Gonne be reviving this boi!
I have an RP tracker now and it makes it TOTES easier to keep track of all my threads and prioratize them on a per blog basis. So I’m gonna be bringing this boi to life once I organize the tracker properly.
Give this a like if you would like to plot something with Ivory in the future and we can discuss somethings.
I also need to finish my bio/background/about for this blog too.
If you are a follower, supporter, or a believer of Q/an/o/n
GET THE FUCK OFF MY BLOG!!!
You are not welcome here. If you agree with them and their views, you are not welcome here.
My stance on this is FIRM!! Get the hell away from me and DNI with me.
songxfthestars:
“I’ll do what I know how to do.”
He wouldn’t have called himself an expert in the field. But he was close enough, through intense study, and training. There was so much he could do for people who were in dire need of medical attention. He could heal their lungs, so they could hopefully breathe easier. That was what he was expecting the most. If Ivory’s world was anything like the other Silver he’d known, it had poor air quality. He was going to have to scope it out when he got there. He wasn’t afraid of the danger.
What did it matter if he lost his life? He didn’t really have anyone who would care about losing him.
“Its been years since I’ve seen a power like that. It’s a gift that I hope you take proper care of.”
He didn’t know what it took to perform psychokinesis, but he imagined it took a lot of mental work. He didn’t have the power himself, it wasn’t something he’d ever been able to do. Though he could form shapes out of Chaos Energy, that was something he’d been taught, eight years ago now. It had no practical use, but it certainly made the little kids cheer when they saw it.
“Mephiles? I dated one of them once. But he wasn’t evil, and held no ill intent for anyone.”
That had been so many years ago. And even now, he didn’t know why he left him. He was a good guy, deep down, even if he didn’t understand his own power. But he’d come to understand that as a whole, those alternates weren’t nice people. Not that it’d stop him from fighting against him. Even though he was much weaker in power, he would have given his life to save the world. Almost did once.
“There’s nothing quite like a warm bath after a long day. The heat naturally eases the tension in a person’s muscles. And the water does a good job of relieving tension in the back. Do you know how to wash that patch of fur on your chest? Like, with something that will actually clean it properly?”
“I care for it as well as I can, given the unfavorable conditions of my home. I would not have my power fail my people when they need it most.” It did indeed require a strong mental connection, one to his innermost core. His power, much like Chaos, was enriched by the emotions of the heart. That was why he tried to keep himself as optimistic and true to himself as possible. Many would pay for the consequences of his actions should he deviate from his lifelong sentence of keeping his head held high, no matter how dark the days ahead.
When the name fell from Rays lips with a note of familiarity, Ivory turned his golden orbs to face the squirrel, his ears both pressing to his head in displeasure. “You know of Mephiles? Then you know of his manipulative and dark ways. I am assuming date to mean something unsavory. Nothing positive can come from someone such as he.” Distaste was bitter on his tongue. “He must have draped the wool over your eyes. A wolf through and through. I could never see Mephiles or Shadow being anything than what they are. Monsters.” Ivory sank back down into the water, his fur bristled and quills at end, an obvious and physical sign that the subject unsettled him. “You speak of him showing no ill intent? He is but a snake, poised for striking the moment one’s guard is lowered. Shadow is his very namesake. The shadow that follows the devil himself, meting out his ‘deliverance’ upon the world through physical assault and the most depraved of tortures. I have never met two men...two ‘Gods’ as they deem themselves...more evil or vile.”
The distraction of the bath away from the unpleasant matters was more than welcome, the snowy male’s hues flicking toward the squirrel for a brief moment in contemplation before they lowered to rest on the fluff that sprouted from his chest and around his neck in unruly, tangled swirls. “I would assume one just scrubs it?” To which he began carding his fingers through the patch, working free a few tangles, then ruffling the tresses rather roughly beneath the water. Some debris dislodged from the mess that was his chest fluff to float across the bath. Bits of sand, straw similar to that of wheat straw, though capable of growing in their harsh climate. It only sprouted a grey-washed green for a few weeks before it dried and hardened. They used it for bedding more often than not considering it produced no edible grain, only spiked seed pods, so to find it amongst his fur and quills was of little surprise. Burrs were slower to disentangle, especially from his chest fur. They stuck like Velcro to anything soft and refused to break free without careful measures.
“We don’t give much thought to our appearance. We have no time for it when we must spend it keeping watch for dangers and doing our best to tend to what little crops we can grow. The elders spin stories of the past. Clothes beyond our wildest imaginations, dust and gloss that women painted on their eyes, lips and cheeks, a dye strong enough to stain fur permanently for looks alone. The clothes you wear now are strange to my eyes. Vibrant, like this world. We wear mostly scavenged goods from the collapsing cities, or the furs of the ferals that we hunt for food. I have even crafted some armor from the carapace of monsters slain and leather fashioned from skins dried in the forges. That is about as extravagant as our clothing gets.”
songxfthestars:
“I have a lot of experience working with children. I did some pediatric work when I was younger, at an internship.”
That was years ago now. But it had been a paid internship, and he’d hoarded all that money towards the construction of his house. It had taken years upon years of saving to have it built, but it was worth it now that he had a nice, spacious house. Perfect for a family. A family he didn’t have. He was alone in a big house, and that was his life. Did he want a family someday? Secretly, yes. But he’d never let anyone know that. He was supposed to be a devastatingly beautiful body for the cute guys that lived in town.
