So with the start of this exciting month, I want to promise myself some things.
1. I keep saying this, but it’s because it’s that important. I want myself to read a lot because it means being given the opportunity to immerse oneself in a completely different world just by opening the front cover and slipping past the pages down to its last ones. This can lead to furthered understandings of and introductions to famous ideas, expanded limits to one’s imagination, newly acquired knowledge on various subjects, etc. Plus, it will give me hints on how to be a better writer; (not a novelist, but someone who has the power to move people with only their words) I think the best way to learn something is by diving into the very scene, and in this case by reading other people’s words I’ll be able to catch glimpses on what well-structured sentences look like and how they are jointed to form a flawless, convincing paragraph which will then turn out to be a perfect piece of literature. Moreover it can help with colorizing my vocabulary and enhancing fluency, which is what I really need. I don’t want my reading to have a limited range of genres, but to include anywhere from war novels, history, art, fashion, philosophy to presidential autobiographies, but one thing I could never get familiar with is science fiction-the ones with robots and guns and killings- I’ve never appreciated those metallic machine-humans and the same type of movies I do not enjoy watching. So yeah. I should read.
2. Think before you speak. Think before you eat. The mouth is always the problem. I think at most times it is better not to open it. As I see it, we humans are such sensitive, fragile beings and very emotional ones at that- that it is never too harmful to take caution when being around others no matter how close you think you are to that person and think it’s okay to mess around with them. Oh and one thing I’ve learned through my not-so-long span of social life is that you shouldn’t talk about a certain person behind their backs. There’s a reason why this phrase shows up so much to this day. Just don’t. The relief you would feel after deciding not to do so even after being tempted to is so much rewarding compared to the spontaneous joy of doing it and getting into a whole lot of trouble socially AND personally, biting on your nails alone in your room afterwards.
3. Time is precious, youth is not forever. Always keep this in mind and use time wisely. I’m already done with my first semester of my second year at university, and looking back, yes I did have a lot of fun and went to a lot of places with my friends and family, but I’m not sure if this was my best. I was just so excited to be freed from all that college-admission stress and whatnot that I was busy leaving myself to do absolutely nothing, act only to my heart’s content by the second and not allow deep contemplation on my future or just about anything. I think it’s time I let my brain do a little work again. Currently I’m working on my Spanish, attending an academic institution every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. My plan is to acquire a DELE B2 certificate by November (but the grades would probably be ready for me to check in Jan-Feb) and then I’ll slowly work my way up to C2, which is the requirement when applying for a Diplomat (precisely, a regional professional group). Like most students of my age, I can’t say I’ve chosen a single and concrete path for me to walk towards my future, and I’m more on the side of those fearing and being preoccupied for not having one, but throughout my life some of the professions I’ve been interested in are TV producers, fashion merchandiser/ designer, diplomat. I think I’ll leave my chances open for now. Well.... till the end of next semester, at the farthest.
So with this long letter to myself set aside, I’m happy today because
1. I was told a golden recipe when ordering chocolate bubble tea! 50% sweetness, 50% ice, add milk foam, seal top, shake shake shake. It was delicious.
went to a cocktail bar today, and my friends and I confirmed that Kahlua milk was the best. We will not again waste our energy venturing other drinks with alluring names.
2. The sneakers I ordered last Friday came in mail today! I’m lovin them, those gorgeous white babies, must be tired from the flight all the way from New York. I’m having a shoe-crisis nowadays, every pair of shoes I see and like I must have, and the shortage of bills is the only thing preventing me from splurging on them. All I see when I go out on the streets are those shoes................. doesn’t hurt to just watch them does it?!
