ONE COLUMN HOUSE a project by DiA Architecture Atudio río negro, argentina, completed 2013 _____________________________________________________________ Amsterdam-based DiA Architecture Studio has decided to incorporate a detached volume as an extension to the existing house which grounds closer to the lake shore and oriented towards the best landscape vistas, creating an internal patio between the existing house and the extension volume. the new addition establishes a clear division between the public and private areas - old and the new.

TRAPEZOID a project by Shogo Aratani Architect & Associates hyogo, japan, completed 2012 _____________________________________________________________ Japanese practice Shogo Aratani Architect & Associates has completed 'Trapezoid', a multi-storey ceramic atelier and dwelling for a young family of three in Hyogo, Japan. Situated on a sloping plot, the design works around a set of strict local building regulations to create a trapezoidal floor plan that incorporates elements of the outdoors into the interior.

CASA VALE DO LOBO a project by ARQUI + Lda faro, portugal, completed 2011 _____________________________________________________________ The Villa is situated in Vale do Lobo, a luxury golf and beach resort in Southern Portugal. The plot is an end plot surrounded by golf, greenery and a small lake. Due to the location we have purposely opted not to create a clear boundary between plot and surroundings, rather using the actual building to create the distinction between public and private spaces.

LYGIA PAPE GALLERY a project by Rizoma Arquitetura brumadinho, minas gerais, brazil, completed 2010 ___________________________________________________________________ The Gallery Lygia Pape was designed after a demand from the curatorial team at Inhotim to have a building for one specific installation by Brazilian artist Lygia Pape, Ttéia. The dimensions of the gallery were pre-established by the installation: a cube of 21x21x6m. The building should also be closed and dark, as Ttéia is a light piece. The site was relatively small if compared to the size of the requested building. It was a plateau in the slope of a hill, approached by a narrow ascending road in a forest.

ST LEON 10 a project by SAOTA bantry bay, cape town, south africa, completed 2008 ___________________________________________________________________ This home was designed for a family with 2 young sons who wanted a house which simultaneously created spaces for casual intimate family occasions or large get-togethers. The site allows for unprecedented views towards the 12 Apostle Mountains, Clifton Beaches and Robben Island. The building is cut into the slope with approximately 50% of its rear face below the natural ground level. The upper level floats over the essentially glazed South West facing first floor and this exaggerates the height of the building relative to the adjacent ground level.

The project was completed by Isern Associates and inspired by the words of Claude Monet, the impressionist painter, who stated that only the surrounding atmosphere can embellish a subject and give to it a true value. Exploring the words of Monet, the designers envisioned a space that establishes a dialogue between the interior and the exterior environment.
