"Mmm… In a li’l bit…" Dell’s hands slid slowly down to Philippe’s hips, and he began to guide him down the side of the truck to the back. "First… there’s somethin’ I wanted t’ ask you… an’ somethin’ else I’ve been dyin’ t’ do ever since I found this truck…"
Pausing at the rear of the vehicle, Dell pulled back just enough to look Philippe in the eyes and smiled just a little bashfully. “Forgive me if I’m out a’ line, but… tomorrow bein’ what it is an’ all, I was wonderin’ if you might wan’ t’… do somethin’ special… with me…?”
"...Tomorrow, mmm?" The Spy gnawed lightly on the inside of his bottom lip as he regarded his lover. Tomorrow was usually reserved for sleeping and moping in private like a ridiculous child. Or a Scout. They were often the same thing, really. But this year, he had Dell in a way he never would've expected. He'd be a fool to pass up the opportunity. His lips curved into a tiny smile. "Oui... I would like zat. Very much."
Peering over his shoulder into the bed of the truck, he raised an eyebrow at it. Although thankfully dry and free of frost and snow, it was undoubtedly just as cold as the air in which their breaths fogged up, if not somehow colder. "So! What is it zat you 'ave been dying to do in zis truck?"

"You did that for me…" Arms tightening around Philippe’s waist, Dell pressed his face against the Spy’s neck, nuzzling and sighing happily, not making a peep about his hat. "You’re jus’ too perfect…"
In all the time they’d been together, they hadn’t yet had any sort of discussion about just what kind of relationship this was nor said the words that would have confirmed that. But Philippe had been very receptive to the Engineer’s more romantic gestures the last few weeks - going for walks through the snow, discreetly holding hands whenever possible, lying together without progressing toward sexual activity - granted that last one wasn’t always successful. And now he’d gotten Dell’s truck back for him. Certainly then this had to be more to the Spy than just convenience.
Lifting his face from Philippe’s neck, Dell caught his lips in a slower, more tender kiss. “Thank you, Philippe…”
"You are welcome, Dell..." Philippe leaned his head against Dell's, hat going askew and grinning like some sappy Heavy or Medic. Not that he could ever compare to their team's own Heavy and Medic combination; Grigori and Nikki seemed to have patented their own brand of cloying sweetness. But it didn't matter. Dell was happy, and Philippe made that happen.
"Now..." He nipped at his Engineer's ear. "Shall we drive your truck back to ze base and...enjoy more rigorous pursuits...?"

Philippe grinned into the kiss, gently tugging his arms out of Dell’s grip to wrap them around his shoulders. He knew the idea of getting Dell’s truck back for him would please the Engineer, but he had no idea this was how he’d react. Perhaps he should’ve gotten it back for him sooner.
Keeping his arms around him, the Spy pulled back from the kiss to pull Dell back towards the truck and leaned himself against one side of the bed. “I take it you approve of your surprise. It was a good one, non?”
"I love it…" the Engineer managed to murmur in between kisses. He followed Philippe’s lead and gently pressed the Spy against the truck. "It’s th’ best surprise I’ve ever gotten. My God, Philippe… How did you do this…? How did you get it here…?"
"I saw zat RED 'as a jeep, and I did not see why we should not 'ave a ve'icle as well. And I remembered 'ow you missed your truck when we found out we were coming 'ere instead, so... I put in ze request a monz or so ago." Leaning in, Philippe stole a kiss with a smile and then stole Dell's cowboy hat with an even bigger one, placing it on his head.
"Your truck arrived wiz ze supplies, but it could not be unloaded at ze dock, so I was told zat it would be delivered to our ozzer dock, which is outside ze respawn zone, and I filled it wiz ze fuel zey included zen moved it 'ere from zere. We will receive more fuel for it next monz."

