Welcome home, brother
arbiterofdawn:
Each and every one of Belial’s words were like a stake being driven into Lucifer’s heart. The genuine smiles, the kindness–all things that Lucifer had yearned for, and all things which had been a lie in the end.
I would never betray my brother, he had said.
And yet you did.
You lied to me. You betrayed me.
Belial had always known exactly what to say to reassure him and comfort him. And he knew exactly what to say to make it hurt most.
But rather than anger, it was pain that Lucifer felt, pain that he had buried for hundreds and thousands of years that had continued to fester in the deepest, darkest reaches of his heart; a wound left untreated and infected. He had lost so much after the rebellion–his creator, his solace…
And the person he had considered his best friend, his brother.
This time, he couldn’t stop that pain from showing on his visage. How unfortunate, that even after thousands of years, Lucifer was still predisposed to baring his heart around Belial.
“I can’t…”
He didn’t take the hand offered to him.
“Why do you do this? I know how you truly feel about me, Belial.”
His expression was on the verge of crumbling.
“Why…?”
Why do you continue to hurt me?
He lowers his hand slowly, not necessarily sadly observing the other carefully.
He was still cautious? Well that was fine, those cuts were pretty deep and at the end of the day he had been the supreme primarch for more than two thousand years.
It’s not as if he thought he was a complete idiot.
Still, he knows he’s not as good in some ways versus others and that’s all that counts. A small tilt of his head to the side, confusion, he takes a step forward towards the other. Right, how many other primarchs had seen Lucifer like this? Had Lucilius even seen his greatest creation in this state? “How I truly feel . . .?”
No, he probably wouldn’t even believe it if the archangel told him. Not that he ever would tell their benevolent creator. Lucilius might think it was a problem that needed fixing, then he’d ruin the only fun thing about little Luci.
So another step forward, he’s right next to them now- he’s still quick, he brings his arms around, not harshly, gently, for an embrace. He knows exactly how they used to be held, the few moments of emotion that Lucifer would let slip through, unsure of his path. It had always been Belial’s job to make sure he didn’t stray, else he might’ve caught onto . . . Well, everything else.
He doesn’t say any words at first. It’s almost reminiscent of a time long past once again. Up in the Astral laboratories, on quiet nights when there had been no missions left to hand no, no enemies for them to fight, playing some simple skydweller game.
“Lucifer . . . I don’t think you could understand how I truly feel.”
He could make himself sound sad if he truly wished too, but there was no point. If anything it might just alert the other to the simple ruse. His embrace tightens a little a deep sigh.
“We were made of different things- literally.”
A small laugh, a hand in the ex-supreme’s hair. His voice is quiet, even though there’s no one else around to hear it in the first place, a whisper.
“There’s no way you could understand, how much you disgust me.”
