the most burnt out girl in the world would like to remind you that she's actually really lazy compared to the people around her and she could probably use some extra work to keep her honest
Me when the characters in a story start arguing and letting their nasty sides out and i get to see if their relationship can stand it, grow, or if ultimately they break apart. Or maybe even a secret third worse thing.

ADHD affects how I experience time, not how I experience attachment. I love you. I miss you. I just don't realize how long it’s been since I last said that, let alone messaged.
I understand that most normal functioning brains need regular engagement to maintain a bond. Absence doesn’t diminish my affection. My silence isn’t neglect or disinterest. It’s time blindness and object impermanence. The contact gap is purely neurological, not emotional. Thank you for being patient with my inconsistency and holding a seat in your heart for me.

being butch4butch and making the mistake of posting my artwork on the internet has made me realize just how many people see butch lesbians fundamentally as accessories to femmes / feminine women. or like butch identity is defined entirely in relation to femmes ykwim. a butch can't exist as their own entity or with other butches people see this and think something is Missing

have you ever noticed how each time gabrielle gets possessed by a demon or turned evil she starts licking xena. fascinating to ponder

*i wanted to say like how anthy and utena are the 'same'(the twin castor and pollux etc etc) the same could be said with nemuro(mikage) and dios(akio) im just bad at talking
it sneww hahaha amiright guys
I just want to say thank you for this! I’ve been thinking about this post so much lot and wanted to share some of my own thoughts as well.
Nemuro is also the only character without a surname and given how significant he is within the arc I feel like that’s intentional and a subtle hint that he’s Ainu. From my understanding, Ainu naming conventions usually often involve a single descriptive name. I am not at all Ainu, but I am Indigenous and part of a northern Indigenous circumpacific peoples like the Ainu. In many Indigenous cultures naming conventions usually reflect the land and surnames are often, though not always, an external imposition (The name given to me in my language literally translates to “night sky” for example). Here, Nemuro is clearly meant to reference the city in Hokkaido as you mentioned but more specifically the city name Nemuro is also an Ainu place name. That makes me wonder if it’s possible this is simply his full name, which would explain why he isn’t given a surname like everyone else.
I remember reading an analysis that suggested Nemuro’s memories likely take place in the 1930s-40s based on details like the 100 boys being all men, the technology used and the fashion. I agree with this, especially since “living computers” were predominantly people (women mostly) up until the 1940s. Mikage’s final words also mention that it’s been decades since he last saw Mamiya, which implies at least twenty years have passed from whenever present-day Ohtori is set. This is relevant because the early twentieth century was also when some of the most violent assimilationist policies against the Ainu in Japan began, so I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that Nemuro is, at the very least, Ainu-Japanese.
That being said, it’s heavily implied that Nemuro chose the name Souji Mikage for himself. Taking a character from Tokiko’s name fits with my interpretation that Nemuro was very much shaped by Tokiko’s likely unintentional manipulation, which led him to internalize a very specific self-image of a genius, a living computer, a superior being, and ultimately someone not fully human and fundamentally separate from others. Mikage clearly attempts to live up to these labels and tries to perform them through his behaviour and especially through his efforts to embody heteronormativity and social normalcy. Tokiko and Akios influence shaped a very significant portion of his identity. At the same time, I think changing his name to be Japanese can also be understood as an effort to create distance from Nemuro and what that name represents, and instead adopting a constructed identity that feels safer and more socially acceptable within Ohtori.
The racial dynamics in RGU are never explicitly addressed within Ohtori but they are clearly deeply present. Like, the series uses Anthy’s identity to intersect patriarchy with racialization and colorism which shows how these systems consistently sacrifice and place blame on dark-skinned women. And Nemuro is clearly incredibly ostracized from everyone. So I do definitely think he can and should be read this way!
