Any of y’all ever read stephen king’s dark tower series? Because the original westworld and this hbo remake obviously take heavy inspiration from it and it really drove home when I saw william’s hand in this episode.

William is the equivalent of the gunslinger in the original movie and the gunslinger in king’s first dark tower novel is hunting “the man in black.” In the second book the gunslinger loses two fingers on his right hand just like william did in season two.

Dolores is also a lot like a character from the books. One of the characters the gunslinger meets along his journey has two personalities living inside of her. One is a sweet southern lady and the other is a nasty woman who wants to kill the gunslinger the instant she meets him. The two eventually merge to become one woman not unlike Dolores and Wyatt.

I haven’t finished the series so that’s all the major comparisons I can give. It is fun to read while watching the show though.

He himself begins to grow unsure of what is real and what is not. And this leads to, you know, “these violent delights, have violent ends.” And he, in his confused and tortured mind, kills his own daughter, for real, and then proceeds to start hacking into his own skin because he doesn’t understand anymore what’s real and what’s not. And it’s grating him and haunting him. It’s in some ways a full reversal of what was happening to Dolores. He’s in a prison of his own sins and that prison is now his own damn mind.
