summary: within circeâs resort, your walls are forcefully broken down and percy gets a little too close for comfort
a/n: school has been kicking my butt sorry for a late uploadâŠas always please let me know if i messed up anywhere and what you want to see next!! ;)
percyâs eyes search yours for an answer, âwe have to do this, why are you treating it like itâs optional?â
deep down you know you have to, but to tell the truthâŠyouâre scared. youâve finally figured out how to function with all the walls youâve built and this would risk breaking them.
thereâs no way in hell youâre letting anyone see the real you.
you turn to circe with a hint of annoyance âthis is dumb, are you sure thereâs no other way?â she responds with a laugh.
âfatal flaws are mental and physical weaknesses that cause the downfall of a hero, iâm curious as to why you wouldnât want to know yoursâŠâ
she directs herself toward percy âwe can start with you since sheâs hesitantâ
âiâm not hesitant!!â this bitchâŠ
percy walks toward the mirror and looks into it. his posture immediately tenses as the memories come flooding back. each depicting a time where he put his friends above everyone else including himself.
you notice a vortex forming in the glass of water on the table.
when the mirror finishes going through his memories, circe starts writing in her notebook âexcessive loyaltyâŠvery dangerousâŠâ
she glances at both of you, then back at her book âto save a friend, youâd sacrifice the worldâ percy looks anywhere but towards you and flushes with embarrassment.
. your mind is going haywire trying to figure out how to get out of this. you contemplate jumping out the window to certain death, but decide against it.
youâre afraid youâre gonna lose the upper hand. knowing a fatal flaw is like knowing somebodyâs deepest darkest secret, thereâs no way you can let anyone, let alone him in there.
circe finishes writing in her notebook and turns to you âokay daughter of zeus, your turn!â percy steps back from the mirror and nudges you toward it.
you pause as you get in front of it, letting out a breath in hopes of easing your rapid heartbeat. memories start flashing before your eyes.
you try to will them a certain way, away from what you know theyâre going toward. it doesnât work.
percy can feel the the hair on the back of his neck stand and watches as your knuckles turn white.
each snippet depicts a moment in which you deflected in order to keep conversations superficial, times youâve kept a distance from even those youâve grown close to.
it highlights moments where you felt completely alone even though people, friends, surrounded you.
when the mirror ends its mental torture, you immediately step away and keep your eyes on the floor. not wanting to see circe nor percyâs expression.
âyou know, iâve never had any children of the big three step on my grounds, let alone a daughter of zeusâŠthis was extremely enlighteningâ you brace yourself to hear what secrets she stole from you.
âyou keep people at a distance and avoid intimate conversationsâŠâ you can hear her writing all of this down âyou seem to dismiss your own feelings, criticizing yourself for things beyond your controlâŠâ she stops writing and you risk a look at her.
âemotional isolation, that is your fatal flawâ
you roll your eyes âokay yeah sure now what are we supposed to do with this informationâ you keep your eyes on circe, not trusting her.
âyou have to confront this fact, which i can already tell will be more difficult for one of you than the otherâ itâs as if sheâs looking into your soul as she says it.
âwell this can wait then, im tiredâ you turn and walk out of her office.
circe watches, âdefensive, i can work with thatâŠacceptance will be a process with her. but youâŠâ she looks at percy and smiles âi can tell youâre already in the midst of your processâ
he gives her a questioning look and goes after you
-
you sit on your bed as hear a knock at the door âgo away if you know whatâs good for you percyâ
he opens your door and walks in, sympathy plaguing his eyes âcome on, i know you donât trust her but we have to pass through the sea of monsters to find grover. focus on thatâ
you look at him, knowing heâs right. you flop back on the bed, turning into the pillow an screaming into it. âfuck this, fuck all of thisâ you get up and start toward the bathroom to splash water on your face
he watches you walk away, knowing youâll come back in a few seconds with a clearer head
your hands find their way to the faucet, not having to think about your actions since your mind is full with other thoughts
on the bright side, the memories didnât show the reason why you wall everyone off.
it didnât show the way your heart beats a little faster when you know percyâs in the room, or how you canât meet his eye unless something is serious enough to get your mind off of the way you feel about him. fuck, you canât do this. not now. matter of fact, not ever.
itâs so annoying, youâve never been good around guys, but somehow it increases ten-fold with percy. you hate it. youâre a demigod for christ sake. built for war. not whatever this is.
you grab a towel to wipe your face, taking one last look in the mirror to make sure youâre not showing any unneeded emotion, then you go back out.
