Chapter 39: Twine Polo at Mumbles Hollow

Hermione was heading out to the Yorkshire farming village of Mumbles Hollow for a rousing match of Twine Polo. Another last-minute addition to her calendar, of course, and she sourly noted how Justin always had a conflict during such events.
Twine Polo was like Muggle polo, except that the players rode enchanted sawhorses and hit balls of magical twine, which sometimes unraveled and lashed out in defense. Accidental strangling was always a risk, although officials had recorded no fatalities since 1902, according to Hermione’s hasty research. (Twine Polo scholars generally blamed that death on the poor wizard: “Mustn’t get too aggressive with the mallet, you know!”) Wizengamot bills were occasionally floated to ban Twine Polo as a public danger, but they were always defeated by the magical sport’s surprisingly powerful lobby, which included many rural union members.
