hey guys. so i live in new zealand, and some of you might have heard of the terrorist attack in christchurch. fortunately, i don’t live there, but our country is so small it just hits so close to home. we have a population of less than 5 million people, and only 1% of nz are muslim.

i cannot fathom the hatred it would take to commit such a terrible crime. it has literally been 29 (almost 30) years since the last mass shooting occurred in nz. this was a terrorist attack, a crime of hate.

but also, imagine the people who were at the climate change protest in christchurch. that giant group of students could easily have been a target of such a tragedy. people just like us. teenagers fighting for a better world. thank god they are safe. new zealand is not supposed to be like this. we should stand together and pray for everyone affected.

new zealand is a country built on a multi-racial, multicultural population. to dismiss this as a simple shooting wouldn’t suffice. it’s a TERRORIST ATTACK. it’s an act of hate on a specific group of people, and we need to call it like it is. don’t shy away from it. we need to be bold.
