MONDAY NIGHT! two new and incredible episodes of STEVEN UNIVERSE. CAN’T GO BACK and A SINGLE PALE ROSE! 7:30 and 7:45pm! DON’T MISS THEM!
Noone could understand what had happened. It started with a small crew just disappearing after being sent to Earth and escalated to the gems sent to find them also going missing. This was why a highly ranked gem such as Calcite was sent on a solo mission to discover what had happened to all of the gems and if possible retrieve them, whole or in shards. It was still light when her ship landed and cloaked near the last known location of the missing gems: Beach City.
The city looked a bit different than what cities around the country were known to look like. Tv monitors on street lamps, colored roads, playground type equipment at random locations…and the citizens…they all had bizarre make up on, and they were grinning ear to ear, being polite to each other…it’s a bizarre sight.
The small gem back against the window in a panic, the pill clutched in her hand. The humans wouldn’t be a threat to her if they weren’t armed and those faces made it even worse. Calcite had to think fast and quickly came up with an idea. She turned to face the screen she had been looking at, putting the pill in her mouth and pretending to swallow it. In actuality she shifted a small cheek pouch, stored it in it and then shifted her face into the nightmare inducing one she had seen everywhere since arriving.
“Now that’s better.” Pearl grins as the citizens put their weapons down and went back to their usual business, Pearl doing the same, reading the news for the viewing public, as if that entire scene didn’t happen at all.
Calcite waited until the humans had gone back to what they were doing before watching the screen. When she saw that the pearl was wrapping up her broadcast, she quickly interrupted her before the transmission could be put off. “Wait! I need to thank you in person for the little miracle you gave me. Where might I be able to find you to do so?” If this was the gem in charge of this shale show, getting to her would lead to the missing gem’s she had come for. It wasn’t an easy shift to hold so she would have to be fast about whatever she was going to do.
“If you have any questions or concerns, or if you think a loved one might be a downer, please come speak with me at the temple. I will be glad to discuss ways to make our community a better place.” Pearl said, showing the location of the temple on screen.
It was easy for Calcite to figure out where the temple was and she quickly ran there, not sure how long her face could hold. It was a relief when she spotted an area under the stairs and deck where she might be able to rest for a while. She quickly ducked into the small area, allowing her face to relax back to normal and pocketing the pill.
Standing at the front door of the temple's beach house like entrance were two gems, both wearing homeworld clothes. A lapis lazuli, and a Peridot. They were just, standing there...grinning metaphorical ear to metaphorical ear with the thousand yard stare in both of her eyes.
They’re becoming self-aware

"Pearl, I think we should go on a family trip." Clear Diamond said.
"Did you have anywhere in mind?" She asked.

Calcite couldn’t put her finger on it, but something was just wrong. Were there supposed to be image cubes attached to the public light fixtures? Was there supposed to be metal equipment everywhere with no use she could easily discern? She had never been to any other Earth cities and was in no position to be judging that. What she did find unsettling was the humans. The ones in the Zoo didn’t look like that at all. She hummed softly to herself, deciding to hide inside a hollow piece of equipment while further observing them to try get more clues as to what was going on.
The door to the local donut store opened and two teenage employees stepped out, wearing the make up and grins everyone else was wearing, though the looked a little less happy. They approached three strange vending machines and pulled the lever that connected them together. Inside the machines were colorful shining capsules, which everyone could see inside the glass dome. After swallowing the capsules they received, they instantly perked up and went on their merry way, chatting and laughing as they walked off.
It was plain for anyone to see that the missing variable in what was making these humans so bizarre compared to their zoo counterparts was those strange pills they were taking. Since the captive ones were just fine without them, Calcite could deduce that they weren’t necessary at all and it made her wonder why they were even taking them at all. Maybe there was a secondary benefit that she wasn’t seeing without a more scientific study. When she thought it was safe to do so, Calcite approached one of the machines and gave the lever a pull. The resulting multicolored capsule was held in her hand as she stared at it intensely.
The pill itself had a unique shine to it, being able to reflect the sun behind her. Before she could examine it any further, the tv’s on the poles and in a local shop all turned on, showing a tired looking Pearl, wearing the same make up and grin as everyone else.
“Good morning Beach City, Pearl here again to give you the latest updates and news of the world around us.” She said before examining her papers. “We have another week of sunshine and warm temperatures before fall hits, crime has gone down exponentially, and everyone is taking their joys as they should.” She said as her grin slowly fades, but it was hard to tell with the make up. “What about you?” She pointed at the camera, as if asking the question directly to the visiting gem.
Calcite did turn to face the image cubes, considering them a potential source of information as to just what was going on. She almost swore she could recognize the pearl as having been belonging to White Diamond before the war, but with all the make up it really was hard to be certain.
If she had an organic heart, it might have ceased beating when the gem seemed to point right at her. Calcite had to mentally reassure herself that she could have really just been pointing at the camera. How the silt would she even know she was standing with a pill in her hand and less than no intention of taking the almost luminous garbage? Just to be certain, Calcite walked over to a cube that was closer to her eye level to glare at the image as if the gem on the other side could see her (which she doubted as much as White Diamond being useful).
After a few seconds of waiting for some sort of response, she spoke again. "That's right, I'm talking to you, visitor." She said as the tv's on the poles rotate to face her. "If there's one thing we don't like in our happy little community is a downer who won't take their joy." As she says this, a few of the citizens appeared from the street corners, holding weapons and glaring right at her.

