"Portrait of an artist in stripes"
the time in between
The way I see it, being an artist is something you can never lose. You might not always be able to make art, but the aesthetics and feeling of being an artist stay with you forever. The nuances of seeing the world differently, the need to express ones self creatively and the introspective nature in way we live our lives stays with us, long after we cease to be in a studio.
Etching, engraving, mezzotint, printmaking.... It has been nearly a year since I have been in a printshop, since my hands have touched ink or rollers or tarletan, and yet nothing is lost. It has stayed with me, I have retained it entirely. I fall back into it seamlessly- the time it takes to etch a plate, the viscosity of ink, wetness of paper, the fineness of rosin, the texture of aquatint, the knowledge for tonality and shade, the feel of an emboss, the smell of a fresh print. It has stayed with me.

I am staying at this adorable house for the duration of my residency at Atelier de L'Ile in Val David. Reminds me only of summer.
