Apologies for my absence! Life has a way of being demandingly busy and shortly after making this blog, I found myself wholly preoccupied with said life events. Things have begun to settle once more so I shall hopefully get some posts together soon!

Character Studies: Martin the Warrior
This list is intended to be used as a reference for writers or artists if they so choose, but it should be noted that I value creative freedom and this list is not meant to be strictly followed.
Out of my own curiosity and for continuity's sake, I flipped through Martin the Warrior, Mossflower, and The Legend of Luke in search of any potential scarring Martin may have after his battles and adventures. As such, I've made quick list of injuries for easy reference.
As listed in Martin the Warrior:
Pecked on side by gannet
Deep scratches on face from the one on one wrestle with Wakk, Chieftain of the Gawtrybe
Sword slash across chest by Badrang
Cuts on shoulders, arms, paws from the fight with Badrang
Bite on shoulder from the fight with Badrang
As listed in Mossflower:
Arrow wound in side (his sling pouch saves him severe injury)
Clawed on back, face and head by Tsarmina (puncture wounds from her teeth from biting as well)
And, of course, his amnesia (while not a physical wound, it still is incredibly important and shows in more ways than physical scarring)
It should also be noted that this is not an extensive list. I was very specifically searching for (potentially or obviously) long-lasting injuries. If anyone would like to contribute, please feel free to do so.
Additionally, I'm very likely to make similar lists for other characters.
Oooh, I like the idea of character references! I’ve seen a lot of fan art with Martin having a chunk missing from his ear, but never knew if that had any grounding in the lore.
Also don’t forget!!! He probably has whip marks on his back, from being a slave!!
A very good point. While I didn't see reference of such in the books (if anyone has seen any, please let me know), I think it's safe to say he would have some scarring over flogging/beating by his captors at Marshank.

I just wanna say that I love this idea! I know there is a lot of good stuff going in in the Redwall Wiki. Maybe you all can eventually collaborate!
Perhaps in future! I know I will be certainly referencing much of the Redwall Wiki in my quick searches (I already have quite a few bookmarks saved). If anyone is reading who has yet to check out the Redwall Wiki, please do so! It's excellent.
the sub-subgenre of Actually Medieval European pseudo-medieval european fantasy
This post (and its tags) remind me of an academic article I read about Redwall. It criticized the book for not being an accurate portrayal of Medieval Europe.
I should find it again. I was annoyed at the time because the citizens are animals of COURSE it’s not an accurate depiction of Medieval Europe but now I wanna reread and absorb the ideas.

This article was published in a peer-reviewed journal in 2003, which is pretty cool. I look forward to Redwall being discussed more in academic journals.
