Jabberywocky: Dust in the Wind

While at Avalanche I worked on an internal project called Jabberwocky.  It was a very beautiful and magical world about a boy who befriended a monster.  We, the story team, worked very hard to create a compelling narrative.  Ultimately it was cancelled but not before we created a short as a means to inspire/convince Disney executives that it had merit.  I pitched the idea to our Disney Interactive executive who liked it and suggested that we use Blur Studios.  Unlike the Grinch my heart didn’t grow three sizes that day, it was my eyeballs.  I had followed Blur Studios for some time and their work was excellent.  Blur Studios was decided upon and the story team delivered a complete animatic.  Blur Studios told us, at the time, that it was the best and most complete animatic they had ever received which helped streamline and keep the budget down.  Below are my initial thumb nails working out the sequence.  Each member of the story team took a section and de-crapified my thumbnails and added their charm to make a great little piece.  (Trent Halvorsen, Shane Lewis, Casey Nelson, Adrian Ropp, and Adam Koford)  I worked with Jeff Bunker (Art Director) and directed things from the Avalanche side.  This was very exciting for me because it proved that we could execute on quality if only given the budget since everything at the time seemed to be lashed together with prayers and bailing wire.