Dell obediently kept his eyes closed until told otherwise, face turned down to see that the object placed in his hand was a set of keys, though he’d suspected as much from their weight and the sound they’d made. He frowned. Why on earth would he need to be all the way out here just for Philippe to give him-?
His eyes widened, and he snapped his head up. Right there on the path before them was a pickup truck. His truck. Not just one that looked like it, not just the same make and model, but his exact truck. The one he’d found half-buried in weeds at Sawmill and fixed up. The one he’d had to have put into BLU storage before their transfer here. It was right here in front of him. Speechless, he hurried over to press his hands against the door, as if making sure if was really there.
"Wh… But… How did…?"
Suddenly turning back to stare at Philippe, Dell rushed back over to seize him by the arms and pull him into a hard kiss.

"With pleasure…" Dell’s smirk morphed quickly into a grin as he took hold of Philippe’s hips. If it had been difficult to get Philippe off his mind before anything had actually transpired between then, it was beyond impossible now. The formerly reserved and often prudish Engineer found himself with a one-track mind whenever the Spy was near and even when he wasn’t, and it proved quite the distraction from work and chores and breathing. Not that he could bring himself to care. Not when he was this happy. Not when he could make the normally cool, collected, confident Spy squirm and beg for him…
But now probably wasn’t the best time to dwell on that. In a few minutes, perhaps. Dell stopped his hands from sliding back to Philippe’s rear and readjusted his grip, still grinning. “Lead th’ way.”
They were actually practically on top of the surprise. Just twenty more meters, and the wide path curved slightly downward around a big tree to another flat area where Philippe had been keeping the surprise under a tarp for the past two weeks. He'd come out this morning to remove the tarp and make sure everything was as it should be. It wouldn't be a very good surprise if it wasn't working, after all.
Slowly, the Spy brought them to another stop and moved behind Dell again, fingers gingerly working at the small knot of the blindfold. "Now... I would ask zat you keep your eyes closed after I remove zis until I tell you to open zem..."
Philippe carefully folded the blindfold up and slipped it into a pocket, trading it for something else and pressing that something into one of Dell's hands. "Open your eyes, mon cher..."

"Oh, I don’ doubt I’ll like it. Whatever it is. You’ve never steered me wrong before."
Dell kept a firm grip on Philippe’s hand and enjoyed the winter scenery as the Spy led him down the path, idly entertaining the idea of pulling him aside to make out against a tree for a minute or two and initially thinking Philippe had the same idea when he brought them to a stop near one. The blindfold he was presented with instead was unexpected and intriguing, and the Engineer couldn’t resist a smirk and a raised eyebrow.
"Now, darlin’, don’ ya think we ought t’ head back t’ my room for that?’
Philippe snorted with laughter, quickly covering his mouth out of propriety. It never failed to amaze him how bold Dell could be with him sometimes. When they first met, he was stand-offish and a bit of a hermit, which amused the Spy to no end and compelled him to bother the Engineer as much as he possibly could to the point of angering him. Dell could even be downright surly if Philippe pushed him enough.
But the closer they became, things changed. His stand-offishness translated into shyness, his anger changing into laughter. Now that they were lovers, everything changed again, and the Spy enjoyed unleashing the passionate man underneath it all.
"Later, I promise." Philippe moved behind the Engineer and swiftly tied the blindfold over his eyes before moving back in front of him. With his back to Dell, he took his hands and held them onto his hips. "We are almost zere. Just follow me, mmm?"

"Well… I gotta admit, this wasn’ exactly what I was thinkin’ when you said ‘surprise’…" Honestly, the Engineer had expected something more comfortably conducted behind closed doors, perhaps with liberal application of liquor. And that one time quite literally whipped cream. That had been fun. But he grinned and squeezed Philippe’s hand, which he’d taken as soon as they were safely out of sight of the base and hadn’t let go of.
"I am wonderin’ what you wan’ with me out here in th’ woods. But I trust ya."
"As I said, it is a surprise." The Spy threw him a mischievous grin. "I am certain you will like it. It is only a surprise for you in zat you do not know where we are going or why, but... Once all is revealed, you will understand."
They stepped onto a different path, wider and covered with a light dusting of snow, although patches of brown weeds poked out from various spots. Not too much further down the path, Philippe brought them to a stop at a strip of blue cloth fluttering from where it was tied to a tree branch. He untied the cloth and turned back to face Dell, the smile on his face spreading into something that was part devious, part highly amused. "For ze rest of ze walk, I am afraid I will 'ave to blindfold you, Monsieur..."