They would surely abandon him if he tried to be something else.
“You don’t always have to smile. I understand how hard things can be. But I’ll always cherish seeing those beautiful golden eyes.”
He wasn’t going to make the same mistake he’d made before. He was going to appreciate his… was he a friend now? Could he really use that term? Ray wasn’t entirely sure, so he’d hold off on it for now. But the idea was special. When the tub had filled to an appropriate height, he was amused by Ivory’s alarm at the concept.
“That’s pretty simple.”
With a turn of the knob, the water stopped.
“Now all you have to do is get in, and wash yourself. There’s nothing better than feeling clean.”
“I doubt any of the elders back home have the knowledge and experience you do when concerning health and overall well being. Lots of information was lost to time, consumed by the darkness and cold that inhabits our world. The children would especially benefit from your council, should you be willing to impart it.” When told that he didn’t always need to wear his smile, h shook his head in the negative, turning a pained gaze to the water again.
“I wouldn’t be without it. Even should things feel unbearable or impossible, should things feel as if we will never overcome them, I would never lose my smile. The people need it far more than I do. It instills hope, for a future that many believe is already lost. When I was born, all had lost their smiles, faces worn with the wrinkles of down turned expressions. Faces weary from the years already spent battling an evil that far superseded mortal strength. I don’t remember my parents much though. Just fleeting glimpses. The war stole them from me, like many others.”
Ivory’s palm began to glow a soft cyan, a bubble of water lifting from the bath to be held aloft, trapped within his power. “When this gift manifested, it was the first time I had witnessed one of the elders smile. I was blessed with something the others were not. A power capable of standing against our foes. It took years to master it. I became the defense of our group, and the beacon of light amidst dark days. So...I can never go without my smile. I wear it like a badge of honor.” But he also wore it as armor. A deflection to deviate others from digging too deeply into his own misgivings and wilting hope. The smile rarely faltered and only left completely in moments of solitude.
The shape of the cyan glow amassed into that of a small, open funnel, allowing water to pour from it gently back into the bath below. “I would not see my people lose what little hope they still have. They hold on by threads. I would see them freed from beneath Mephiles and Shadow’s oppression. I would see them smile because they are happy and free of worries. Not wondering when their next meal will come, or if it will be the heralds of doom themselves.” It was by no means an easy feat wearing this smile, as much a burden as the weight that already pinned his shoulders to the earth. Inhaling deeply, and exhaling out the sudden weight, Ivory grinned. The compliment to his eyes was odd, catching the protector off guard. He blinked at the squirrel in obvious confusion, cheeks bleeding to a soft red. “But my eyes are the same hue as your fur. What that you would compliment them, and not your own sleek appearance? No, your eyes are of far more worth. A bright and shimmering blue. I peeked the sky a few times between the clouds of water upon my arrival here. Your eyes are very reminiscent. A blue like the skies of old, only spoken of in passing back home.”
The smile he wore now was true to purpose, yet gave way to curious looks when the squirrel twisted the knob and the faucet ceased it’s pouring of water. When encouraged to climb in, Ivory gave a nod and seated himself on the edge of the tub to remove his practically useless boots, soles worn and the fastenings just barely holding the shredded material together. Once he was free of them, he gingerly toed his way into the water, standing and flexing his toes before he carefully seated himself. His fur and quills jutted out and lids lowered to half mast, a euphoria like he’d never experienced before enveloping him.
“W-whoa... This is...like the warm embrace of a blanket.” He rubbed his upper arms as he sank down into the comfortable heat, lips just beneath it’s surface. The hedgehog lightly blew bubbles to the surface, marveling at how amazing it felt. He lifted his chin just high enough so that h could speak above the water. “This could lull one to sleep. It soothes the muscles and relieves old aches. I wish we could do this back home. Such a luxurious comfort.”
songxfthestars:
It sounded like he had his work cut out for him.
But it would be much more exciting than what he was doing now. Not to mention, a worthy cause. What could be better than saving lives? That was the very point of him becoming a medical technician. He would likely have to use his power to do it, but he certainly could. He was ready for the challenge. Ready to keep people alive. Ready to bring them supplies that only another world could possibly give. He had way more than he needed for himself. It was like giving to a charity, but actually seeing your results rather than just hoping it did some good.
“I’ve seen some pretty crazy things in my day. I’m not afraid of a barren world. And I’m not afraid to fight for peoples’ lives, regardless of my own comfort. You’ll see. You won’t find any shortage of food in my house, that’s for sure. Food costs money in this world. But I have plenty of that.”
He lowers the steel plug, and soon, the water begins to rise. The scent of lavender wafted throughout the room. The water was a pleasant warmth.. Perfect for someone to take a bath in. Ray took baths regularly. Had to keep himself looking flawless, especially now that there was a cute guy in his house. Sure, the whole save the world thing was important, but so was the fact that Ivory was a cute guy. Too skinny for his ordinary tastes, but not a bad looker.
“This planet is very much alive, and I do what I can to preserve that.”
He felt bad for the guy. No one deserved to grow up in a world of nothing. Then again, even though the world was beautiful, he’d still grown up in what was essentially a world of nothing. A dark room, with only enough food and water to keep himself alive. Those were dark days, but he’d come out of it a better person than he was before.
“Your smile is thanks enough for me.”
When was the last time he’d said such a thing?
