Summary: Chen'ya delighted in doing Games, Riddles, and guiding others whenever the mood struck him. So when NRC visited RSA for the school basketball tournament, he couldn’t help but notice your lost expression as you clutched a pamphlet, confused. A Cheshire grin spread across his face before he vanished from where he stood, eager to toy with your bewildered self for just a moment.
You stood in the middle of Royal Sword Academy’s courtyard, spinning a poorly folded map in your hands like it might suddenly reveal the truth if you turned it fast enough.
"This doesn't even have labels…" you mumbled, eyes flicking between three nearly identical towers. They all looked like storybook castles. Which one held the guest locker rooms again? “That pamphlet won’t help you much,” said a voice to your left except no one was there.
You jolted, looking around. Nothing. Then, a pair of floating yellow eyes blinked into existence in front of you, followed by a wide, mischievous grin.
“Ohhh, but you’re even cuter up close~” the grin teased before the rest of him shimmered into place purple-striped tail flicking, boots clinking faintly with gold chain charms. You took a step back, caught between baffled and maybe a little enchanted. “Uh… who-?”
“Che’nya,” he chimed, wagging his striped tail. “Tour guide, prankster, part-time menace, full-time charmer.” He winked, then tilted his head. “You’re one of the NRC visitors, aren’t you? Lost? Confused? Hopelessly adorable?” “I’m not adorable,” you muttered.
Che’nya gasped dramatically, lifting a hand to his heart. “Oh, but you are. Look at you, with that furrowed brow and flustered pout. You’re practically begging to be toyed with.”
You glared but only a little. “Is this how you treat all your guests?” “Only the special ones,” he purred.
Before you could reply, he turned on his heel and started walking well, floating? He half-skipped, half-hovered off the ground like the laws of physics barely applied to him. His tail swayed lazily behind him like a waving ribbon.
“Come on, pretty,” he called, looking over his shoulder. “I’ll show you around. And maybe, if you ask nicely, I’ll actually tell you where the court is.” You stared at him for a beat. Then, with a resigned sigh (and maybe a hidden smile), you followed.
The "tour" was more like a maze of riddles and misdirection.
Che’nya didn’t walk in straight lines he cartwheeled, vanished, reappeared on benches, popped his head out of bushes just to startle you. He asked questions with no answers, laughed at your confusion, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, said, “By the way, basketball court’s that way,” and pointed to a building you passed twice already.
“You knew where it was this whole time,” you accused. “Guilty~” he sang, spinning on one foot. “But did you not have fun?” “…Maybe.” He beamed. “See? Not all who wander are lost. Some of them are just following me around because I’m irresistibly charming.” “Or because you keep disappearing every time I try to get an answer out of you.”
“Semantics,” he said, holding out a hand, you blinked with confusion “What?” “You made it through a game with me. That deserves a reward.” His grin was still teasing, but his eyes were just a little softer now. “So, how about I stop vanishing for the day and we just… hang out? You seem interesting. Curious.” His tail swayed once. “And curiosity is my favorite kind of company.”
You hesitated, but then placed your hand in his, he didn’t vanish this time.
Instead, he gave your fingers the lightest squeeze and tugged you forward with a soft hum. “Let’s go get something sweet,” he purred. “You do like tea parties, right? Or do you prefer chaos?” “…Is both an option?” His grin widened. “I knew I liked you.”
