my reaction when I redownloaded the game the same day season 6 came out (not knowing it), being spawned in the Homestad (I stopped playing before the start of the first season) and reading about characters we've already met (I only knew Cassadee)

now I'm catching up on the whole story and I'm finishing “thorns of devotion”. 😅

I already play “tower of memory”, not asking myself too many questions,then when I finished it (before the epilogue) I started the other stories.

Thoughts on Orion

Based on what we’ve seen so far, I just wanted to get his out of my system regarding this character.

Please debate me if I said anything wrong or misunderstood anything. I’m trying hard to grasp his character, buts he’s like a soap bar to me, haha.

This is spoiler territory. Kindly beware if you read any further.

Orion

The hidden quest made me consider whether Orion is entirely evil with very little humanity. Especially with how he treats Kazim and leaves him alive as a form of torture, not mentioning that the Flesh Binding Curse already inflicts extreme repercussions (distortion of the mind and body).

And then, I’m torn with how much he loves his little sister. Especially how he saved her at the end, and his affinity tales explaining that he helps Peggy hide from her instructors.

But then I remembered when Gwyneth interrupted Orion’s scheme to “protect” the nobles, and she defeated the giant spider instead.

Orion wanted to send her to Ashvale county, where the war between Bantus and Savannah is currently underway. As Hendrik said, it was a death sentence.

Orion wanted to send a sixteen year old to Ashvale county because she came into the spotlight with Merlin and changed his plan…. While fully knowing that he was sending her to meet her death on the forefront.

One could argue that he did it based off fear, but you could see the look in his eyes when he said, “You… did well.” And Merlin did that little eyebrow raise in that cutscene.

He already branded her a problem. Masked it with friendliness. And his first option was that she needs to be out his way. Figuratively speaking, he presented a snake (her death) in the form of a gift (her promotion).

Orion seems to have learned a lot from Cyran. Since in the hidden quest, Cyran even said to him to just kill Kazim explaining it was the easiest solution to that problem. And it seems that he applied it here.

To add, it looks like to me that he also did that to try to break apart Gwyneth’s and Hendrik’s relationship so that she can have zero support and can get out of his way.

Isolate her from her father, then use her ambition as a weapon.

Then back to Peggy, did Orion ever try to defend his sister after she tried pulling out Excalibur?

All the rumors must’ve reached his ears but he turned a blind eye to save himself—to ensure the throne.

Orion may genuinely love Peggy. I don’t think that love is fake. But I’m not convinced that his love is stronger than his fear. He will protect Peggy when he can do so without destroying the image, position, and plans he’s built around himself.

The real test of his character is whether he'd be willing to sacrifice those things for her.

And for Kazim. Until Orion can come to terms with him and treat him right. Though… that would be the biggest feat since he’s done more than just harm him.

Until we see that, I don't think we can call him good—or completely evil.

He's somewhere in between: a person capable of genuine love who is also capable of sacrificing other people when fear (of abandonment, shame, etc.) convinces him that he has no other choice.

And he ran away in the midst of it all.

There is no excuse for him to do what he does.

He had a choice. And actions have consequences.

Orion is morally gray, but being morally gray doesn't mean his actions are morally equal.

No one on planet earth is black or white, but each person stands on a different shade of grey.

‼️ Small SPOILER of the first part of the epilogue of Crown of Ashes

Regarding the symbolism of the serpent:

The snake can represent temptation and Cyran have tempts both Gervan and Orion by showing them the solution to their problems. And at the same time the snake can be seen as a symbol of healing and Cyran has ""healed"" both. And in some cases envy itself is associated with the snake

That book with the snake on the cover, who knows what secrets it hides since it's closed by a chain. Most likely it's just a game design object.

I associate Cyran,Gervan and Orion with the phrase “the end justifies the means”

when we find “monkey magic” (I think it's an easter egg) in the office of arcane affairs, Merlin says that court mages should have free psychological help. I agree.

But I think their previous boss benefited a little from having stressed employees, so they didn't have the energy to uncover his illicit dealings. Then he also invented the surveillance system, to worry less from that point of view.

I believe that if the king or queen had ordered Cyran to put in a psychologist, he wouldn't have gone (even though he would have needed it badly). Too proud and he would have said something like “only the weak need it”.

Analysing Eryndor’s Comment On Cyran

This caught my eye. What illusion shattered? Eryndor, what are you referring to?

I thought Cyran just wanted to be better due to a superiority complex; and when he doesn’t, he feels inferior. Thus, we have him so desperate to surpass Merlin, but it seems to stem deeper with those feelings.

Here is my take on it.

So, what Eryndor is saying here is that Cyran spent his whole life or a part of it feeling inferior to, overshadowed by, or defined by Merlin when he couldn’t be superior. He believed that Merlin was better, more important, and more powerful than him. When that belief (“the illusion”) was finally proven false or broken, Cyran was left with intense anger and resentment (“pure hatred”).

You might be thinking, what does Eryndor mean? But this ties into what Cyran said in his final showdown.

He had a great vision of Merlin, being all great and powerful, but it shattered when Merlin sacrificed himself to save Esperia. The belief he had about Merlin collapsed. He realized Merlin wasn’t as spectacular as his illusion regarded him; and that Merlin’s sacrifice and genius were based on a “false belief” he personally believed was inconvenient.

He calls it a waste. A waste of potential. And in turn, after losing that belief, he didn’t feel relief or acceptance that Merlin wasn’t what he believed or was gone. Though that standard he had was wrong—mind you!—he felt anger, bitterness, and resentment instead.

And thus he is called Envy. A feeling you get when someone has “a painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage.” (Miriam-Webster)

So Eryndor’s words suggest that Cyran who has carried envy, insecurity, admiration, or resentment (one, some, or all these feelings at any given point in life) for years and when the thing—Merlin—holding those emotions together disappeared, those buried negative feelings became overwhelming.

Which made him who he is today.

And that’s his fault. Because he made that shadow bigger than ever it needed to be. Merlin never had anything against him, yet even held him to such high regards! He made up that illusion rather than understanding the person he envied and admired personally, letting his feelings get in the way.

But it makes you wonder… why is Cyran so invested this much? Obsession or poorly placed care?

Digimon crossover?

I didn't expect that. I generally know what they are, but I've never watched the anime or played their game.I didn't grow up with these kinds of pocket monsters.😅

I personally have zero hype. But I'll take a look to get to know them better before the event starts. So I can appreciate it better.

They are nice, but I won't spend too many gems on them. Maybe for the dinosaur that I find very cute.

Chippy and Hammie, I miss you so much.

The mythical equipment of mages and warriors are quite interesting.

I don't know how canon these objects are.

But next season I want to know this Quaedam or at least hear them mentioned in some stories.

And Annih? I know that in AFK Arena he is the god of death and Dura's brother. But in AFK Journey this thing was rewritten. Now he is a Hypogean full of negative emotions and that I can't wait to meet (sorry Merlin).I like the design of his weapons.

In all this it makes me laugh that they found "the eye of the Hypogean", at random, in a lightbearer market. No one noticed the evil aura of the object, they thought it was obsidian.😆