“Just wait until you experience all the different types of food there are. Then you’ll really be surprised. Water is a good thing to drink. Very good for the skin. But sometimes a person wants a little sweet, and that’s when I personally turn to fruit juice. You’ll find out when you’re done washing.”
“I do not wish to instill more horrors upon you. But, it is your decision and I will not sway it beyond giving you warnings. We...do need the help. Direly so. Anything you could give would be of great service to my people. A new face will be a welcome sight among us. The children especially. It’s isn’t often they get to meet someone new, let alone someone not of our world. I think they would be happy to hear stories of this planet. Though, the colors you may have to bring yourself to explain. As I mentioned, where we come from is bleak. No grass grows. The most green we see is what scarce food we manage to grow from the rare areas of untainted soil in the lower regions of the mountains untouched by taint.”
Ivory watched as the water pooled in the tub, filling the basin rapidly with it’s unfamiliar warmth, his fingers trailing over it’s surface, expression one of mystified joy. When Ray mentioned his smile, it faltered for a moment, then reappeared as bright as before, hues of gold meeting with those of aqua. “Then I will always make sure to smile while in your presence. You deserve more than mere expression for the help you wish to give us in the coming future...but we have little to offer by ways of payment. So, if a smile is what you wish, I shall wear it.” And faking it hardly entered his mind when in regards to Ray. He gave him genuine reason to smile. Bestowed knowledge upon him and gave him experiences that were new and enlightening. Ivory never would have thought to heat water for cleaning, but given where he came from, their fur would freeze soon after leaving the bath. And coming by that much water just to clean up felt like such a waste when they could use it for stew or other such necessities.
“We have cabbage back home. When boiled in water with certain meats and potatoes, it can be rather sweet. Unfortunately we lack fruits, so making a juice from their contents is impossible for us. I look forward to trying the unusual staples of this land, and taking back samples as well as much needed rations for everyone else. Especially the kids.” When the tub neared to full, Ivory pulled his hand free and shot a look of alarm to the squirrel, his smile fading. “Um...H-how do you make it stop?”
Oh my! It’s nothing like potatoes! You’ll be able to meet a sweet gal for some real sweets! If that is what you would like?
“Are sweets another vegetable of some sort? Where I come from, we can only grow those that don’t need much light. Potatoes mostly. Maybe some heads of cabbage. Together, when boiled, they make the tastiest of meals.” No, sweets were an entirely foreign concept to the snowy hedgehog, but not something he would refuse to learn about. He was eager to learn more of these foreign foods and the wonders of these vibrant worlds, glowing with life.
Shall I have you meet someone who loves to bake?
“Would they be this ‘Deserts’ person that we were speaking of before? Yes, I would like to meet them. Very much. But...” And a head gave a curious tilt. “...to bake? That...pertains to food, does it not? On the rare chance that we have potatoes, we can bake them over an open fire to make them soft enough for consumption. Will this baker be warming potatoes?” There weren’t many areas where they could grow the crop, but it was the hardiest one that they had. One that could survive some amounts of cold and frost.
songxfthestars:
“If you had metal, you could construct pipes that lead from the mountain to wherever you reside. But it’s easier said than done. I don’t know anything about plumbing, so I can’t help you there.”
It was a different depiction than the world he had seen once before. That world had been of fire, not ice. Had been ravaged by a fire demon, rather than anything cold. People couldn’t get water for the same reason, however. It was poisoned by ash in the other world he’d seen. But it appeared to be poisoned by something else in this guy’s world. He’d have to find out what it was, and reverse it.
Somehow.
“You first. I have way more than enough for you to take care of yourself, and then take some back to your home world. I’m what this world calls wealthy, I’ve spent years hoarding money. Now that I have so much of it, I donate it to charities, usually. Charities I know will use the money to make the world a better place.”
He did get a little wet by what Silver did, but strangely, it didn’t bother him. There was something special about this hedgehog who named himself Ivory.
“I’m not afraid of danger. Of course I’ll come with you. After you’ve taken care of yourself.”
Through the door, and into a cool room. The sound of rain could be heard on the roof, but it was a gentle sound. A sound Ray had fallen asleep to on more than one occasion. He lead the hedgehog up some stairs, and into a room with a large tub.
“If you’re impressed by water, watch this.”
He turns the knob, and fresh, clean water began pouring from the pipe. While the tub is filling, he lights a lavender candle. Might as well make it relaxing for someone who had the weight of the world on their shoulders. He was amused, just as he had been all those years ago by a certain someone else.
“Just don’t drink it. It’s bath water, it’s for getting clean. There’ll be plenty of fresh water to drink when you get out.”
“We only have a few areas where forges can have proper ventilation to safely work in. Producing enough pipes wouldn’t be easy. And...I haven’t the faintest idea how to get water from one end to the other without wasting it.” So they were both at a loss as to how plumbing functioned. But perhaps someone from his zone was knowledgeable on the matter.
Ivory was moved by Ray’s passion to help in the future of their cause, the snowy hedgehog offering the squirrel a nod and clasping his fingers gratefully. “Your help will be welcome. I’m sure the elders will be pleased that one knowledgeable in the healing arts will be joining our ranks. I won’t have you stay with us overlong though. It wears on the soul staying in my world for too long. I wouldn’t see you wilt under lack of sun or without the water your world freely gives. Sometimes, a positive outlook is all that keeps them...keeps us going most days.” There was a tiredness that haunted his vibrant eyes, just beneath the surface, a monster he battled with constantly. But not a fight he would soon give in to. His surrender to that battle would be met with the fall of his people after all, something he would not stand for.
