Rebecca felt more like a marionette on strings, gliding along under Glenn's lead in their dance. The closest she's ever been held to another body and it was far from the romantics it should've been   ( for him;  denied ).   How easy it would've been to drift her mind away from her body, and yet she couldn't. Rebecca was carefully counting every minute, every second;   outside those very doors could be either of her friends on their way in. Outside of those doors, a new life, new innocence, was being changed   ( and she needed to make sure she could change them back ).   She wants to grip her hands into fists, beat them against his chest, but she doesn't. She doesn't.

She does, however, nearly stop dead in her tracks when she hears Glenn speak up again.

              ... I bet you can.

Now Rebecca really looks at Glenn. Wide hazel gaze is slowly but surely locked onto his;   disbelief, shock, hope. Hope!   She's not even sure she hears the rest of his words   ( doesn't want to let in the rest of his delusions ).   Whatever love he had to offer, whatever care, Rebecca knew she didn't need it   ( she hardly even wanted it, let alone from him ).   What she did need, however, was this chance he had inadvertently gifted her right out of his mouth, without even realizing it, she's sure. He was still so wistuflly swept away in his grandeur daydream   ( her nightmare )   to have seen it. But she does. Oh, oh she certainly does. She tries to keep herself from almost seeming frantic, swallowing down the urgency and doing her best to maintain her calm presence   ( in the face of everything, as she always has ).

       ❝ I can. ❞   We can be a family-   his last words echo.   Ah. Not like that.   Lashes bat and she shakes her head a little. Woe as he might've been, she has to stop their dance. For once the urge to harm him leaves her hands. She gently grasps both of his, brings them to their fronts, holds his hands between the two of them, hoping to all hope it helps emphasize her plea.   ❝ Glenn, I can help your guests.   -You saw it. I know how to reverse this virus, and I could permanently reverse the effects on your guests, too, if you helped me. ❞

Don't slip. Don't slip!  Rebecca has to remind herself of even breaths, eyes never leaving his. He could see it, couldn't he? That he could be happy? Hell, even Rebecca could've been happy if this was all it took, if this was all he granted. All she's ever wanted was to help...

       ❝ ... You asked me if I wanted love, if I wanted to be taken care of... ❞   Although her expression wavers, uncertainty mixing with something unplaceable, she doesn't look away. Her fingers fidget with his before gripping a little tighter.   ❝ All I've ever wanted was to do the right thing. Help people. If you can let me help you...   then that's all I need. THE DANCE COMES TO A HAULT AND THOUGH HE WAS A LITTLE WOUNDED SHE STILL DENIES HIM HIS WANTS, she offers him something somewhere between EQUAL and BETTER. His family, and by extension hers could gasp for a breath again and keep it.

Slowly turning to the guests, locked in crates for the benefit of everyone. Wouldn't they be so happy to see him living the life he was meant to have. He looks at each and every one of them, allowing the dark corners of the room to shift and shape into her, a ghost glued to the inside of his eyelids wherever he goes. She would be happy for him too, right ? He would have let her BITE him if there was any of her left.

Looking back, HE KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN.

❝ Their injuries are extreme, many of them won't recover and will die. ❞ He says the majority, for he did not wish to think of watching the lights shine back in their eyes only for it all to crawl back inside them, dim in them. Having been on the back and forth with accepting they were gone and thinking he could return them again. And, WELL, he's kept their corpses for years and that shows where he mind leans to.

However, he is decided in what he wants to do.

It was too innocent, the way he sounded as he asked her. Too genuine and earnest to please. If Rebecca hadn't felt numbed to her marrow, she might've laughed, but nothing comes from her but stunned, bewildered silence. The question itself was ridiculous, and the almost fearful way he wanted to ammend this upset felt even moreso.

A better question would have been   could she ever feel anything but upset with him?   could she find it in herself to forgive him?   could she ever think anything of him that wasn't vile and repulsed?   The ring wrapped around her finger   that wasn't her's   burns terribly against her flesh. The gloved fit of the dress suffocates her. The adoration, the pleading look in Glenn's eyes tears something horrible apart in her chest, racks her head with a cold and hollow rage.

Why was he so patient with her? Why was he so adamant about this hostage union? Why did he sound like he wanted to try, even knowing she wasn't, couldn't be his wife? His wife. Not his wife in vows and purpose, but his wife that he couldn't even completely bury, that he still had because no part of him could let any part of her go...

It takes a different kind of strength for Rebecca to meet his eyes, and for a long time, she lets a silence stretch between them.

       ❝ ... Do you mean it? ❞

She won't answer his question. She can't. Instead, she shifts their conversation backwards, pedaling to something she can try to answer instead.

