“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Aaron mumbled shyly, rubbing his cheeks as if that would help make the color fall from them.

“Oh yes! How ideal and not at all strange!” She said, trying to fight the blush in her cheeks by rolling her eyes. “Besides, we get to stare at him up close now, silly.”

“I’d forgotten we achieved up close and personal status! Though, I feel as if we were too be standing right in front of him and staring longingly, it’d have a much more different effect as opposed to if it was from someplace he couldn’t see.”

   “Me? Oh please…“ Frank said, waving a hand in dismissal. “Well, perhaps a bit. There’s nothing wrong with that though, right?“

“I mean, of course not. After all, I know whose got you in that spirit, and she is one of the most lovely people in existence.”

Her eyes lit up slightly at Aaron’s words and she couldn’t help but smile. “Oh, like what?”

“We could stare at Lucius from afar, I know how you love to do that.”

“I think being single on Valentine’s Day is already a good enough excuse to get drunk, and that’s without the ball!”

“Aaron Avery, are you a Valentine’s day scrooge?,” questioned Alice, eyebrows raised and expression shocked. “I must say I’m highly disappointed.”

“It’d easier not to be a Valentine’s Day scrooge if I was in the same position as you, Alice. But not all of us are lucky enough to have a Frank,” he mused with a grin.

   “I would normally cringe over the fact of a ball with dates, but I kind of see the idea appealing lately.“ Frank grinned.

Aaron’s eyebrows raised and he grinned brightly, “Ooooohhh, Frank is in the spirit of loooooove.”

And from that first day when she hopped off the train and ended up on the same boat as two other boys her age, it seemed destined. She couldn’t have known then, of course. Couldn’t have known that they’d be sorted into Hufflepuff (she always knew she would be in Slytherin). She couldn’t know that they’d share classes and for some reason always find their way to each other. She couldn’t know that when her Sixth Year approached and the imminent loss of her friends would come with it she would still have her boys and their piggyback rides and their presence at the events she simply couldn’t attend alone. 

How could she have guessed all that as an eleven year old floating across the dark water and grumbling about the closeness of someone who called himself Caelius and the boy she’d known as Aaron. I mean really, as she told them, you probably ought to scoot over at least a bit or you’ll be swimming to Hogwarts. 

They’ve been practically inseparable since.

Aaron draped his arm over Narcissa’s shoulder, “Let’s go do something fun then.”

She giggled, shoving it back in her pocket. “Y’know if I’d won I would have kept yours,” she teased him, nudging his side. A smirk rested on her lips as she looked up at him. “I’m a pretty good businesswoman you know.”

Aaron rolled his eyes with a smirk. “I’m sure you would. I guess I’m just nicer,” he teased. “Consider that my investment in you.”

She smiled and shook Aaron’s hand before watching the scene play out. As the girl seemed to cave in and kiss the boy Narcissa scoffed loudly enough for the couple to hear. “Ridiculous,” she said, holding out ten Galleons for Aaron. “How desperate could she possibly be, to kiss a guy like that?”

Aaron smirked as he accepted the money from Narcissa but then dropped five Galleons back into her hand, “Apparently, very. Thank you for the payment, Cissa. It’s always a pleasure doing business.”

“Fine,” she said, looking up at Aaron. “Ten Galleons says he’s an idiot who just lost his girlfriend. You in?“

Aaron smirked and held his hand out to Narcissa for her to shake, “I’ll take that bet.”
