The Ravenclaw common room is located high up within a tower and known for its panoramic views of the school grounds. It is a large circular room filled with bookcases and blue furnishings. It is also one of the only common rooms to feature a statue of their house founder. The entrance requires no password but the solving of a riddle asked by a bronze eagle knocker. Incorrect answers result in having to wait outside for someone else to answer their riddle successfully. Once inside you can sit under the impressive starry domed ceiling and listen to the relaxing sounds of the wind whistling around the exterior of the tower windows.

Watching as Tabitha took the joint and the lighter, Teddy let the sweet smell of marijuana smoke fill his nose, and he instantaneously relaxed, taking another swig of the bitterly burning scotch. It was like tasting a little bit of home- not that his parents ever let him near a bottle of scotch, but he’d become an expert at sneaking them when he wanted to.  

"Oh, wow, your brother. That’s gotta be so nice." Ted wished he had an older brother, or sister, or a younger sibling at all. Being an only child wasn’t exactly easy for someone who thrived off of being in groups- sure, he was okay with being alone, but he wasn’t very good at it, nor did he enjoy it much. It was why he was so close with his parents, and why he’d written letters to his Hogwarts friends almost every day during the summer.

"Don’t apologize," he said with a smile, reaching out and taking the blunt from Tabby’s hands. A slow, deep inhale filled his lungs with the aromatic smoke, and he held his breath for a few moments before exhaling a large cloud of it. "You need to get things off your chest. I get it. Rant and ramble all you want, Tabby Cat. S’why I’m here, mmkay?" He reached out and mussed her hair playfully before handing her the scotch. "And for the record, I think you’d make an amazing Auror."

"It's nice t'have him back 'round. He's been livin' with m'dad while he's been trainin', so I've rarely seen him. M'dad's been livin' in Cardiff recently and tha's actually pretty far from Holyhead. I mean, much as I love Cardiff, Holyhead's much nicer. I like the beaches more than the city, I guess," Tabitha said, shrugging as she grabbed the bottle of scotch from Teddy. She grinned at him and took a swig of the alcohol, her grin turning into a small, pleased smile. The burn mixed with the smoke in her throat felt amazing.

When Ted said she'd make a great Auror, she turned back to him and just grinned. "You've no idea how much tha' means t'me Ted. Everyone assumes 'm gonna go into some ridiculous Ravenclaw job tha' involves writin' or researchin' an' as much as I love all'a tha' stuff, I wanna be a part of this. I wanna be a part of the solution t'such a big problem. M'brother's already in on it, and I've been itchin' t'be a part of it since. I wanna make a change, Teddy, ya know? I need to make a change."

A heavy sigh left her as she reached for the blunt. "This whole fuckin' thing is jus' shite, Teddy. Pisses me off tha' a whole group of people look down on m'friends just 'cause they weren't born into a completely magical family. They're so bigoted and it would be hilarious if there weren't such real consequences. Someone's gotta stand up for this cause, and 'm gonna be one of those people, Teddy. 'M gonna be and no one can stop me from doin' it."

Ted couldn’t help but blurt out a ridiculous laugh as Tabitha called him out (and quite accurately so, though he wasn’t about to admit that) on his lack of sexual prowess. It was with very few people that such a joke would come off as mere jest rather than attempted insult, and Tabbycat was one of those people. And after a long day, he needed that kind of company. Especially when he added in booze and grass.

"Oh, wow," the boy remarked, the breeze of the evening chilling his face and neck as they made their way outside. Tightening his scarf a bit, he aimlessly meandered over to their shady spot, hanging onto Tabby’s every word. "M’sorry to hear all that, Tabbycat. Really. Gotta be rough, and I’m sorry I couldn’t come visit or anything of the sort. If I’d know, I’d have gotten on the next train."

Taking a seat below the leaves of the lakeside tree, Ted reached into his bag, handing the bottle of scotch to Tabby as he worked on the marijuana and wrapping papers. He was an expert joint-roller by now, but he wanted to fit as much weed as he could in this first one- Tabitha clearly needed the escape. “Not much in my life, really,” he lied, leaving out the note he’d received, the nightmares, escaping to Doe’s bed on many a night. He wasn’t ready to share that just yet, not when he didn’t know who was sending him the notes. Eventually, he’d confide in Tabitha about it. 

