls let me know

However, just like 4s, 5s do have some unique, less obvious strenghts, such as being able to “trust the process” & their ideas, not immediately abandoning someting when it doesn’t work out right away. They’re not actionistic & not too swayed by praise, criticism or a lack of responses.

Nailing a Pinterest recipe on the first try. Gardenias in the spring time. Small lace trim on a sensible dress. A well-aged leather briefcase passed down through generations.

Enneagram 2: The smell of cinnamon buns on a fall morning. Grandmother’s hugs. Grandpa showing you how to fix your bike. Volunteering for charities at Christmas time. Getting a handmade card in the mail. Surprise texts that let you know a friend was thinking about you. Cashmere. Tinkling laughter at a cocktail party. Knowing you’re safe. Anger according to Nine

It can be devastating when anger gets away from a 9. The dark and unflattering side of 9 is that anger informs everything they do, it’s just buried so deep down that they have to learn how to be angry like a normal person. At the root of the stillness they seek is that emotion: anger at chaos. The fact that chaos exists is deeply offensive, but since the fight against such an impersonal force is over before it begins, resignation becomes the coping mechanism that keeps anger locked away.

It’s conscious enough that there’s an awareness of giving up. It’s not a secret to themselves. It’s not easygoingness for the sake of easygoingness, but a dream deferred (or worse, a complete loss of self), and deep inside is a well of anger that has to be acknowledged about that. The more anger is felt at the cosmic scale of things, the less room there is for giving much of a shit about the smaller stuff, right? But when something is being asked of the 9, and they don’t have access to that primordial energy in order to say no like they really want to, the gap between that desire to say no and the perceived ability to is felt each time.

Growth becomes impossible unless the anger can be acknowledged for what it is, because only then can reality be forgiven for breaking what is supposed to be universal love into many pieces, forcing chaos and obligation. Recognizing this anger for what it is becomes as upsetting to a 9 as it is important for growth.