The house was indeed a bit chilly, Ivory shivering only the slightest bit after walking beneath the threshold. “Is food as plentiful here as the water? I would assume so. Water brings life. Such vibrancy here. Everything feels alive. The earth, the ground, the air, the sky. All of it. Where I live it feels as if all but time itself has come to a standstill, breath held in chest, waiting for the inevitable. I would see as many people saved before then.” The final battle. One he knew he had little hopes of winning, but would chance nonetheless. His life for the lives of all those he sought to protect seemed a more than fair bargain in the end.
Had Ray not told him to hold himself when the water began to flow, he would have indeed bent double to start drinking from it, tongue parched from long days spent without the needed substance, instead passing it on to those younger and in more need of it than himself. But he could be patient for a while longer at the promise of water to come. It felt such a waste to see it spilled so, only to drain down into one of those pipes that the squirrel had mentioned previously. “It is so clear. I can see almost completely through it. We must boil our water numerous times to get it to this transparency. And even then, it tends to still run murky.” His fingers dipped beneath the faucet to feel the liquid slide over and between his fingers, his smile brimming with overflowing giddiness. “This feels like a dream. That my mind would come up with such begs to differ though.” The pleasant scent of lavender permeating the room, the sound of water running free as it warmed to the touch beneath his very fingers. Ivory found himself marveling at the way it soothed the chill beneath his fur, steamed the air around them and fogged the mirrors.
“I cannot begin to thank you enough for all of this. To think that there is actual water, running through my fingers right now. My people would think me mad to speak of such things.”
Do you like deserts?
“Deserts?”
“I can’t say I’ve met them. But I’m sure I would come to like them, given some time. As long as they’re nice, I don’t see why I wouldn’t like them.” The poor soul has no idea what deserts are.
songxfthestars:
“About seventy percent of the entire planet is covered in water. It’s not a difficult thing to find here.”
But that told him it must have been in the other’s world. Which he’d expected. He’d traveled with another Silver so many years ago, and his world had little water as well. Now it was a chance for him to make up for the mistakes he’d made with him. It wasn’t the same Silver, but it was his chance to actually do some good for someone, rather than just causing strife, and mischief. He had been so young back then, he didn’t really know any better. But now was his chance. And he was going to take it, at any cost.
“…We can get water directly from pipes to a water source. There’s little need to collect the rain, as it naturally fills rivers and lakes. As a matter of fact, I do save rainwater. But not for drinking. I save it to water my roses, when the weather is dry. Fresh rainwater is the best thing to water a plant with, or so I’ve been told. The roses do not seem to complain about it.”
Goodness, he was so excited. It brought back memories. Memories he had to shove away, to keep things a clean slate with this guy.
“We’re going to my house, so we can properly clean you, feed you, and give you fresh water to start off with. It sounds like something someone like you could really use.”
He was pretty cute. So optimistic. He worked towards a goal, just as Ray did. He worked hard to make sure everyone would be safe. He may have gone about it in different ways, but in a sense, their goals were the same. Keep people safe, and healthy. That was all he wanted, and that appeared to be all Ivory wanted in the same regard. It even got Ray to smile a little bit, which was a pretty uncommon thing.
“As a healer, it is my fight. No matter who is in danger, it’s up to me to protect them. I fight for the people here, in this town. And I can fight for the people where you are from. Nothing will stop me from saving all the lives I possibly can save. If that means working hard, so be it. I’m not afraid to work to keep the world a better place, no matter whose world it is.”
His house came into view now, it really wasn’t a long walk from the rose garden. And the door was unlocked, as he had planned on coming back soon anyway. Not that he really worried about people trying to break in, he’d quicker give them some of his immense fortune. When they reach the porch, Ray closes his umbrella.
“You might get a little cold, it’s cooler in the house than it is outside. But first things first, I’ll draw you a warm bath. That ought to help relax you while simultaneously helping you get cleaner than you are now.”
“There is water on my planet. But...it’s poisoned. And the water along the shores of the land are near impossible to encroach upon. We know food lingers beneath it’s surface, but the winds that rage there make hunting for fish a pipe dream. The sand stings the eyes and the chill that comes from the waves is enough to freeze a man to his core.” And it wouldn’t matter for much longer anyhow. The ocean was becoming far too polluted with Mephiles toxins to risk the meat they might pull from it’s depths. “For water, we climb the mountains where the dark clouds cannot form. The air is too thin for the the ichor to form into thick drops. The mountains are the last places we can go for clean water, but even there it runs low. We dig deep wells to dredge up what little we can, only drinking what is necessary for a days survival. It leaves the people weak, but fit enough to live another to see another day.” He could only hope to keep his peoples spirits as high as his own. He couldn’t afford to falter in his optimism, lest they fall in his wake. It wasn’t easy. But h had little other choice.
Ivory’s ears were standing at attention, his focus fully on the squirrel as he explained how his water came to be. “Pipes? Maybe we could construct some back home, in the mountains. A pipe long enough to ferry water back down to the lower lands where we live.” The cold of the mountains was as dangerous as the frigid air from the oceans. The natural animals seemed to vanish from existence little by little, facing their own extinction events one at a time. Soon, there would be nothing left to hunt for food, considering the animals had little to eat themselves, aside from one another.