       ❝ If I go with you.  If I marry you...   you'll let them go? Call all of this off? ❞

If he could do that. If he really, truly meant his word about this, then maybe...   maybe she could learn to not be so upset. Maybe she could learn.

ONE DAY HELL WILL CATCH UP TO HIM, BUT HE COULD MAKE THEM ALL PAY IN POUNDS OF FLESH AND A MILLION CRIES. All that will be left is the hunger, minds growing mold, turning into gritty and hatefully RED. Everything outside his venue was that of carnage. Though his guests were cut from the same cloth, he keeps them down in their caskets and with bows.

He keeps it all clean for her, FOR HER.

He would almost argue about it, try to paint the picture of what it would look like. Flying home by helicopter and the streets under them turned to seas of blood, bone and teeth. But, she is so ADAMANT about it's change. Glenn isn't so dense to not see what it's doing to her.

It felt like heavy pressure plates were just lifted off his chest, his lungs able to fully expand once again. Having been holding onto this chain for so long and what it's done to him, the IDEA of letting go was already acting like a balm to his cut hands.

It was only a balm now with the ceremony they are making now, THEIR VOWS. He almost half-expects her to make one to be to cause no harm.

❝ Would you accept me fully if I made the call right now ? ❞ It's almost like a drug, to say these things and to act on them. It's flipping everything he's ever created on it's head and letting it die for love. It was beautiful.

Sickly flesh recoiled OUT OF INSTINCT. A human to touch him, such a beastly, undead, filthy thing --- was unprecedented following his resurrection. Osmund scoured through his past memories & recalled such tenderness twice before ; That of a village maiden & royal queen. Both women inevitably found themselves dead, sacrificing their own soul or precious child to 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔻𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕝. Would Glenn risk the same damnation? Perishing in Hell once invoking vile witchcraft of demons?

The proposition of seeing more & understanding their way broke him from this brief semblance of incredulity. Lord Saddler knew the deeper this man were to dive into their Paradise, the less chance there was to escape. TO BETRAY HIM. Making the mistake of keeping prior converts upon a long lead would never be repeated again. They could not be wholly trusted. They couldn't, not unless he pried into their thoughts, their intent. They couldn't, he has been hurt too many times ---

There was a momentary hesitation, accompanied by a dubious flicker of his eyes, as if he were a predator studying prey. Deciding whether to make a meal of him or allow to scurry freely in his territory. The tendrils, as if a burrowed nest of coiled snakes, tasted the new scent that lingered in the air. Fascinated, the parasites expressed light squeaks by the warmth of his fingertips, which touched a scaled, cold-blooded creature. Tentative with, OR DENIED BY THEIR MASTER, physical communion with Glenn. THEY WOULD NOT DIG INSIDE, NOT YET. THE OUTSIDER WAS NOT READY.

TOUCH CAN BE STARTLING BUT HE ONLY MEANT THE BEST OF INTENTIONS HERE, PLEASE BE NOT WARY. These new tendrils that appear, their color and the pressure they put on his skin was nothing short of fascinating. Was this the LAS PLAGA , a part of the species the widowed man had been curious and open to know. As open and as loving as one can be to something new to his eyes, IT WAS A LOT OF CURIOSITY TOO.

❝ Well, ❞ How should he begin this ? Glenn wanted to see it all, know this rich history and bring something HOLY back home with him, as he did not want to just RUN, RUN, RUN when or if he was successful. ❝ I would like to join you in service. Sitting in the pews and listen to your teachings. ❞ That was alright, right ?

AND, WELL, THERE WAS ONE MORE THING. He was just far too curious, a wonder that was in front of him. His hand was shared with these tendrils and he most palpably felt them. Still, he had another hand that was sitting aside, moving it closer.

❝ I am still at the cemetery, in my car just ... looking. ❞ He wants to tell her not to bother, don't find him, don't see him shredded as raw as he was when he lifted her corpse's arm after the bomb. But he does not, he will not.

COME TO HIM, AS HE WILL LET YOU BECAUSE HE REALLY HATES BEING ALONE. Being isolated in his car was Hell enough, after he watched her small casket be buried and he had stood at her site until his legs stung and were stiff when he walked away. Why did he walk away ? WHY DID HE WALK AWAY SO EASILY ?

Her coffin is not his arms, her grave was not his bed but he feels guilty like a bad spouse that he couldn't lay down with her one last time.

His end of the line was just as silent, Rebecca's voice breaking the silence and it did feel warm, like a shirt fresh out of the dryer, yet once put on that warmth fades and he was left feeling the same as he did before.

❝ This isn't a very big one, there are these tall, purple trees around the lot, ❞

Dogwood trees. Describing what he sees to her, because he didn't memorize the street name yet, and he doesn't want to look into the passenger seat where the memorial card was, no, he wanted to keep looking at her. ❝ It's adjacent this little church, it's blue. ❞

It takes a lot out of him to keep even, to keep swallowing that little black coal stuck in his throat until he can get rid of it, and look as grave as the statues that decorate some of the above ground graves.

