i think part of the reason lost media videos are so fun is that it more ethically scratches the same itch as true crime. a bunch of people online being amateur sleuths and going down rabbit holes is a lot easier to enjoy when theyre looking for a cereal commercial from 1991 instead of liike bothering the families of murder victims

A small PSA to all those new to dealing with the porn bots that Tumblr now has a fresh wave of – I understand that when you go to report them, you want to report them as "[containing] sexually explicit material", but don't do that. Report them as spam instead.

These are spam bots flooding tags and the website in general with spam links. They often do not have anything sexually explicit on their blog (although they often have implicit material). Plus, these two reports get very different results. Reporting explicit material gets the bot slapped behind an 18+ wall, so minors can't check if they're a bot or not. Reporting spam gets the bot taken down.

Remember, folks: when dealing with a bot, report spam, not smut!

I get why people feel annoyed with the “you’ve got to make or reblog posts, not just like stuff” advice that pops up a lot, but it’s just nice to use a social media platform in this good old way with content being circulated by its users rather than by algorithms. One of the reasons I enjoy it is that you can choose to follow few blogs and actually reach the end of new content on your dash rather than having an algorithm spoonfeed you an endless stream of content to keep you scrolling forever. And with tumblr recently making an attempt at having an algorithm, I worry that without posts reminding people that reblogging is the preferred way to interact with posts on here, new users will rely more and more on likes and based-on-your-likes and in-your-orbit and assume that’s how content gets seen on this platform, when really a lot of people turn these functions off or don’t pay attention to them so as to keep this website mainly user-curated with little to no input from algorithms.

Everyone rags on Keanu Reeves performance in Coppola's Dracula. I just think he's playing Ted pretending to be Jonathan Harker. You can even connect that to Alex Winter in Lost Boys. Bill and Ted are traveling in the phone booth and hit a bump and both of them are flung off into random times. Ted lands on Jonathan Harker in 1897 but doesn't try to replace him. Dracula lives. Vampires exist in that timeline now. Bill lands in the near past of 1987 and has to blend in with a group of vampires or get eaten or just ends up getting turned. Ted realizes his mistake and goes back to pretend to be Harker and Quantum Leap style fix the timeline to to save Bill and prevent the spread of vampirism.