When told he would be bathed, fed, and given water, the hedgehog faltered, brows drawn together in conflicted concern. “I...don’t require much. But I would prefer my people have access to that food and water than myself. Would you mind if I saved it for them?” Ray’s insistence that he help didn’t fall on deaf ears, Ivory looking him over inquisitively. “You would offer to aid us? Knowing that we live in less than favorable conditions? I...I don’t wish to burden those of other timelines or worlds. I have learned the hard way that fooling too much with timelines can lead to far worse outcomes than one originally comes from. Where there was once fire and lava, there is now a cold so deep it could rob a man of life overnight if not properly prepared for it... We lose a lot of people to the cold, or to the toxic air should they wander into a miasmic wasteland without the required gear to breathe it’s air.” Masks that thy fashioned out of filtering material and goggles forged in remnants of the past. Glass was repurposed, metal could be welded given a hot enough forge. They weren’t completely helpless. But nothing aside from a hazmat suit could protect someones skin from he burns of the toxic, acidic rain that spilled forth. At first it only proved a mild discomfort, but given time to remain on flesh, welts would form, and then blisters. And with little water to spare, cleaning away such acid was far from easy. Especially considering how viscous it was, almost like that of tar.
“My world is not without it’s dangers. But...were you to come, I would see to it that you received the highest of welcomes and my personal protection.” The house caused a small hop to appear in Ivory’s step, his quills nearly bouncing with his exuberance. “I am familiar with dilapidated skyscrapers. Houses such as this have long since abandoned their foundations. Even the skyscrapers are mere shadows of their former glory, falling apart and crumbling, far too unsafe to live within. This house looks as if it has just been built~.” Once upon the porch, Ivory shook himself free of some of the water, though frowned when he realized he’d more than likely littered the droplets upon his new friend. “Ah...s-sorry. I just...it felt natural to do. Apologies.” The mention of cold was met with a raised brow and the slight upturn of a lip. “I assure you, a little cold is of no hindrance to me. I will be fine.”
songxfthestars:
“Sounds like things are rough back home.”
He’d been there before. Not this one’s, but others. And he’d seen the destruction for himself. It was a nightmarish world these kind came from. Something that reminded him to appreciate nature, because it may not have truly been around forever. It probably wouldn’t be going anywhere in his lifetime, but he still took it as a lesson to respect it, and do his best to preserve it. He planted trees, grew flowers, all sorts of things in that regard. And maybe he’d teach Ivory to do the same.
It didn’t seem like he’d be met with much argument.
“It’s just rainwater. In this world, everything is as it should be. So water falls from the sky at times, called rain. It is as fresh as water gets around here. Plants love it. Times like now are when you stick your potted plants outside so they get some of that fresh water. Why don’t you come with me?”
His home wasn’t a far walk from the roses. He could get this hedgehog shelter, and a proper meal. No one deserved to be caught out in the rain.
“You don’t have to worry about stepping on grass. Grass is a resilient plant. Being crushed doesn’t harm it at all, it pops right back up when you step off of it. Much different than say, a rose. A rose will be destroyed if you step on it, so watch your feet. You have to be careful when touching them, also. Rose bushes have thorns, and it could really hurt you to be scratched by one.”
Ray takes a step. And when he’s sure Ivory will follow him, he begins walking. He isn’t fast, as to make sure the umbrella continues to cover them both. Ivory didn’t seem to like getting wet anymore than he himself did. It was true, it would make a person heavier. He’d have to help him dry off once they got home.
“The world can be a beautiful place. It’s people who make the world ugly.”
Only some people, though. There were also a lot of good people in the world, he met a lot of them in his profession. People who wanted to help save lives from danger, no matter what the situation. People who fought for justice, and fairness. People who lived life, and wanted to preserve it. Ray was one of those people. He’d learned to be one of those people years ago.
“I can’t say I know what it’s like to come from a world of disaster. But I know what it looks like. You’re not the first white hedgehog I have met. But if you take me to your place, there is a lot of good to be done. I’m studying to become a doctor.”
“So...water is plentiful here? If it falls from the skies, it must be.” His hand was now held out from beneath the umbrella in excited recognition, the hedgehog half tempted to step out beneath the drops again. “How could I not have guessed that this is what the elders speak of in times since passed. I thought them to be stories or folklore.” Amber eyes were wide in wonderment, turning to face the squirrel with a beaming grin. “Do you collect the water for later use? Store it somewhere safe where it cannot be contaminated? Where I come from, it does not pour from the sky as such. If it did, we would have barrels all over for safe keeping and future perseverance.”
The silvery hedgehog did frown though when asked to follow the squirrel. He peered at the roses longingly for a moment before his smile was back and he nodded his head enthusiastically. “Where will we be going?” His hands clasped behind his back as he bent at the waist, listening to Ray attentively, hues open and striving for knowledge. “I will make sure not to step on the roses then. They are bright in color and easy to spot. So avoiding them shouldn’t be too hard.”
The futuristic hedgehog seemed far from weighed down by his plight back home. No, he seemed more weighed down by the water in his fur than having his spirits dampened from the task back home. It was a day to day life. Dark and dreary for most, but it was just a normal day for him. Fighting, surviving. To b in a world such as this, so open and free, it was uplifting. Gave him more to strive toward. A goal to accomplish. He would see his world grow and flourish again once they purged the toxins from it’s soil. Mephiles and Shadow’s defeat would no doubt clear the skies of clouds and part forth the curtains for the warmth of the sun once again. And then life would follow.
