Mia Healing Masterpost
Where I plan on storing all my posts about Mia's psychopathology analysis, getting therapy/healing, etc. Will update as I go!
What meds are we putting Mia on?
One by one, the mourners leave, as the last rays of red sun filter out into the crisp emptiness of an autumn night. A young woman remains, hunched over herself, cradling her candle to her chest like something precious she is reluctant to abandon.
Her hair, short and honey-blond, stretches back into a tight ponytail from which loose strands, too short to hold into the hair-band, keep escaping. At intervals, her hand snaps to pull them back behind her ears, the movement rigid and reflective, as though batting away a fly. The collar of her jacket, a large, padded jet black thing that seems to swallow her shape, flaps in the cold breeze like the wings of a carrion bird. She seems young, twenty at the very most.
Milly approaches her before she realises she's doing so, hand outstretched as if to say something -do something to make it better -what a silly thought. This isn't the first time she's done something like this lately- not even the first time today. Last year was difficult for everyone, and for the inhabitants of Star City, today is a day of remembrance. Milly is angry, and sad, and tired of being on her feet all day. But the woman curls around herself like a rolly polly, and everybody else is gone, and this is a memorial for murdered highschoolers. So Milly swallows her spit and walks up to the candlelight.
Her presence goes acknowledge, not in sound nor movement but in the flickering of sharp eyes like a bowstring snapping back. They're wide, deep pools of dark honey that melt golden in the candlelight, pierced at the center by two pulsating drops of ink.
"I'm sorry for your loss", she says, just to say something, to not leave her alone with her thoughts.
"My loss", she repeats, voice slow and empty like she's testing the words out. Slowly, she extends a hand in the dancing shadows cast by the candles, considers it. It's calloused, the fingernails trimmed almost too close to the flesh, the ghost of a bruise still lingering on her knuckes.
"Yes, I'm so sorry. I can't imagine..."
The young woman hums, perhaps in agreement, perhaps because it is polite to respond.
"Were you close?"
"Some of them... Not as much as I... Well, you know how it is. Classmates an' all that."
She scrunches her nose, points at one of the pictures with a trembling finger.
"That one was a real jerk though. Like a human parakeet. Not gonna miss him much."
Another picture, the movement of something across her face, too fast for the eye to catch.
"I really liked that teacher though, she was nice. She always let us watch movies."
This teacher was one of the first people to be killed, if her memory serves right. So young, and to witness such senseless violence... She wonders how many people she saw die, before she could even graduate.
"Fucking costumed freaks", she spits out. Unexpectedly, the woman snorts.
"It's getting late, lady. You waiting for someone to pick you up ?"
Milly is the one who should be asking this question -it's not safe, out there, and the woman is so young...
"I'm okay, I got my car right by. Are you- nevermind. Do you need help?"
"What?"
"Do you need help to put it with the others?"
The question is absurd, really -the candle is light as a feather, flame high and steady, and the installation is nothing complicated -there's a little slot, right at arm's length, where she can put it in. But it is getting late, and she'll have to leave soon, and she doesn't want the woman to still be there when the rising wind blows her little fire out.
Do you need help letting go?
The woman turns, pressing the candle against her chest, weighs onto her those gleaming eyes. A hairstrand falls across her face like cracked crystal over a reflection- then another, and another one. The little ponytail is barely hanging on. She doesn't pull them back.
"No, thanks lady. You go home before you catch yourself a cold. I think I've got it figured out."
Milly swallows, looks for anything she can say to prolongate the conversation after such clear dismissal, to not leave her alone there- she finds none.
"Alright there", she mutters, fretting with the buttons of her coat, "you take care, then, lovey. Don't go catching something bad yourself staying late."
She doesn't say anything.
Milly drives away then, slowly, throwing glances in the rearview mirror at the dark silhouette standing in the flickering light.
The car takes a turn into another street. The woman disappears from her sight.
Concept for a Mia cover art for Mia day!!!