HER RING WEIGHED SO HEAVY IN HIS HAND, NO LONGER JUST SILVER BUT THE NUGGEST HARVESTED FROM DEEP CAVERNS AND HER DIAMOND SO MUCH MORE. The muscles in his left arm stretch, his shoulder breaking down from the weight of a hand from beyond the grave, unburied and peace never to be found in either of them. It hurts, as most things do these days.

He wants to see HER and he does, far too much and he knows this, as he knows nobody had sent his darling wife back to him but as Rebecca was only herself, and if felt like a mocking to him, so close to having her and yet at every turn there has been fighting, TO DESTROY THE WORLD, HIS EYE FOR THE EYE OF HUMANITY. His world was turned into an undead, and disembodied nightmare and he was sure to make everyone feel as what he had.

❝ All I want is for everyone to feel what I felt, let them know me by grief. ❞ Even as he sounds so angry, and so broken he still finds himself beckoned by her, taking his seat back at the head of the main table with her, her hand a guide to him.

❝ This is what she would have wanted, Sarah, so I ... ❞

The words dissipate, leave him as hollow as he was, as his ceremony is.

❝ All I want is to do right by her, it's the very least I could do. I don't care if it's wrong and it doesn't bring her back, she brought me you, so I must being doing something right ? ❞

THIS WAS GETTING RIDICULOUS, REALLY. How hard was it to understand even a small FRACTION of this event ? Glenn attempts to hold her still, hold her close. Perhaps if he just took a few steps back in his speech, she could see that this was not force but a gift ! He feels the bones of her shoulder, holding her upper arm to keep her from trying to fight him so, so aggressively.

❝ It is going to be better because it is going to be with me ! ❞ He stressed. Really, what could be better ? They can be Mr. and Mrs. Arias once again. He would never let her go without, anything she wanted he would make sure to get. Well, ALMOST ANYTHING, of course, this world must LEARN what it means to lose something so precious, oneself or one loved, perhaps even one hated.

❝ Just think on it, for longer than a second. Think of how much we could do together. ❞

His hands go down to her elbows, giving her a soft, small shake to show his emphasis. He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes and it hasn't for a long time. WHAT HE SEES NOW ... WAS HER. Even in her anger, this rage that Rebecca has with bared teeth and stone cold eyes, her hatred of being trapped here in a sad, terrible reenactment of what was suppose to be the happiest day of anyone's lives. It was still her.

MAKE SACRIFICES IN LIFE, SOAK ALL HIS CLOTHES IN HOLY WATER. And have all the guilty and sinners to drown in the great lakes, drowning and crying and dying to resurface as something angelic, CLENSED of their human greed. To drag themselves back to the shore where their crowns of thorns wait for them, and knees bruised from begging, praying. Suffering CAN feel religious, if you do it right.

Which was better ? To spread this gift, this love across a nation where a wave of new, devout blood swarms the shores and cover the sky in their shadows, OR to deliver this onto the few that NEED to be taught differently, their lives so filthy with materials and own righteous desires that they were chosen first, AND HAVE THE REST FOLLOW THE TRAIL OF FINDING NIRVANA IN LAS PLAGA.

Having only made recent friendships with the LORD, Glenn still felt a lot for him. All this effort, sacrifice. To have such a following and to know what is best for the heard, OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE in spreading the good news would only do good. Waiting until a hand was free and empty, reaching with his own to touch his flesh. Showing that he did not feel fear, or was repulsed like outsiders who may or may not have seen LORD SADDLER as raw as he was now.

❝ I see a group of devout, good and humble people kicked down and kept that way. There is something wonderful here, this gift you found and made your life, I want more to see and to know this. ❞

Stuck in his own delusions, this ache for he beloved he can no longer hold. But with this, he could right the wrongs of the world and bring it back to instinct, as that cannot be anything other than PURE and to have someone like THE LORD to follow.

THE MONTHS HE HAD SPENT LEARNING TO DANCE FOR HER, NO LONGER HAD GONE TO WASTE. He wishes it was for HER but she was taken from him . What he was THINKING now could be any number of things. If she had sent him an angel that looked just like her, or if Rebecca and Glenn were meant to be like this, THE UNIVERSE TRYING TO RIGHT THE WRONG HE WAS WRONGFULLY DEALT. Holding her gently for his rightful dance, gliding her across the dancing floor he made just for her, FOR HER. And he was going to have it.

