A lullaby for the sleepless

The warmth of those halls and the laughter within them felt like a dream to him when he was taken in by those people and the masks that led him to his role in the play called life. He was the Troupe Master’s magnum opus, the main character of the tragedy that would soon consume him. It was on that day, he remembered well, the screaming voices that echoed within the audience yet he sang, the voices of the damned merging into the chorus of death as he kept singing till the curtain call. 

He remembers it all, the haunting screeches of others and most importantly, the voice that caused screeches, his own voice. It all felt surreal as he dreamed of his nightmares, each voice ripping him apart. “Sing.” He doesn’t want to. Yet the voice in head commands him to. Like phantoms whispering of the tragedies of his performance, they cannot be quelled. “Sing for us.” Lucian didn’t want to and yet in this tragedy within his dreams, he sang, reliving that very tragedy once more. The suffering masses listened, their voices joining once more within the harmonious choir of death. “Lucian.” And it was Lucian who led that choir with his voice. “Lucian!” In this memory named tragedy. “LUCIAN WAKE UP!” Lucian was jolted from his dream, sweating as a cool hand wipes off the sweat that formed on his forehead. “Luci…? Are you okay” your voice anchoring him to reality as he sat up, staring at his own trembling hands. “Are you alright?” your hand had rested on his cheek, cupping them as he felt the soft circles being drawn on them. “I… I’m alright, I just had a nightmare.” His voice trembled as he held the hand that cupped his cheek. His eyes staring back to your own eyes that were filled with worry as Lucian gave a sorry smile. “Apologies for making you worry, my dear.” his voice shook slightly as he relished the feeling of your touch. “Miss Christine kept pawing me to wake up and then I heard you… Do you feel okay now? Would you like to talk about it?” Your voice laced with worry as you positioned yourself to hug him. Lucian could only chuckle as he guided you to lay down next to him on the bed. “I’m alright, my love, if anything I’d like to just rest again…” You could only hum at his answer, nuzzling closer to him, giving him an Eskimo kiss as well. “Would you please sing for me?” Lucian asked, his eyes softly gazing at your own. “Ehhhh but I sing so horribly-”

“No, you don’t.”

“But-”

“You’re just feeling shy again”

“You absolute cheeky-”

“Mreow”

“MISS CHRISTINE YOU TOO?!”

You felt absolutely defeated as the two felines stared at you, Lucian smiling softly as Miss Christine stared at you intently. It was a bit awkward at first but soon you sang with a bit more confidence as Lucian slept in your arms, free from the nightmares that haunted him, your voice drowning the memories that whisper to him.

Hi sorry for the lack of post these days, the amount of paperwork im currently under is keeping me bound in a basement. It's been five days of nonstop writing of project proposals and reading through differenr applications 🧍🔫
