Script for my power point - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Question 2, evaluation
How have you created a ‘brand identity’ across your music video, digipak and advert? similar images, colour and font?
(First slide) In the pictures featured on my power point, you can see that I have used similar pictures and shots for my ancillary tasks as in my Main task. This is because i would like audiences to see the similarities in both of my media products.(next slide) As you can see in one of the songs from Rhianna’s album ‘Loud’ they have used similar colours and pictures for both the digipak and music video with deep reads. Rhianna also has the same make up on in both pictures. (next slide) In all of my ancillary tasks i have used the same font. It is called Lino Write and i downloaded it from a site called Dafont, this also helped me increase the brand as my audiences will hopefully draw parallels between the different tasks. (next slide) Using the same colour in my ancillary tasks and main task was a big aspect of my work. By using the nature looking aspect in some of my shots i created the ideal that their relationship was a gift from nature and that they traveled back to these places because of how beautiful the setting was.
How do you think your digipak design will sell the song/album to the audience?
By using characters for my main task on my digipak pictures i have created characters that are relatable to other members of society. For example is a boy is feeling sad about the loss of his ex but didn’t want to show it this video and digipak would hopefully tell him that it is okay to feel sad about a loss of a lover. The use of a boy and a girl on the back and front cover of my digipak i have allowed more people to connect with my digipak, for example a girl would buy it because there was a girl on the back and a boy will feel the same about the front. The colours are also very involving because they are not bright colours that jump out and potentially shock audiences of indi pop genre. They’re dark allowing people to be drawn in to see the details of the digipak.
How do you think your advert design will sell the digipak to the audience?
By using similar pictures for my digipak and advert audiences will be able to draw parallels between the two products. My pre-release poster has a quote from a popular newspaper, allowing audiences to see that there have been main articles written about the album before it has been released.
The post-release poster is a light blue colour to emphasize the mood of the genre of the digipak and album. It is very plain compared with the pre-release poster and from this I that people will want to know more about the album and research it or look out for it in their everyday lives. This could allow the fan base to become bigger for the artist because it is very allusive.
The use of the brit awards winner sticker in the bottom of both posters allows audiences to see that this album has also been very popular in the world of music.
What elements of your advert and digipak communicate the genre of the music video and the style of the singer?
My advert communicates the genre of my music video through the use of similar colours and settings to other music videos and adverts of the indi pop genre. As you can see for Florence and the machines advert we have used similar dark and drab colours to illustrate to an audience that the genre is quite sad and dark. I have also used a character for my advert and music video that does not directly address the audience and turns his back to the camera. Directly addressing the audience is a very prominent part of the pop genre as it draws audiences in, where as in the indi genre they chose to draw audiences in through their allusive nature. This is also shown in Florence and the machines advert because she faces away from the camera as though she has something to hide. Both characters are in the middle of the shot as that is where as an audience our attention is based.
My digipak communicates the genre to the audience in a very similar way to my advert. By using similar colours and shots to lungs i am able to communicate the indi pop genre.