"I s’pose all I’ve got going on is with my hand, as you so bluntly pointed out," he joked as he licked the joint shut and reached for the lighter he kept tucked in his pants pocket. "But really, my summer was quiet. Spent a lot of time listening to my mum’s newfound love of playing the ukulele and convincing my dad that we don’t actually feel the pain of the animal we’re eating if we eat meat. Lost that battle and ate a lot of vegetables and tofu. Wrote you, and Doe, and Alice, and Ames quite a lot just because Muggle life, as nice as it is to be isolated from magic, gets boring real fast." He handed the lighter and joint to Tabitha with a grin. "Ladies first," he offered, snagging back the scotch and taking a long swig.

Tabitha hated telling people things about her because it usually ended in people apologising about it all, but for some reason, it was nice to hear Teddy to say it. He wasn't giving her pity and he wasn't just saying it because he wanted to -- it was obvious in his tone that he was genuinely sorry that all of that had conspired over the summer. It was a nice change from the usual treatment that Tabitha was used to, and she was constantly reminded why she loved being in Teddy's company. He was just a nice guy who actually cared about her, and she could use that, especially after all of the stuff she had been through recently.

He pulled out the bottle of scotch and she grinned as he handed it to her. She examined the bottle carefully and just nodded happily. Her house was full of only magical liquor, so having Muggle liquor was always fun. While he talked about his quiet summer, Tabitha took a swig of the scotch and smiled lightly as it burned at her throat. That faint alcohol burn was one of the feelings that Tabitha lived for. It reminded her that everything was temporary and that things change eventually, which were definitely lessons Tabitha could learn. She nodded along to his story and watched as he rolled up the first joint. The anticipation of feeling that hazy high built in her as she took one final swig of the scotch. He snatched it back and traded it for the blunt.

She flicked the lighter and lit the joint up, waiting to make sure that it lit properly. Tabitha wasn't even worried about people seeing her smoke at this point. She took in a deep drag and smiled as she felt the smoke fill her. "Hey, quiet summers are nice," she said finally, already feeling a slight buzz from the scotch. "I'd kill for a quiet summer after the last few I've had. I miss 'em. Ever since m'parents got divorced, s'all been too much action every summer. First there was the divorce, then my brother moved away, and now m'dad is. One good thing to come of this is tha' m'brother Derek is movin' back in with Mum an' I. We gotta spent a lot of the summer t'gether while he was in Auror trainin'.

"Speakin' of Auror trainin', 'm thinkin' of goin' out for it when I graduate. Think it'd be right fun t'be an Auror, 'specially now when there's a real threat. Okay, maybe fun isn't the right word, but ya know wha' I mean, yeah? It'd be an interestin' job, certainly nothin' too borin'. Which, ya know, borin' jobs would just kill me. So, yeah, I think bein' an Auror'll fit me jus' fine," Tabitha rambled, grinning over at Teddy as she took another drag off the blunt. "Sorry for ramblin'," she muttered, a light blush appearing on her cheeks.

The panting grew softer and softer as Ted stood up straight again, leaning against the wall as Tabby laughed at him. He would have laughed at himself, too, to be honest. The sight of all six feet of him, lanky and uncoordinated, running down the halls? Definitely a sight to take in and chuckle at. “Hey, don’t judge. I may not lift weights or throw a ball around, but my bed has seen quite enough exercise, let me tell you.” He nodded to back up the mostly untrue statement- unless his relationship with his hand counted, there was no action to speak of.

"The lake’s my favourite, you know that," he said with a wink, turning down the hall and heading for the entrance that led out to the tree Tabitha spoke of. He had his scarf and a sweater on, he figured he’d be warm enough for now, or at least, until the alcohol and drugs kicked in to warm him up a bit more. 

"So, it’s been far too long," he said, looking behind him to make sure the girl followed. "Tell me all about life for Tabby Lance, hmm? And don’t skip the gory details."

"Oh, 'm sure all of tha' hand tossin' is exercisin' ya jus' fine, Teddy," Tabitha said, a giggle escaping her. She and Teddy were always joking when they were around each other. It was one of the many things she loved about being around him. Tabitha shrugged and smiled. "Of course I know it's your favourite. It's mine, too," she said, heading off with him towards the lake.