“People make the world beautiful too. I would have little to fight for if there were no one to defend. My world may lay barren, but the people are the reason I remain there. Why I remain strong. And who knows, maybe someday...my world could look like this again.” At the mention of his profession in the medical field, Ivory perked considerably. “We have a few that are decent in the arts of healing, but no where near enough to deal with the amount of injured we receive on the daily. Be it to natural causes, or a monster attack. But I would not take you from your world to fight a battle not your own. Where I come from...it leaves a bitter taste on your tongue. I would see my people freed of it and brought to a place such as this. It is a slow process, transcending time and space, and only a few can travel with me at a time. I seek the mythical stones of power that can be used to grant boons to those that need them. Even should I never defeat the true foes of my land, at least I can see my people lead a better life elsewhere.”

“Was that necessary?”
Rather than focus on the person in front of him, he immediately retrieves the umbrella to save his precious hair from being ruined in the humidity.
“Don’t throw it this time. It’s a tool for staying dry in the rain. Can’t you tell by the large barrier?”
Of course, his umbrella seconded as a spear, but that didn’t matter right now. It didn’t look like he wanted to harm him. He seemed more freaked out than anything else, and if his story was anything like Ray’s old friend, he knew exactly why. Something bad must have happened to him, though he didn’t know to what extent. Just that white hedgehogs tended to come from a world of destruction. Just like his old friend, who he’d left behind years ago to pursue a career in the medical field.
“I’m usually called Ray. Whether or not that’s the right word remains to be seen, but I’ve been going by it since I was three years old. Somewhere around that time. That thing, is called an umbrella, and if you haven’t noticed, it’s keeping me dry. If you want to get wet that’s your thing, but I’d rather not let my gorgeous hair get ruined by this weather.”
There was no malice in his voice. Rather, curiosity that reflected his nature in his tone. He didn’t know enough about this guy to make any assumptions, so he wasn’t going to.
“I was just watching the roses.”
After speaking, he points towards the bushes. Vibrant red roses were in bloom, and if you got nearby, their sweet scent would overtake you. It was his favorite flower. He leads the other closer to it. Carefully. No sudden movements, as not to incite being thrown into the fifth dimension.
“The real question is, who are you? This area is my property. When someone turns up, I’d like to know who they are. People are free to be in this natural habitat. But I don’t want anyone trampling my roses.”
“You held it over me. Yes is was necessary.” A subtle dusting of red spread over his muzzle when the squirrel returned and explained the use of the device, the hedgehog feeling foolish for believing it to be a brandished weapon of some sort. Ivory eyed the item when it was opened up again, realizing belatedly that the squirrel was indeed correct. It shielded someone from this constant drizzle of liquid.
When his name was given, the whitish quilled male nodded in understanding, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head. “I won’t throw it again. And um... Apologies for deflecting your barrier against this...” To which eyes lifted skyward and ears fell back once more, that look of confusion brief on his features. “I am unfamiliar with this liquid. It doesn’t harm flesh, so I know that this place isn’t the same as home. And it’s thin. Clear. Not sticky and black.” Like tar. Mephiles had tainted the majority of the water in their world, so rain was next to nonexistent. The procured their drinking sources from the high mountains, digging deep into the earth with the help of his telekinesis. Mephiles acidic rain was unable to reach those altitudes, and Ivory had to make frequent trips to replenish their water supply.
The term was tested on his tongue, rolled over and mouthed silently before he finally practiced saying it. “Umburahlla. An item to dispel the falling liquid. Perhaps we could create these back home for our people and the refugees.” His golden eyes seemed to flicker to life at the idea of making the lives of his people that much easier, of making their existence just a little less taxing in a world trying to kill them. “No, I’m not fond of being so...” To which he emphasized his words by flicking some water from his nude fingers. “...covered in this substance. But I have experienced far worse. My fur and quills feel heavy with it.” But not as heavy as the ichor that rained back home.
And then another new word. One that caused an ear to flick in curiosity until Ray led him to the source. The very things he had been admiring before his impromptu startling. “They’re pretty. Vibrant with colors that are very rare back home. And the scent is far more pleasant as well.” When asked who he himself was, he allowed his eyes to rest on the squirrel once more, a small smile lighting his features. Though it was quickly replaced with a look of mortification at the implication that he would trample on such delicate beauties. “I would never! These ‘roses’ are far too pretty to crush underfoot! I don’t even like stepping on the tufts of green that litter this planet! But here, they’re everywhere. Unless I float continuously, I can’t keep myself from crushing them. I will admit, I don’t know where it is safe to step, and what I should avoid crushing.” But Ray stood atop the ‘tufts of green’ just fine and seemed to show no remorse for walking through it. “Everything here is alive. The air is so clean, one doesn’t choke on it when they inhale too deeply. I would like for my people to live in a place such as this.”
He stepped back from the roses and that warming smile was back, the hedgehog tilting his head to one side in an almost puppy-like fashion.
“My name’s Ivory. Though some people just call me ‘Ivy’ for short. Especially the kids.” He was still wary and cautious, but it seemed he was warming up relatively quickly to the squirrel. He was very much similar to his people back home. Kind, curious, and informative.

@what-future-entails wanted a starter <3
Just another summer shower.
