Another Originals tangent INCOMING:
People calling Rebekah Mikaelson, the FIRST EVER VAMPIRE, “Barbie Klaus”…it just gets under my skin.
Now listen, before you get all up in arms, let me explain:
I understand the concept, Rebekah is stunning and she does have a serious temper like Klaus does.
However!
It irks me because she deserves an identity for herself, not one that’s tied to the brother who’s physically, mentally, and emotionally abused her for 1,000+ years.
It seems devaluing to her, after she gave so much of herself to her family, to tie her in with her abuser like that. She tries to save Klaus so many times, and that’s what we do to her?
She was the first vampire, for fuck’s sake! An ORIGINAL! But noooo “Barbie Klaus”.
ALL OF THIS.
Rebekah was such an amazing character but the show and the fandom always try to undermine her. I love that she was so fierce but also still able to be feminine and vulnerable. We need to see different representations of strong women and Rebekah was such a great character. She deserved to shine on her own and not just as Klaus' sister or even as a Mikaelson. Just as herself.