"There are plenty of gory details. Life's been pretty interestin' recently, Ted," Tabitha said. Almost immediately the happy air about them fell away and was replaced with tension. Tabitha's summer had been interesting, to say the least. "M'dad's movin' t'America," she started off, sighing heavily. "'M bein' reminded every day of some massive mistake I made last year and the whole world feels like it's crashin' down on me. S'kinda why I've been itchin' t'get some shit in me as soon as possible. Need to forget all the shite I've been through recently, y'know?" Tabitha asked, turning to look at him for just a moment. "But, back t'my dad. He's found some new girl, apparently. I've no idea who the bint is, but I've heard she's quite younger 'an him. I don't know, I feel kinda betrayed by all'a this.

"I can't really explain how I feel 'bout all'a this shite tha's happened t'me other 'an I feel like absolute shite, I guess. S'all bollocks, Teddy, all'a it is." Tabitha heaved a sigh as they came up on the tree. "Anyway, what's been happenin' in the life'a Ted Tonks? 'M hopin' your summer was much better 'an mine," she said, nodding lightly. If there was anything Tabitha wanted out of this conversation, it was knowing that Teddy had a good summer. With hers being absolute shit, she wanted nothing more than to hear one of her friends had a good time.

Let's do a weird headcanon thing

1. What they smell like: Tabitha smells like a mixture of lavender and vanilla at any given time, except for winter. During the winter she smells more like sugar cookies or gingerbread. With winter being her favourite season, she takes every chance to be stereotypical about loving the season.

2. How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc) She sleeps on her side clutching a pillow. Tabitha can't sleep properly without at least a few pillows on her bed. Whenever she sits down to go to bed it can take her hours to finally pass out. After the last couple years, she's definitely developed insomnia. In order to get to sleep well she reads books to calm her mind.

3. What music they enjoy: Having grown up in a pureblood household, most of the music that Tabitha has been exposed to his magical music. But she can say this much: she despises Celestina Warbeck. The magical world adores the singer and growing up in magical Wales, there was even more appreciation of her. Tabitha is more partial towards wizard rock (wrock).

4. How much time they spend getting ready every morning: Tabitha takes a few minutes to brush her hair and pull her robes on, and then she's basically tripping out the door since she almost always wakes up late. If she's going to a Hogsmeade weekend she'll take longer in order to do her makeup.

5. Their favorite thing to collect: Chocolate frog cards. It may be cliché, but Tabitha loves chocolate frog cards and does everything she can to get all of them.

6. Left or right-handed: Tabitha, like her mother, is left-handed. It's a big part of her identity.

7. Religion (if any): Tabitha was never raised with a religion but most of her childhood Muggle friends went to church and she's incorporated some of their Christian Bible into her life.

8. Favorite sport: Quidditch, without a doubt. She's been playing it since she was a child with all of her friends at Charms School. And now that's she's on the Ravenclaw team, she has no time for other sports.

9. Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling: Trying new food and taking lots and lots of pictures. Tabitha fancies herself as some sort of expert photographer.

10. Favorite kind of weather: Rain is Tabitha's favourite weather. She grew up in a beach town, so she was often acquainted with stormy weather.

11. A weird/obscure fear they have: Ever since she was a child, Tabitha has been terrified of drowning. She's a fine swimmer and loves the ocean, but she's always terrified of somehow forgetting how to swim and just drowning. She can't explain it and that's what's most terrifying to her.

Ted’s grin continued to grow as Tabitha agreed to join him for his little relaxation session. It’d been far too long since they’d last spent time together, and Tabby was one of the most fun people he knew. Drinking and smoking alone got boring after a while, anyways. With Tabs, well, he was guaranteed a good time- no bore whatsoever.

"You know I do," he said proudly, thinking of the alcohol and weed he’d stashed in his locked trunk upstairs. He made an effort to always bring some Muggle wares back from home, from the world he’d grown up in- he’d never quite adjusted to the magical equivalents, and he didn’t intend to. He’d always have a foot in the non-magic world, and he might as well make use of that. 

"Well, don’t worry your pretty face, because I can be down in two with t the stuff you’ve been craving all summer," he promised. "Don’t go anywhere." Dashing toward the entryway to his common room, he ran uncharacteristically fast up the stairs, nearly bowling over a few younger students. The bottle and baggie were carefully wrapped, so after removing his books and tossing them haphazardly on his bed, he took the items and the shirt they were cushioned in and carefully tucked them into his bag before bolting back toward the main halls.

