Silhouette is a minimalist dining table created by Copenhagen-based designer Cecilie Manz for Fucina. Fucina presented a collection on a theme that is particularly dear to us Italians: conviviality. Three designers, three nationalities and different identities: out of these, we have 4 projects that approach the theme of the table in totally different ways. A table with 4 legs, a table with 2 legs, and a table with a central base. With rectangular, square, round, and elongated round table tops. In all of these projects, however, the remarkable part is the processing of the legs, which appear imposing and firm, in contrast to the thinness of the tops. The sheet folds up, taking on a three-dimensional appearance, both in the tables by Cecilie Manz as well as in those by Jun Yasumoto. If one with a very broad pen should communicate ‘table’, it would probably look like this: a horizontal line and two vertical lines. This archetype silhouette is here added smooth details and fine craftsmanship.

Before I finish shaping the arms I had to come up with a creative way to be able to clamp the arms for glue-up with no surface to clamp. My solution: glue on some sacrificial blocks for the clamps to grab. Cross Chair has a thoughtful balance of elements that create an intricate but stable experience. It’s form gives the ability to be stacked 4 at the time. The Cross Chair frame is made from solid oak: a durable material with a natural weight that lends authority to the design. Made only using FSC-certified wood, eco-labelled wool and aniline leather. Cross Chair is shipped as flat pack and CO2 emissions are minimized through shipping more in less space. Cross Chair is 100% eco-certified and produced using wood from sustainable forests, the forests are given time to naturally regenerate, local wildlife is sustained and worker conditions are balanced. Constructed for disassembly, the Cross Chair can be separated out into key materials for recycling and worn parts can be replaced.