After hearing the okay Jamaar began to relax, and before long he was asleep.
Hours pass before the two finally reached the outskirts of Empire city, and she leaned over to wake him up.
After being tapped Jamaar woke with a start, a tendril of energy formed from his arm stump and wrapping itself around Pearl’s hand. After taking a second to realise where he was and that he wasn’t in any danger he relaxed, the energy limb dissipating. “Sorry, reflex.”
"No worries. Just letting you know we're here." She said before turning her vehicle off, and getting out.

“Alright. I’m going to take a quick nap. Wake me up if anything happens.” He said as he closed his eyes and leaned into his chair.
“Right…” She nodded and kept driving down the road, keeping her eyes peeled at all times, which was easy since she barely needed sleep anymore.

Jamaar kicked his foot up and began to relax as he enjoyed the drive. “How long do you think it will take to get to where we’re going?”
“A couple hours at the most. Maybe longer if we run into trouble.” She said, focusing on the road and keeping a steady speed.

Krupp disapproves. I'm trying to make a new meme.
"... Forgive me, mates... But someone has to pay the consequences for Rose Quartz's sins... And I'll take the punishment without any regrets."
“But they won’t punish you! They want Rose Quarts!” Pearl called up to her, as she and the others were in the water. “Please, get down from there while you have a chance!”

“I’ll take what we can get… As long as my fellow human friend is safe from harm.” The female Brit placed a hand on the zircon’s shoulder. “Help us survive.”
“I can do what I can. But chances are if we fail, you and your friend will go to the human zoo.” She said, looking at her screen.“We’ll be going out there in a few moments.”
“The Diamonds need me alive, I do know about Rose Quartz’s history… It’s a waste of resource throwing me in the human zoo, I would try to escape without hesitation… I still got a vengeance with the Aquamarine that brought me and my friend here.” Riff recalled her vow to shatter Aquamarine, Topaz was spared due to them just doing their job. “We won’t fail, er… Name, please?”
“Zircon.” She answered. “As for Aquamarine, she was sent to earth to collect a list of humans…it seems pointless to go after her for doing her job.”
“She harmed my friends, the humans on that list are my friends by taking them hostage, Zircon.” The female Brit growled coldly. “I don’t care if she was doing her job, nobody harms my friends!”Â
“Trust me, you do not want that attitude when we go in there.”
“I know… I just want everyone I care for safe from harm… What Rose Quartz did gave humanity their freedom and independence.”Â
“And the diamonds want that planet destroyed more than ever now.”
“All to avenge their fallen diamond… I’m not letting my planet be destroyed, I’ll fight alongside the crystal gems for that.” Riff pulled back her right sleeve to show her assassin bracer to Blue Zircon. “I work in the dark to serve the light.”
“…I have no idea what that is.” Zircon said, looking at the mark.
“I am a assassin, one that has killed corrupted Templars and those who dare harm/threaten my loved ones and the innocent.” Riff drew out her hidden blade in example. “I deeply despise corruption and injustice, being a fair and lawful ex-constable.”
"...Is this an earthling thing?" She asked.
