“Love, it turns out, is as undemocratic as money, so it accumulates around people who have plenty of it already: the sane, the healthy, the lovable.”
— Nick Hornby, How to Be Good
journal, august 1st

“The way human beings speak is so heartbreaking to me—we never sound the way we want to sound. We’re always stopping ourselves in mid–sentence because we’re so terrified of saying the wrong thing. Speaking is a kind of misery. And I guess I comfort myself by finding the rhythms and accidental poetry in everyone’s inadequate attempts to articulate their thoughts. We’re all sort of quietly suffering as we go about our days, trying and failing to communicate to other people what we want and what we believe.”
— Annie Baker
My answer to that question is that some days it's freedom and other days it's loneliness.
i think that "chosen one" stories are generally kind of lame and a totally overdone cliche in pop culture but i do also think that they have the potential to be really fucking good if the chosen one in question forms a group of friends and mentors who all saw this young adult lured into accepting the burden of saving the entire world by promises of adventure and fame and went "that's fucked up actually. nobody can or should be expected to do that alone." and stubbornly refused to allow them to be convinced into believing otherwise
the cringe prophecy: the fate of the universe rests in YOUR hands alone!!!
my based union: the council has decided "nuh uh"
I wonder if there's anyone in the world who's not looking for inspiration -- whether consciously or subconsciously. And I wonder if their hearts ever truly break.

I think about you.
It's not fair. No.

You rewired my brain chemistry. And then left.
Octobers
It always has to be October. Despairing the unthinkable November. And being told to just let November be November. But isn’t that what we constantly do? We may try to console ourselves by thinking there’s something we can do about the months that come after October. But there’s none. We just try to learn how to get by. You’re convinced that going with the flow is the easy way to go. And more often than not, it feels like it is. But thing about that is we almost have zero control over the streams. At one time how terrifyingly fast and at times how excruciatingly slow. Where it leads you. What you crash into. How bad it left you after the crash. Into how many pieces you break. We got no say because we are just going with the flow. As easy and as hard as that.

Of the city, of the crosswalks, of the pink skies, of the entrance door, of the common circumstance of being here.
The ineradicability of hope despite the futility of effort.
We always make it across. Catching our breaths and moving forward. Showing up. They said that's half the battle.
Most days, this is my favorite part.
At times, you're a few meters late and 30 seconds away. Then the light turns green.
sociological imagination
“Rather than playful beings, we are often encouraged today to be calculating beings, that is to say to get the most we can as individuals. This is a familiar idea in the current era of individualism which promotes self-interested behavior across the board, from the economic to the personal. Trust has been eroded from all sides, we stand alone against everyone and we are supposed to enjoy it.”
— Nina Power, “What Do Man Want?” (2022).
just saw a post written by a very kind and tolerant person politely explaining in detail why it is rude to listen to music/watch stuff on your phone in public without earbuds. I'm glad people patient enough to do that exist, since the only explanation I could possibly offer is "because you aren't the protagonist of this grocery store"