ONE WEEK LEFT FOR MIA'S DAY
For those who might do better with some direction, here are some prompts you can take inspiration from!
It's not all about fic! Draw Mia in a what-if scenario that you always wanted to; maybe do a costume swap with another character, or put her in a disguise. Make a playlist of songs you think Mia would like, or talk to us about a specific issue she appears in you think is underdiscussed.
How about starting with something seasonal, to welcome autumn in? It's a bit too early, but let's be real, tumblr often starts Halloween-posting as early as August, if not more. Tell us about how you imagine Mia's first Halloween with Oliver & co, write about a spooky case she went at solo, make some appropriately themed edits. Go wild.
Let's get a bit creative for this one! Post things in formats you haven't tried before: web weaving, drabbles of exactly 100 words, interactive fiction, crafts, etc.
Visit this word generator, ask for as many words as you like, and see if it sparks something.
Assorted dialogue prompts + unsettling dialogue prompts + three word prompts + nightmare prompts, to get you going.
As a suggestion, put your playlist on shuffle, and write a ficlet about Mia based on the first song that comes up.
And much more! Feel free to add suggestion for your fellow Mia fans on the post.

Okay so everything sucks really bad right now and I still don't know how to block people on this blog. None of this would have happened if I knew blocks didn't transfer between blogs. Tbh, I think I might stay away from here for a while, which feels really unfair, but also I feel like shit rn and I don't want anything like that to happen again, I feel like everything is out of control and I don't know how to fix this. This feels particularly unfair because I have an ask I was about to answer and a long meta post I was working on about my interpretation of Mia's relationship with victimhood, which definitely would have clarified why I had some of those headcanons, and instead of even getting the opportunity to do that, unfair assumptions were made about me and someone else got hurt in the process and I just. Really don't know what to do. I created this blog to have a space dedicated to this character that's so important to me because I love her and she's underrated so I wanted more people to know about her and love her the way I do- and I don't want to delete the blog/ stop engaging with her and talking about her when she doesn't get nearly enough recognition already, but also I don't know how to keep doing that in a way that feels safe rn. So idk what i'll do.
after 38 chapters she's finally in action (screaming rn)
Mia-centric issue where she has to hold up the roof of a crumbling building. Very important to me as a post "The Away Game" story about Mia dealing with the events of Heading Into The Light. The Samson metaphor is right there. I wanna see Mia visiting the memorial at night and putting her own candle once everyone else is gone. Mia tying her hair for the first time. Mia hanging out with z couple of friends at the mall when something gets damaged structurally and supporting the structure long enough for her friends to escape before she books it just in time before the building would have crumbled on her.
the arrowfam is so precious to me 💔
Anyway so I said "self-indulgent Mia arrowfam slowburn adoption highschool genfic", please allow me to elaborate on that
So this is the kind of very indulgent rescue and adopt slowburn fantasy I would eat up as a teen. Basically after running away from her father and living on the streets Mia ends up with Jake, and tries to convince herself it's good because she has a roof and food and can go to school. Ollie is the chill, unusual highschool philosophy teacher and Mia is the student at the back of the class that's smart and invested but also snarky and cynic and they tend to have like animated debates and he's her favourite teacher though she pretends not to and he's getting worried because he can see signs that something wrong is going on.
Connor is Ollie's adult son who lives alone in Star but comes to the manor every week for family as they've only just found out about eachother. He works at the local library on weekends, where Mia likes to go to get out of the flat and study. He ends up helping with her literature homework and getting attached as well.
Roy is a freelance engineer and single father with a sometimes timetable due to the odd jobs he takes and ends up taking a wrong turn late in Star due to lack of sleep and meets Mia, who's obviously fifteen, when she's working him. Roy is obviously very concerned and tries to convince her she has options and gives her the number of the youth shelter ollie volunteers at.
Anyway all three of them are separately very concerned for Mia, I'm not sure yet how Dinah fits in all of this aside that she's awesome but trust that she's here, and eventually Jake attacks Mia and she breaks his hand like in canon but she's hurt and goes to the youth shelter and Ollie finds her and offers to take her in until they find a better solution and she ends up staying with them and learning ways of interacting with adult men that don't include sexual and/or romantic relationships, feeling safe enough to be a kid, coming to terms with her diagnosis and just generally getting slow-burn adopted
steph: yeah keeping vigilante life separate from my real life can get hard sometimes :/ i have to balance school and being batgirl, plus im keeping it a secret from my mom so its even harder :(
mia, writing a resume with "speedy" under past work and "vigilantism" under special skills: yeah that sounds like it sucks i guess

Fake comic cover of the speedy solo that exists in my most wishful thoughts! Based on this post by @academia-dearden :3
i could say a lot about how dc got exponentially worse with the oversexualization of their female (and especially teenaged) characters in the new52 but i think the pics of mia dearden pre-reboot and post-reboot speak for themselves
“Don’t do that, it will explode!” is a very dangerous thing to say to someone who used to do science shows!