âsorry yeah my bad, im good now. what do you want to do about this?â suddenly the carpet looks extremely interestingâŠ
percy tries to meet your eyes but fails, âfirst, youâre gonna have to let me in a littleâ he starts walking toward you.
donât do anything weird, please. you finally look at him and he gives a small smile, âthere you goâ trying to suppress the blood rushing to your face, you look away again.
âcome on donât patronize meâ you joke, trying to change the subject. âwe have to figure this outâ
âit can wait, i wanna talk to you a littleâ he says sincerely and you brace yourself.
âas much as we probably canât trust circe, the whole âfatal flawâ thing got me thinkingâŠyou really donât trust anyone, do you?â
shit.
you try to clarify âitâs not like that-â
âreallyâŠbecause it seemed like-â
you step closer, trying to stop him from saying something too real âitâs not, i promiseâ
he gives you a look, waiting for you to continue. you take a deep breath.
âitâs not that i donât trust you, any of you. annabeth groverâŠitâs not about trust. i trust you guys with my life, more than iâve ever trusted anyone. itâs justâŠitâs meâ
you accidentally brush his chest while talking animatedly and finally realize how close you both ended up. you go to take a step back and he stops you, lightly grabbing your wrist.
âwhat? you think youâre not strong enough?â
youâre a deer in headlights, damn it.
âi mean, thatâs notâŠtotally wrongâŠi guessâ you look back down at the carpet.
âitâs a lot easier when iâm on my own because i donât have to worry about protecting other people. if i fail im the only one that goes down.â
you look back at him and he seems intent on listening to every word you say. you roll your eyes.
âyouâre really gonna make me say all this?â
he cracks a little smile âthatâs the only way iâll let you goâ he makes a show of keeping your wrist in his grip. âfineâ
you grab his wrist in return and drag him over to sit on the bed. you take another deep breath.
âyes maybe she was right, maybe i distance myself, maybe i let people think they know me when they really donât, maybe i overthink every little thing people say to me trying to figure out if they hate me, maybe, likeâŠdeep deep down, i think i donât deserve any good thing thatâs ever happened to me,â
you try to suppress the anxiety building in your stomach.
âand maybe just maybe, i still can barely make eye content with you because it scares me how much you make me feelâ
âyou know if you hadnât said anything i wouldâve continued thinking you hated meâ okay yeah im done
you try to get up but percy yanks you down âno, no waitâ he says in between laughs âiâm sorry let me be serious about thisâ he forces you to look him in the eye.
âthis is dumb, i donât wanna talk about my feelings, can we go back to arguing or somethingâ you plead.
âi think this is the most iâve ever gotten out of you, i like itâ you glare at him âyou said you were gonna be seriousâ âthis is serious!â you sigh.
his smile fades a bit, âthank you though. i know i didnât give you much of a choice, but truly, thank you for letting me inâ
you respond by putting your forehead on his chest âyeah yeah, now can i sleep? i wasnât lying about being tiredâ you try to sound sarcastic but it comes out dry
instead of responding, percy lets you go and lays down on one side of the bed, ânow that you mention it, iâm pretty tired too. you mind if i crash here? nah? okay thanksâ
you scoff and lay next to him, putting a respectable amount of space in between the both of you âwhateverâ
youâre too tired to think about the position you might end up in later, thatâs a future-you problem.
summary: she just wants to be the bestâŠthatâs allâŠ
a/n: okay this is probably really bad but itâs better than nothingâŠas much as i like writing i suck at making storylines so bare with me as i figure this out, feel free to critique me or give me any ideas for other stories!
the sword slashes against the dummy for the millionth time, you lose your footing from exhaustion. youâve been at this for hours, simply trying to get better.
being at camp half-blood for this long and knowing youâre still not the best takes its toll on the mind. youâve never been especially good at anything, but being a daughter of zeusâ one of the big threeâ you thought maybe this was your chance to find something you excelled in. in reality, you werenât bad at sword fighting by any means. actually, you were extremely good. just not the best.
you take a step back and breathe for a second, about to replant your feet and get back to your workout when you faintly hear somebody calling your name. taking out your earbuds you look over to find luke right behind you. you yelp.
you punch him in the shoulder âholy shit you scared meâ luke just laughs, causing you to feel embarrassed and little annoyed. âyou canât just run up on somebody like that when they have a sword in their handsâ you say, your tone conveying obvious annoyance. âdamn sparky, i know you always lock in when youâre working out but i didnât expect you to not hear me comingâ he replies in between laughs.