He’s watching the roses, twirling his big star umbrella. There was something somber about the rain. Something soft. Something sweet. But he wasn’t a fan of getting wet, either. It was such a gentle rain that he wasn’t too concerned about the idea of getting soaked. No loud booms of thunder, or bright flashes of lightning. Just a gentle rain that fell from clouds that weren’t even too particularly dark.
When he hears footsteps on his property is when he looks up. Curious.
Not that it bothered him. Nature was to be enjoyed by everyone, he wasn’t bothered by passerby’s stepping on his property. He was a little surprised, however, to find the other stepping about with no form of cover at all. Wasn’t he concerned with getting wet? The idea that rain could cause sickness was a big myth, but it was true that colder temperatures weakened the immune system.
“Aren’t you cold?”
Still curious, he steps closer. Now the umbrella covers both of them.
“It’s not wise to go out in the rain with no form of protection.”
The silver hedgehog looked positively miserable. Upon arriving in this foreign land, the first thing that had greeted him was this insufferable liquid falling from the sky. At first, he had been petrified, assuming it to be the toxic waste that tended to fall from the dark clouds back home, but upon not being burned when the cool liquid soaked his fur, he had been pleasantly surprised. That had been hours ago. Now he was soaked, and though rather unhappy with the way his fur and quills stuck to his body, he wasn’t quite as irritable as he had been when he’d arrived.
The cold, unusual liquid didn’t keep him in a sour mood for long. No, he was far more intrigued and interested with the many colors this world had to offer. The sensation of those soft green tresses beneath his worn boots, the rustle of leaves overhead, wind that didn’t howl as if a banshee had been unleashed upon the land? Sure, there didn’t seem to be sun here either, but with life this luscious, how could anyone complain? Ivory had never seen such things before.
So when he stumbled upon another creature capable of speaking the common tongue, he blanched nearly leaping out of his fur from where he’d been admiring some of the vibrant roses, a cyan glow practically bursting from his body in fright. His natural instinct had been to reach out for any discernible object capable of being lobbed at the new creature, but thankfully no loose objects were in the immediate vicinity, and he didn’t want to tear up any of the gorgeous greenery around him to use as a weapon.
But after listening to the words spoken to him, Ivory un-clenched his fists, the bright teal glow faded into nothingness, his quills, having been floating a moment prior, lowering to rest against his back once more. When the other creature...no, not a creature, a squirrel, stepped forward, Ivory flinched back, the glow returning and the umbrella being sent skittering into the distance, his amber eyes wide and chest heaving. He had no idea what kind of contraption it was, only that it could be used as a weapon against him. Now they were both exposed to the elements. “Who are you? And what is that...thing?” To which he pointed across the way at the very umbrella he had launched into the distance, said umbrella rocking back and forth after coming to a stop, having landed on it’s canopy. The question from earlier repeated itself in his mind, his ears laying back against his head nervously, his expression one of utmost confusion.
“I am not cold. This place is far warmer than the climate I am used to.”

atimelesslullaby:
“It is a bit terrifying, how similar our situations are.”
The idea that other worlds could be in so much trouble. Her own was just another one. She’d always imagined that such evils didn’t occur in other planes of existence, but it appeared that she was wrong. If Ivory’s world was so dark, maybe there was a way to fix it. She certainly didn’t know how, she’d never even seen the place. But it wouldn’t stop her from fighting for another cause. Even after her own world was saved, she’d fight for his. If just because someone so sweet, and kind deserved it. Deserved a nice place to live, and a future to look forward to.
“It is a prison. If I show my true self, the evil king will surely capture me. And then all hope will be lost for my country. He has eyes everywhere. Even in worlds like this. He sends shadow beasts after me, so I am always running away.”
She wanted adventure so badly when she was young. Now she had it, and it wasn’t the joy ride she’d been expecting. Not when so many precious lives were lost. Not when monsters attacked the town on a regular basis. That wasn’t the adventure she dreamed of all those years ago. She dreamed of fun, and excitement. Not fear, and risk of capture. But that was the life she lived now, she had to make the most of it.
“The same offer extends to you. I would be honored to help you fight the good fight. Do not be fooled by my appearance. I am an incredibly gifted magic user. No monster has yet to best me in a fight.”
She was surprised by how little his world seemed capable of growing. There’s a curious tilt of her head as she listens to what he has to say. A whole week since a home cooked meal? That simply would not do. She had plenty of fresh fish she’d recently caught, it would only be fair to let him join in on her good luck. Especially since he was so incredibly sweet.
“In Hyrule, there is almost always a storm blowing through the fields. The sun hasn’t truly shined in years. But there’s enough sunshine to grow some crops. And the rivers are full of fish. Hunger is not a big problem in Hyrule, not yet. But it will be if things continue as they are.”
She extends a hand.
“Come with me. I have plenty of food at my camp, I can make you a big meal, and even some extra to take home to your people. In a disguise, I normally cook for the entirety of Kakariko. I am no stranger to preparing food for large crowds, and I have plenty of supplies right now.”
