Please please please info dump about all your headcanons in your new Silver comic I want to know everything. love the new art so much
THANK YOU I LOVE YOU ANON 💛💛💛
gonna do this while half breaking down the comic so if you havent seen it read it here! (whaaaaatt? advertising???? noooooooo—)
since I suck at hinting I think it's about time we get some real insight into whatever the fuck is going on in my head when I draw my Pokémon guys
aka the world building / character lore of my trainers get revealed
starting off strong with Red and Silver
===
as most people have seen in this post, Red and Silver first meet at the Team Rocket HQ / Silph Co.
for reference, these are their current states:
Red
- 10 years old - infiltrating Team Rocket -- > hes just a little kid so hes kinda panicking and scurrying around the place
Silver
- 7 years old - has been closed off from the real world all his life. he was made for the sole reason of becoming Sakaki's successor, and was subjected to training. privately. the only people that knew of his existence were Sakaki himself, and the Executives. grunts only spoke of rumors -- > because of this (and as stated in my breakdown of the Silver post), Silver had never questioned Team Rocket's, or even his father's, morals. it was what he grew up with, after all > alarms are going through all of the base. theyre being invaded. and Silver has to escape by himself
Red is the first person Silver sees from the outside world. Silver knows that this is their intruder and immediately battles Red (as he has been trained to do)
to no surprise, however, its a complete loss. Silver only had one Zubat after all. But even while he's in a state of shock, Red cant leave the kid alone. he doesnt know who or what Silver is, but Red decides he has to get him to safety
they run together, get ambushed by other Team Rocket grunts (which Red beats easily), and as Silver follows Red he begins to realize just how wrong he was about the world
Team Rocket was supposed to be the strongest organization in the entire region, only to have a single 10 year old boy wreck the entire place. and on top of that, it was a battlefield. blood and fainted pokémon—people—everywhere.
in Silver's eyes, Team Rocket was always the hero, but seeing what was happening now, and the terrifying glint in the grunts' eyes when they lunged for a mere child, made something click within Silver
and from then on, he couldnt forgive his father, as the top of this crime syndicate
***
Silver escaping Team Rocket was a conscious choice
In the events of post RBY, Team Rocket is still active, but just... quieter. Sakaki would hardly come out of his office (and soon, he would simply leave one day)
And amidst all of the buzzing within the grunts, Silver was planning his escape
Silver
- 13 years old - he was trained harder than ever (Team Rocket was in a fragile state), but in his free time, instead of studies, he was searching for a way out -- > he had begun to map out the secret routes and tunnels the grunts used when stealing pokémon or running away from the law, and found that the perfect path was through the Tokiwa Gym
Silver left before Sakaki disappeared (and his leave was partially the reason for Sakaki's disappearance). the only pokémon he took with him was a single Zubat (the one he's carried since the beginning)
he made his escape at night, and was able to successfully reach the gym and it's secret exit. by then, the gym had already been reformed for its new Leader, but they hadnt found the hidden tunnel when remodelling.
Silver made his way to Shirogane Yama, because he knew the further he got from Kanto, the less chance he would have of Team Rocket finding him (the most logical reason in his head was to illegally cross the border to Johto)
unfortunately, hes only 13, and after sneaking past the guards, catching a Sneasel (thats way too overleveled for him at the time) and climbing up a decent amount, he passes out from exhaustion and from the sheer cold
***
Red
- 16 years old - Into his first year of staying up on the mountain
the person to find him, was actually Red. (feel familiar, much?) He was still getting used to living in the wilderness, but he found a cave that was big enough to fit one person and 6 pokémon, with an entrance small enough to block out the cold wind.
Silver cant believe his eyes when he wakes up and the first person he sees is the same person who freed him from his father's chains
in fact, Silver had been almost obsessed with Red after their encounter. he believed that Red had changed his life for the better, and that he owes Red everything (and Red was strong. he want to be strong like him)
though Red talks less now, he still makes exceptions for Silver (who doesnt know sign and isnt a telepath like Green)
Silver does tell Red how he feels like he needs to repay Red for what he did for him, to which Red is all sheepish about
their conversations shifts to something more serious when Silver talks about entering Johto. Red is skeptical at first, mostly with how a 13 year old would survive alone (Red youre literally 16 and on a fucking mountain) especially after hearing Team Rocket was still lurking in the shadows, but he agrees to help out.
Red offers Silver some of his Champion money, and even gives Silver a free ride on Charizard's back to Johto. (this fuels Silvers determination to repay Red someday even more)
and finally, before hes about to leave, Red asks for his name. at this point, he doesn't want to say Tsubaki anymore because that's the name associated with Team Rocket. after some thought, he settles on "Silver"; a homage to Shirogane Yama.
he also receives Red's old trainer gloves, as a parting gift
.."I'm Silver. I'm going to be the world's greatest Pokémon Trainer"..

High Voltage - Chapter 2 - p5
once again, silly doodles from this fic
Genuinely so obsessed with the fact that Silver is Giovanni's son.
For the first however many years of his life, he's been raised in the culture of Team Rocket. (I know he's canonically 11 at the beginning of the game, but I refuse to believe that 11 year olds are wandering the wilderness with dangerous animals hiding in every patch of grass so I elect to headcanon them as at least 15.)
He was going to join them one day. He was going to be Giovanni's successor. Hell, it's highly plausible that Ariana is his mother, so it's basically the Family Business.
And then Red, a kid not much older than him, brings it all toppling down. He cut off the head and the ekans died.
Giovanni abandons him. Silver presumably runs away from home in the aftermath, determined to become strong all on his own, in a way he believes the father he once so admired could never do.
He thinks Giovanni is weak. He decides that he will never be like Giovanni. But he was raised to believe that cruelty and fear are the best way to make your subordinates follow you, to push them to be the strongest they can be. He doesn't see the flaw in his own logic, even though he just watched it unfold right in front of him.
He puts so much of himself into Not Being Weak that he can't see that he is becoming exactly like his father. A man who rules by tyranny and fear, whose subordinates could never live up to their own potential because they were too busy cowering from him.
And then he meets the player. A 'weakling' who beats him time and time again, whose pokemon are raised with love and respect. He grinds his teeth every time because what the fuck? Why can't he win? This kid is roaming the countryside with pokemon chosen not for strength, but for companionship. Sure, they're beating gym leaders, but anyone can do that. Silver is pushing his pokemon to the absolute limit, but he can't seem to get the same results as one airheaded kid with a soft heart.
He watches them thwart Team Rocket three times. He watches them collect gym badges. He loses to them again and again.
But he makes it to the Indigo Plateau. He wipes the floor with every single trainer in Victory Road. He's the strongest person headed to the Pokemon League.
And then he challenges the player again, at the end of Victory Road.
And loses.
But, after being lectured by people like the monk in the Sprout Tower, Lance, and a dozen other 'bleeding hearts' over the course of his journey through Johto, he can no longer deny the results. He has some serious soul searching to do. He leaves to head to Kanto, to train more.
And then the next time he loses to the player in Mt Moon, he accepts that maybe his approach isn't quite right. He shifts a little on his axis.
He decides to head back to the Dragon's Den. At some point, he manages to evolve his golbat into a crobat, which can only be done through affection. The player finds him there, and he teams up with them to battle against Clair and Lance, someone he lost badly to last time.
And he and the player win. It's not the victory he wants, because he wants to be able to stand under his own power, but it does serve to show him another way.
He will train his pokemon, and work on himself. To be better than he was before.
He will never be like Giovanni.
