A Hellmouth native, Abraxas grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth and the city streets in his veins.
The firstborn child to a renowned and long line of witches, Abraxas wanted for nothing as they grew. Magic was a part of his everyday life from the day he was born. His parents encouraged him to study herbology, growth cycles, and healing, suspecting that his affinity would align with their own- nature magic.
His 13th birthday was fear and fire. No one had been expecting an explosion at midnight. As their drawing room set aflame, the Rai family fled their ancestral home and watched it burn to the ground with their eldest child still smoking amongst the ashes.
With the bottom of their feet and palms scarred from attempting to tame their flames that night, Brax carries a constant reminder of the cost of his power. Due to such a traumatic first encounter with their magic and a family who was unequipped to handle it, Abraxus sought tutelage from the witch community and quickly found it. After all, Hellmouth was an epicenter for as much magic as any supernatural could ask for.
After an adolescence and young adulthood filled with such focus on honing his skills and learning all that he could about magic, becoming a teacher at the Witch Academy just made sense. Despite being the exact opposite of what most think of when they imagine a professor or teacher, Brax is damn good at their job and knows it. His teaching style is often less than traditional, but he has never had a student leave his classroom with him thinking they gained nothing.
Despite this success, Brax still feels as if they are a in constant battle against being consumed by their own magic. Many have suggested they seek a familiar. Others have said meditation retreats. Some even posited the idea of siphoning his power daily into totems to leave him weak and less volatile, despite Abraxus having had no accidental arsons since he was a teen. Taking some of that advice, Brax began to hone their runic magic to supplement their conjuration expertise. Being able to siphon some of his power into symbols drawn for a specific purpose, with some constantly drawing from him should he allow it, provided a measure of relief that he wish he had found as a younger man.
Honed by a life of wrestling with his own self image whilst dealing with the judgements of his family and others, Abraxus became known as someone with the sharpest tongue and deepest wallets. Well into their teen years, they became a regular within Hellmouth’s night scene, seeking relief amongst booze, fake smiles, and a hookup culture that took intimacy out of the equation. Still funded by his family’s fortune, Brax is not above flashing paper and enjoys sitting at the head of the night scene whenever it so suits him.
