Remediation
I saw this article on Twitter posted by Frank Keating. It is a good article but neglects the how to. https://www.tulsaworld.com/homepagelatest/frank-keating-oklahoma-schools-need-more-rigor-and-less-remediation/article_0ea14d58-0b63-5bb6-bda6-72372a49f8af.html
I heard our state superintendent say families spend an average of $20,000 on remediation for first year college students. The state wants to shift that remidation back down to the high school level. When I asked if the high school is going to get the $20,000 per student to remediate students to prepare them for college the answer was no.
So in my mind the cost to get a student ready for college, specially in the area of math, is about $20,000. The state does not want to cover the costs, does not want families to cover the costs, will not provide schools the resources but the state wants students to get the education. Rigor.
Back to School
Back at it. Summer comes to an end.
Tongue numbing tofu at Tsubaki Szechuan.
Grilling pork chops for dinner.
This is an interesting conversation.
Wondering how trival pursuit would be as a five minute class warm up. Send a photo to all and then students find the answers. Could make a gameification reward too.
GAFE
I have been working on a daily Google AppsFor Education tutorial. It has been fun to make. Wondering if it is on the right track and helpful. sites.google.com/a/edmondschools.net/gafe/home