"Done and done," he said, putting his hands on his knees and panting to catch his breath. He definitely wasn’t the athletic type, and that run had tired him out. "Where to now, Tabbycat?"

"Like I'd go anywhere when tha' sorta shit's on the way," she said, laughing. Tabitha watched as Ted raced up the stairs, nearly mowing over a few first years. She did her best to mask her laughter, but it was to no avail. Ted didn't usually run like that, and it was hilarious to watch him try to keep his footing as he dashed around the corner towards the Hufflepuff common room. She shook her head with a grin as she waited for him and she let her mind roam. First, Tabitha thought of how much she genuinely missed Ted. They weren't the sort of friends who needed to speak every day to keep a good line of communication going. They'd exchange they occasional owl over the summer, just to find out how each other was doing, but that was about as far as it went. Once school started, however, they were old chums again. There was something intriguing about Ted's Muggle upbringing that drew Tabitha to him, having grown up in a pureblood household herself.

After a few minutes, Ted came roaring around the corner again. His cheeks were red and he was breathing heavily. Again, Tabitha tried to mask her laugh, but after a moment it escaped. "You've really gotta work out more, Teddy," she commented, grinning to herself. Being a Quidditch player, Tabitha was fairly athletic, and watching other students out of breath from running around the castle was actually hilarious to her. Her eyes roamed to his bag where she knew his stash was, and a mischievous glint appeared in her eyes. It had been so long since she had something to kickstart some fun. Over the summer all she got to do was sneak a few sips from her mother's cabinet, and that wasn't nearly enough for the Ravenclaw.

"Hm, where to indeed, Teddybear," Tabitha said, shifting her weight from foot to foot. "We could always go out towards the lake. I do like lazin' under tha' tree out there. Since it's already chilly out, I doubt many people will be there t'bug us. Sound like a plan, mate?" she said, turning to smile at him. It had been so long since she had lazed by the lake with some good spliff and booze. It was her favourite way to relax after studying for her OWLs, and going back there seemed like a dream come true.

"Finally," Ted breathed as Binns announced class was over. History of Magic was his absolute least favourite, and he had spent the entire hour daydreaming happily of the peppermint schnapps and prime weed that were stashed in his bedroom. When Binns had called on him, asking him if he was present, he was pretty sure he’d mumbled "Hufflepuff" instead of "yes". But it was over, and he was free. 

He gathered his books and shoved them carelessly into his bag, nodding to his seatmates before bolting. He knew he really shouldn’t be running down the halls, but he was just so desperate to get to his room and forget about the world for the rest of the night. And sure enough, he bumped into someone. Judging by the voice, a girl…

Ted looked down to apologize and his eyes met those of Tabitha Lance. “Tabbycat,” he cooed, his apologetic look breaking into a goofy grin. “No worries, love, I wasn’t exactly bein’ too careful myself. A bit excited that classes are over and I can just relax!” And actually, as he thought about it, Tabby was the kind of girl who was usually down to join him. Ted eyed the portrait entry to his common room, just a few steps away, and then turned back to Tabitha. “Care to join? I just need to run to my room to swap my books out for some, erm, fun things.”

As it turned out, Tabitha didn't even need to convince Ted to share his stash with her. It seemed whatever Tabitha had her on mind was also on Ted's, something she was actually grateful for. A grin broke out across her face and she nodded politely. "I would love t'join ya for some fun things, Teddybear," she said, her grin turning into something slightly mischievous. It had been a long while since Ted and Tabitha had relaxed properly, and the two of them were the kind who enjoyed relaxing together. There was something nice about sharing a bottle of alcohol or a join -- or hopefully both -- with someone whose company you enjoyed to soothe the soul.

"'M guessin' you've got tha' brill Muggle shit, yeah?" Tabitha asked. Sure, magical alcohol and drugs were fantastic, but there was something about Muggle alcohol and drugs that just so different. Maybe because it was made a world away from Tabitha, but it was definitely interesting to her, and she couldn't help but like it. "All I've had over the summer was wha'ever magical shit I could sneak from m'mum. And lemme tell ya, Ted, tha's not the easiest task. The fact tha' I even got a single sip is quite the accomplishment. M'mother's a careful when it comes t'her stores. Wants t'make sure her kid isn't some sorta delinquent," Tabitha said, laughing lightly and shrugging.