“I’m not afraid of any beasts. I’ve been living in the shadows my entire life. If any of those creatures show their faces around me, I’ll put them in their place for sure!” He wouldn’t let any harm come to the princess, at least not while she was in his presence. “This evil king sounds like a problem for sure. A usurper that needed to be brought down. But if you can’t take him out without that special blade, then we’re stuck. It’s frustrating to be locked in a never ending cycle that you can’t seem to break free from. But so long as I’m around, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Ivory had never sought adventure. Ever since his birth, he had been thrust into a situation of survival. There were multiple instances where he should have passed away, and yet his spirit kept strong. Sometimes he wondered if his spirit was the only thing keeping him alive. “Wait, you can use magic!?” His amber eyes lit like a kid presented with an amazing present, ears perking eagerly atop his head. “What kind of things can you do!?” He hardly considered his own psychokinesis magical. It was just another extension of himself. Something that he had been born with.
“I don’t believe we’ve ever had a storm back home. Though I’ve heard about them. There’s so much dust in the air, water is almost as scarce as food. We usually have to dig pretty deep to find any fresh water where I’m from. And I have to admit, fish sounds pretty foreign too.” He scratched the side of his head self-consciously. “Is it another kind of vegetable?” After all, wild animals had been extinct on his planet for tens of years now. The only fish that remained were deep sea dwellers, and he and his people only visited the sea on rare occurrences. The winds that came off the water were far too cold to withstand for long and sand would pelt your face and embed in fur. Overall, everyone had agreed it was a place to avoid unless in dire need of water. Water that needed to be filtered.
When her hand was offered out to him, Ivory stepped forward, a wide smile appearing over his muzzle, his hand coming to rest within her own. “Of course. As long as I don’t leave you lacking, I won’t refuse food. I wish I could offer something in return, but...I have little more than the shoes on my feet and the wraps around my palms.” He needed to go searching for more clothes soon, his boots worn and the wraps about his hands tattered and torn. Not to mention the now bloodied bandage wrapped tightly about his injured palm. “I will be eternally grateful to you for this. Food is hard to come by, so...thank you.”
atimelesslullaby:
“Refugees? Has your world also been taken over by evil?”
That was a surprise. But she understood why he did it. Even the people in Kakariko Village tended to need supplies, which were in high demand. She usually purchased her own in different worlds, when she wasn’t in disguise, protecting her people. She couldn’t be herself in Hyrule anymore, and that stung. She’d come to accept her disguise’s form. But there was a part of her that wanted to be herself, and that was something she may not ever have gotten. The hero had been gone for seven years now.
But she held hope that he’d return.
“I envy you. It is so rare that I get the chance to be myself. I am supposed to be the princess. But as it stands now, an evil king has taken over the throne. His power cannot be measured, it is so great, and only the blade of evil’s bane can defeat him. If not for that, I would have stood against him myself. But the blade is gone now. So we have to wait for its wielder to return to us.”
No sense dwelling on what currently be fixed.
“You have such a beautiful name. Ivory. I want to do something special for you. Such a brave person, dashing off into battle like that. I am afraid I am limited in what I can do, but what if I cooked for you? When was the last time you had a home cooked meal?”
“Yes. You could say that. An evil so dark, sometimes I don’t see there ever being an end to it. But I won’t give up. I’ll find a way to fix things. To create a better world for my people. Giving up isn’t an option.” His voice gained courage ad bravado the longer he spoke, eyes shining with determination. “Food is scarce. What little we can grow isn’t very nutrient rich. But at least it’s enough to fill the kid’s stomachs and the adults won’t go to bed starving. The community is in a safe spot for now. But before long, I’ll have to move them again. There isn’t much sun in my world, the sky is blotted out with dust and ash. But we can still manage to grow a few crops.”
Not being able to be true to yourself brought a small frown to the dusty white hedgehog’s muzzle. “No matter your standing in a hierarchy, you should always be allowed to be yourself. Change can’t happen overnight though. But maybe with some small nudges, you can encourage your people to accept your true self a little at a time? It doesn’t settle well with me that people would rather you lie to their faces than merely being yourself. That...sounds like prison.” His smile was soon to return. “Well, you can always be yourself around me. I won’t judge. Unless you actively hurt others, I won’t be offended with you.” So her world was facing a situation similar to his own. A malevolent creature ruling the land, oceans, and skies, making survival damn near impossible. With his hands full at home, he couldn’t offer his services without risking their very lives. He had to be there to protect them should Mephiles decide to launch another attack. “If I can ever find a place where my people can be safe without me, I would be more than happy to help you in your quest to save your land. But if we have to wait for the wielder of the blade, it might make things difficult.”
The compliment about his name was met with a light blush, Ivory scratching his cheek sheepishly. But the moment sh mentioned a home cooked meal, his embarrassment vanished, replaced with a more enthusiastic and ecstatic expression. “Well...we cook our food, so...maybe about a week ago? We usually have beets, carrots, potatoes, or greens, like cabbage, cauliflower, or spinach. They don’t require too much sun to grow. It just takes a long time.” Much longer than on a normal planet. While those vegetables thrived in shade, they didn’t take well to the cold climate and growing them until harvest wasn’t always successful. Especially if they had to move mid-season. Those days were catastrophic to their survivability, and they sometimes lost people during the move to starvation and malnutrition. Every life lost was huge to Silver, a testament to his failure to protect his people once again. But he fought on. Each time, he kept moving, lest he lose more people. “How well does your home grow food?” He looked her over thoughtfully, scrutinizing her appearance. “You are thin, but not unhealthily so. What is your world like?” He would feel selfish taking food for just himself and not his people. Maybe he could hide it when she cooked for him? Give it to the children back home.
