For the three light project I wanted to do something inspired by halloween, so I just dressed Hannah up all dark and vampy-like and set up fake cobwebs in the studio. I had a hot light behind the webbing, a beauty dish to the left of her and a soft box on the the right.

For this set of images, I was thinking a lot about things I feared. In doing that, I realized that there are a lot of things that I (and many of others) are terrified of losing and/or disappearing. It is when we start losing or gaining distance from something or someone that we start to remember how important it is to us. From top to bottom, the images represent losing touch with your passion, friendships/relationships, and very simply, oneself.

For my next studio assignment, I shot portraits of my boyfriend Stephen in the studio using just one light. The only light modifier I used was a snoot, though it's not my favorite of the light modifiers. I think for my subject of this shoot, the snoot worked well because it offered really high contrast portraits, which I thought accentuated who he is more than I thought a beauty dish might. I experimented with the different angles I could place it to offer different shadows on his body and face. The light flare photo was an accident, and even though you can't see most of his face, I really liked the way it illuminated his silhouette so I threw it in with the set.

These are the final six shots from my first studio photography shoot! I just did a portrait session with my friend Ayla, and I experimented with the hot lights, seeing as I was still trying to learn how to use them and what kind of effects I could get from them. Some shots were taken with two hot lights, bounced off of reflectors on either side of my subject. I did take one with a colored gel lighting the background, but decided I didn't want the gel in the entire shoot. Throughout my the process, I found that I liked having shadows in my portraits so I positioned the hot lights from one direction and reflected some light onto the other side to achieve that look.

For my studio photography class, I was assigned to find ten images that inspire me and so I resorted to Flickr, a place where I have been drawing inspiration from many photographers and artists for some time now. Had a fun date at the zoo with my boyfriend last week! I thought that picture of him and the sharks turned out really cool. Afterwards we set my camera up on a tripod and took some "selfies" together because we don't have many nice pictures together.

I'd really like to start more photo commissions and I'm hoping to shoot more portrait/couple sessions in the near future.

I also created a really short time lapse video of my morning on the beach. If I had thought that I was going to make this video as I was taking the pictures, I would have done it much nicer, I think. When I was snapping the photographs I was merely playing with the high speed continuous shooting mode and testing out just how fast my new camera worked.

But as cliche as it is, I still think the video is cool. You can see the seagull that I was stalking down the beach fly away from me hahah...

Been away in Ocean City, MD for the past few days, enjoying a short vacation with my family and my boyfriend. I brought my new camera along, (actually I don't really think it ever left my sight) but I didn't find myself entirely inspired to take pictures. I don't know if it was the crowdedness of it or the tourist aspect of the place that made it less picturesque to me... but whatever the case I didn't take very many photos. But I did find some quiet moments to shoot, such as the sunset over the quiet bay or the ocean in the early morning before families crowded the beach. 

This style is just something different I decided to play around with... I know it's been done before but the pictures didn't seem too exciting to me on their own.

Finally got my new camera today! Purchasing this was not easy, especially not with the money I make as a cashier at a grocery store. But I've been saving forever and it's finally here! I only had a chance to test it out for a few hours before I had to go to work, but I am absolutely in love with it. The pictures it takes are so clear and beautiful and I love the flip out screen so I can see myself if I'm taking self portraits or photos of myself and others using a remote.

I'm only a little bit excited about it... Okay a LOT, more than a little. 

(My cat wasn't as enthusiastic, though).

Editing is always my favorite, and it's been a while since I've taken such intricate photos that require hours and hours of editing and stitching photographs together to create something much more complex. I miss it and hope to get back to it soon. So for now, here are some of my favorite before and afters of photos I've taken in the past!

I love shooting (obviously), but editing is my favorite part of the process... It's where I get to make my photos come to life the way I imagine them in my head. A good camera can only get you so far. Most of the "professional" photographs you see take much much more than the click of a button.