Dell immediately dropped everything he was doing to slide his arms along the ones wrapped around him and lean back into the Spy’s embrace. Even with multiple space heaters, the workshop remained cold and lonely in the winter months. ”Mmm… Oh, you’re warm…” he sighed as he nuzzled his face into the crook of Philippe’s neck. “An’ you’ve got perfect timin’. I was jus’ thinkin’ ‘bout lookin’ for you…”
The promise of a surprise ignited so many delightful possibilities in the Engineer’s mind. There was something he planned to ask the Spy today, but he quickly decided it could wait until after Philippe had his turn. “A surprise, hmm…? Well, how can I say no t’ that?”
"You cannot..." Philippe snickered then turned his head to steal a quick kiss before straightening up. "Come. We must go for a walk..."
Maintaining his air of mystery with a little grin, the Spy led Dell out of his workshop, past the greenhouse, and into the woods behind their compound. Most people would probably be wary of being led off into the woods by a Spy for a surprise, even if said Spy was their lover; as a general rule of thumb, one simply did not wander cluelessly into a place with only a Spy as a guide.
"Are you not curious as to where I am taking you?"

To be perfectly honest, Philippe wasn't all that excited about surprises. Surprises, more often than not, had an uncanny way of going sideways and not achieving the desired result. However, he was almost completely certain this one would go off without a hitch.
The Spy let himself into Dell's chilly workshop and instantly made his way over to the Engineer to drape himself over his back, arms around his chest. With a little nuzzle to his ear, his voice was soft as he spoke into it. "Bonjour, mon ingénieur... Do you zink you could find some time in your busy schedule of...technical artistry to join me today? I 'ave a surprise for you..."

The supply shipment would be in by the weekend, so Philippe decided to check up on a particular request of his. It wouldn't be good to make any plans without the arrival of that particular item.
Dialing a BLU office from the Communications room, he leaned back in his chair and put his feet up on the table as it rang. A smile spread across his face when he heard a familiar voice pick up on the other end. "Bonjour, Madame. 'ow are zings today? ... C'est bien. ... 'ere? Ze same as always, of course. Zis base is...remote, which does 'ave its perks, but zere are many drawbacks as well. ... Receiving supplies more frequently was not 'being spoiled,' as you put it. ... We 'ave been 'ere nearly nine monz, and zere is nozzing to do but ze job. It is worse zan being at-- ... Oui, and I appreciate all of ze zings we are allowed 'ere, but--"
Philippe was cut off by his associate at the BLU office and heaved a heavy sigh. Why did they always take it as complaining? Certainly they weren't at the worst base available, but they had to know such a remote location was far from ideal. Even the desert bases had towns to travel to on occasion. "...Madame, I am not complaining. I am simply stating ze facts. We are in ze middle of nowhere, and if we were not killing each ozzer in battle a few times a week, we would be going out of our minds wiz boredom and start killing each ozzer for real. ... Mostly, we 'ave been exploring ze area. ... 'ave we found anyzing? No," he lied. "Should we expect to...?"
He drummed his fingers on the desk. That question definitely sounded like BLU knew something, but his contact wasn't giving anything away. The Spy would have to think about that more later. "...Can I not call simply to check in and 'ear zat you are well? ... But oui, I 'ad anozzer reason for calling. Zat request I made a couple of weeks ago... Is everyzing on ze ship...? ... Excellent. ... What? Well, zen where will zat one be unloaded? ... Is zat so... Interesting. Coordinates, s'il vous plait...?" The drumming stopped as he jotted down a few numbers and letters. "...C'est bien. ... I will speak wiz you again next week. ... Merci beaucoup, Madame... Au revoir..."
Hanging up the phone, the Spy grinned and laced his fingers behind his head. This was going to be the best present ever.