Eyes look away from her, to his growling guests, kept contained in their temporary caskets. He would have liked them to see and appreciate this moment. Unable to let go of anyone or anything, what was his STAYS that way, even if they looked nothing like they did when they were living. All that he had and loved now were just collections of nothing he has been protecting. ❝ I was hoping you could help me with my guests, I haven't figured out how to exactly accomplish that, but I bet you can. ❞

He thinks that he is happy but it was all in his head, as was she, believing that Rebecca was his too, even if it too was all trapped within. He looks back down at her, his hand on her shoulder shifting to the shoulder blade on her back, A DELICATE BUTTERFLY IN AN IVORY CAGE.

❝ I don't see anything wrong here. Don't you want love ? Want me to take care of you ? ❞ A LOVE he was harboring inside, twisting and mixing into something too tough to break out of, even if in REALITY, it does not exist at all. To set THIS into stone but he cannot, she was made of tender flesh and bone.

ARIAS FAILS TO UNDERSTAND HOW THEIR WORLDS ARE SO VASTLY DIFFERENT. She cannot be happy knowing that anyone, ANYONE, who could use their free will and independence to destroy others. The pot calling the kettle black. His special day was ruined, as was his life and his heart and his mind and everything else that can go wrong with a man.

Letting a long, deep exhale he does ATTEMPT to understand, depending on his expression of a pinched brow, the bouncing of his right leg as he looks onwards to his ... GUESTS.

❝ Sometimes, Rebecca, people have to pay for what they have done in the same way they have hurt others, how I have been wronged. Whatever means necessary. ❞

And he seen that doing all of THIS was for more than just himself, to some degree, that he was doing it for HER because this is what she would have wanted. She WANTED others to know this pain, the loss of losing everyone, thing and oneself.

❝ You can't honestly believe I will just take that as you say ? You would not be happy knowing the ones who hurt you are now hurting ? ❞

Swiping his thumb and forefinger across his upper lip, the short nail of his middle finger picking at the skin of his bottom lip, DEEP IN THOUGHT, as he considered if he was even WILLING to talk this out, to see something OTHER THAN everyone has to pay the price for his grief.

His words create such an   ugly   echo, bouncing around her head until it pounds across every surface.

Rebecca would scoff-   maybe even laugh if it wasn't so horrific, wasn't so plainly true.

       ❝ All you do is see through me. ❞   A challenge. She almost says it through grit teeth, having to keep her composure. Keep from ripping his hand away from her face and crushing every bone in it   ( you can take the girl out of the force... ).   Deep breaths and his voice still rings terribly in her ears.   I hope you know.   There's a part of Rebecca that wished she didn't know! There's a part of her, a painful little part, that wished she could just become oblivious and ignorant to this haunting union. Even dissociation couldn't save her. She had to look at his eyes that wouldn't look at her, refused to   see her,   and only saw what haunted him. Looked right through her. How ironic that he would be so correct and yet his delusions keep him from the truth she has to suffer through. Of course he sees right through her...

PUSHBACK WAS NOT SOMETHING HE DID NOT ANTICIPATE, with the research he has done and the scale he used to weigh his gain and by proximity THEIRS by an oath between them, of ALL THE THINGS TO BE ASKED OF HIM, a sacrifice was something he could manage quickly. It was no trouble really to KILL, as his last profession had that as part of the optional requirements, sometimes, he had to do what needed to be done. But SACRIFICE, something that was to be done out of something better for those killed, and killers. Yet, TO KILL simply does not bring the grace that was ingrained into the ritual but adamant he could make worthy. 

There was a lot of ways to give his all, it really just depends on what was being ASKED of him, to burn them ? To carve the markings of LAS PLAGAS into their body, pulling out flesh to reveal a quivering, bleeding yet delicate work of art, all to be slain and promised they were going to a special place, that this suffering now will be hushed by paradise, with parasite.

❝ If you wish for them to be burn, then they will be burned. Just as if you would rather want drowned, or bled out. I know in this moment we are still trying to understand each other, but I promise you this when I say that I have already came prepared. ❞

Having brought someone from his own land, rather it had been FORCE or TRICKERY, that much did not matter now, but he had told them before leaving that their life was going to be used to DO SOMETHING BETTER. No more bombing weddings from him.

NOW IT HAD TO BE DONE RIGHT OF COURSE, simply lighting a fire under his lamb was quick, lazy even, and if there was something Glenn was not, it was to be lazy. From what he came prepared with, his MEDICINE he would pinch them with, to allow the searing white heat of lighting to shoot through vital veins, to burn from the inside first, like the cleansing of underbrush, but done organically instead.

The inside MUST match the out, to watch them become ready to be HOLY, writhing and screaming out their sin, tear ducts drying out and the skin becomes the firewood to the flint and steel that was now also the oxygen in the air. LIT ON FIRE FROM THE INSIDE OUT, that was the perfect way to show he knows what he was getting himself into.