you take a step back, suddenly realizing how close you two ended up after smacking him. âwhat do you want, youâre interrupting my me timeâ you quickly switch the subject hoping he doesnât notice how awkward youâre acting. âitâs dinner time, annabeth wouldâve come for you but she told me to go instead because apparently percy was being extra persistent about swimming in the lakeâ he replies, mocking a little at the end âyou know how percy gets at nightâ
you look at the sky, realizing heâs not lying, it is pretty late. âshoot sorry i didnât mean to go so long, i just made a new playlist the other day and i kinda got lost in the rhythmâ you start walking back to the main part of camp, lightly tossing your sword in the air and not looking as it turns back into a bracelet, putting it on your wrist. luke rolls his eyes and catches up with you.
during dinner you sit with annabeth, percy, grover, luke, and a few others from hermes cabin. âi canât believe you actually managed to get in the water before annabeth dragged you outâ grover laughs. when you and luke had gotten to the table you found percy drying himself off. you had given annabeth one of those looks that said âcanât help you there, heâs your boyfriendâ she smiled and rolled her eyes.
when the boys get up to get more food (as men do), annabeth gives you a knowing look. âplease donât start annabeth somebodyâs gonna hear youâ you glance around. âdude i swear youâre the only one who doesnât see itâ she sets down her utensils and looks at looks into your eyes. you respond by looking right back at her âyou guys are all delusional, weâre just friends, yeah heâs kinda cute and has good taste in music but thatâs itâ you whisper, trying to get her to drop the subject before they come back.
out of the corner of your eye you see them making their way back over. you look at annabeth, âlaterâ
luke sits back in his spot next to you while percy and grover sit on both sides of annabeth. theyâre still in conversation about a random event that happened during spring break. percy starts acting it out âiâm telling you, the guy started wrestling me to the ground, i was like, âdude this is a baseball game what are you doingââ
luke and grover laugh and agree percy has to stop playing baseball with adults if he wonât let up ragebaiting them every time they chirp him.
after dinner you say bye to the group and remind annabeth about sparring and getting breakfast in the morning âyou always remind me even though we do this every thursdayâ you smile, knowing sheâs right âand every time i hope you cancel so i can sleep inâ she sighs in mock annoyance and starts walking back to her cabin with percy and grover in tow.
luke stays with you as you both silently agree to take the long way back to cabin 1. he looks at you with curiosity before starting to walk âyou know, i never understand why you do that with annabeth when everyone knows youâre not a morning personâ
you raise your eyebrow, looking at him, âsoldiers donât really get a choice to be morning or night people, i try to force myself up at least a little in hopes that itâll be easier if we ever have an emergencyâ he snorts âthat actually kinda makes sense, a very you thing to doâ
you slow down a little and he takes a second to turn around to look at you âwhatâs that supposed to mean?? donât forget that youâre the guy who owns a pair of flying shoes, iâm not the weird oneâ you joke
he stifles a laugh âno i mean it in a good way, you just have a very set way of doing things and so sometimes when it seems like there are a bunch of different options, for you, thereâs really only oneâ this causes you to roll your eyes âyeah whatever that meansâ
you continue walking, trying to work up the nerve to say something youâve been thinking over for the past week. something annabeth would make fun of you for overthinking.
finally when you get to your cabin, about to walk in, you turn back. âluke, waitâ
he turns back around, curiosity creeping into his eyes âyeah?â you swallow your pride
âtomorrowâŠafter i finish with annabeth⊠could youâŠhelpmewithmyswordfightingtechniqueâŠâ you say quickly, trying not to meet his eyes.
he bursts out laughing âdamn, i thought you were gonna ask me to help you kill somebodyâ he takes a breath, wiping a tear from his eye âyeahâŠyeah of course no problem, iâll meet you there and we can start at 11â
you release a breath you didnât know you were holding âokay thanksâŠgoodnightâ you finally look at him
heâs smiling still, but has a look in his eyes that you canât decipher ânight sparkyâ
and with that you close the door to your cabin, suddenly enveloped in the quiet of night. you immediately walk over to your record player and start your playlist, not liking how quiet it gets in the empty cabin.
lukeâs smile wipes off his face right as the door closes, he curses himself for thinking like an idiot. âno shit she wants help fighting, whyâd i get so happyâ he mutters to himself.
as he starts walking back to his own cabin, percy comes out from behind a tree. âdude you are so down bad holy shit, âyeah yeah of course no problem sweetie pie iâll help you with anything under the sun i love you please love me backââ he mocks
luke just sighs âfuck off man, itâs not like thatâ to this, percy turns around and starts walking backwards to get a better look at luke. âso thereâs this riverâŠâ
getting into the pjo fandom has been a gift and a curse because iâve already consumed every fanfic there is to consume and now im debating on writing some to add to the pileâŠ
