And will you get me one? Pleasee.”

“And leave you all alone in that maze?” Ryder had the audacity to fake an indignant scoff. “I’m appalled that you would think such a thing of me!” He casually threw an arm over her shoulders, taking one more sip before offering her his cup. “I’ll even bet you on it, if you don’t trust me. If I lose you get one wish.”

Leaning nonchalantly against a wall outside the maze, a playful smile rested on Ryder’s lips. He sipped from a suspiciously glowy beverage and when a familiar face came to view, a raised eyebrow could be seen from peaking out from behind the rim of his cup. “Do I dare?” he said, gesturing to the maze, “I think I’d rather dare you. What do you think? Fancy a game of magical hide and seek?”

if there was one thing hogwarts and beauxbatons had in common, it was an extensive supply list. irina was glad, really, it meant they actually did some work — a stark contrast from what they heard in continental europe. she did decide, however, that it would be most prudent to make her purchases in quaint diagon alley before it was too busy with students and company: she never did have a fondness for crowds. nevertheless, the streets were not empty, and when another knocked her standard book of spells to the ground, she had to fight the urge to hex them on the spot (not that she was particularly fond of that book or anything standard). cazzo. “tell me, why do you have eyes for except to watch were you go?”

to say irina was unimpressed with the boys’ open display of distaste would be an understatement. what a wuss. she shrugged and threw three or four into her mouth — and if their taste was anything one shouldn’t be indifferent to, the world would never know. her face remained impassive even as she recited the flavours back at him. “soap, blueberry, dirt and earwax. next time try not to be such a crybaby about it.” only then she smiled.

as the crowd squealed in approval of his unbuttoned shirt, celeste all but doubled over in laughter. “ten galleons and a sickle!” she raised her wand, ready to continue betting against the now more aggressive crowd. “ryder, tell us what kind of date you want to take us on–” cel piped up before another bidder chimed in once again doubling her bet. “yah! fifty galleons…” she leaned around, almost daring someone to try and out bid her but it seemed her competitiveness was enough to kill out most of the competition.

“i can’t very much tell you all my secrets, right? but I can promise you adventure, you could say i’m an adrenaline junkie. or perhaps just out of my mind.” he winked at the audience, “some mystery left is a good thing, celeste.” he forced out her name in a smothered tone, begging for her to stop teasing while promising retribution. after all, if she did win, he would have an entire night for payback. when no one outbid her, ryder sighed deeply, but he was still wary. “i’m honestly not sure if i should be relieved.” he whispered, “but i’m definitely looking forward to our date, darling.” he gave her a wicked smile before waving at the crowd and leaving the stage, headed towards the place he last saw lily and jane.

celeste was bored to say the least. sure an excuse to wear pretty dresses was always a good one but her brain was numb from all the boasting. in reality, no one gave a shit if they donated five dollars or five thousand – well she certainly didn’t. she’d left her father behind long ago, already bothered by heels she had to wear and the tightness of the gown her mother picked out. the only good thing she found in this overdressed cafeteria was the date auction – and by good thing she means entertaining. dark brown eyes lit up at the name Mr. Ryder Bellamy followed by stats that she could care less about. a cheeky grin spread across scarlet lips as she walked right up to the stage, wand raised, meeting only his eyes. “two galleons.” a giggle left her finding the situation all too hilarious, she raised her wand once again raising the price inch by inch depsite having no interest in actually winning. “four galleons.”

he rolled his eyes at her. “four galleons, really?” the moment he saw that smile he knew it meant danger. for a moment, ryder considered if he wasn’t better off with one of the girls his mother wanted him to meet. he reckoned he probably would, but if celeste ended up winning he wouldn’t be half as bored, at least. “i’m worth more than that, diggory.” he opened his shirt, but when the price doubled, he started to get anxious. “fuck.”

his elegant black suit could probably conceal his distate for the entire event, but the grimace marring his face was very telling — ryder hated galas in general and, above that, he hated his current predicament. standing on that stage as an elegantly dressed woman called his name for the auction, he couldn’t help but curse his mother’s name — and that of her friends, who convinced her that this was a good idea. ryder gave the audience a bright smile as he stepped forward, while in his head that was the moment of his execution: the first two bidders raised their wands, but his eyes were fixed on familiar ones as he inevitably waited for disaster.

the clinking sound of champgne glasses and the chatter of apathetic voices reminded ryder of the reason he hated these galas so much. as it was, however, he was making an exception. he was there, after all — for charity. ryder had to admit that annie’s constant presence by his side dulled his disinclinations, but that didn’t stop him from rolling his eyes for what felt like the thousandth time that night. “gladly. the longer i can dodge my mother and all the dancing with prospective wives she intends me to do, the happier i am.”
