A little self-introduction:

Hello! My name’s May. I’m from the Southeast Asian region. Used to move around a lot because of my dad’s job so I started learning English when I was young. I have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, majoring in International Relations and a Master's degree in Arts, majoring in Politics, Media and Performance.

I only recently got back into anime/manga when I stumbled upon Violet Evergarden on Netflix. Before this some of my previous fandoms that shaped my fandom experiences were: Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Friends, Battlestar Galactica, The Good Place, Parks and Recreation, Person of Interest, Psych, Once Upon A Time and DC Comics/Wonder Woman. I was also into figure skating/ice dance for a while.

My current favourite form of media is anime/manga. I feel like I connect with the stories/characters told in these forms more. I also want to get back into reading novels to improve my vocabulary, grammar and writing skills. My inspiration is to write good meta/analyses posts about my favourite series and characters!

As you can probably tell: I love over-analyzing my favourite media! I love analyzing a story and its themes. Same goes for the characters. I love digging deep into the characters’ psyche, follow their character development and their relationships with other characters. I enjoy shipping but it is not usually my main focus.

This was a wonderful scene that gave us a lot of insight into Gujou's character. The way she's talking about art here can also refer to her understanding of love and how she doesn't confront those feelings directly (as we've seen in the way she acts with Ibuki). It's just brilliant character-writing!

I was drawn to her character from the very first episode and her unrequited love for Ibuki breaks my heart. Her struggles with understanding the meaning of love stood out to me. I hope she be able to move forward with Chin-Lan

I know that Twilight/Loid has been getting hate for a while now but I think it’s gotten worse with the recent arcs. From my perspective, people’s expectations of him is quite different from Endo-sensei’s intentions for him so this is probably one factor for the dissatisfaction with his character development.

I think it’s important to understand Twilight’s intentions behind using the tranquilizer in this arc. I actually don’t think it’s as bad as when he impersonated Curtis to bait Yor into revealing that she knew about Yuri’s job in the SSS. The tranquilizer was his last resort after going through multiple options. If it turns out that Yor actually recognized Curtis, it would not only put him at risk but also put Yor and Anya’s life at risk too. Ultimately, the decision to get Yor out of the party was the safest option for all of them even if it was with an extreme action on Twilight’s part.

However, I do find it contradictory that some fans hated Twilight’s decision to use the tranquilizer on Yor while also wanting Twiyor to kiss and even consummate their relationship. In my opinion, if Twiyor actually kissed, it would actually be more harmful to Yor in the long run. Because even if we know he has genuine feelings for Yor, she would still be led on by a lie. How can Yor believe anything Loid says or does if everything she currently knows about him is a lie? She would probably feel used too.

I’ve also seen people say that Twilight didn’t get to face any consequences for his actions but him being in the midst of SSS agents including Curtis and having the risk of Yor remembering her encounter with him IS the consequence. Like the guy was so stressed that he’s getting constant stomach pain and ended up fainting due to extreme stress and exhaustion again. He definitely faced consequences here.

My unpopular opinion of the day is that many fans need to take off their fanon-coloured glasses off and not get mad when characters act differently from your fanon interpretation of them in the actual story.

MORE SPY x FAMILY MANGA SPOILERS!!

I don’t get the Loid hate lately. For always thinking about the mission and prioritizing the mission. Thus he’s a heartless jerk?

For starters, he’s fucking Twilight. He’s been this way for over 10 years and he’s been on his own for over 20. This way of thinking is drilled into his very being and it’s going to take a lot of re-wiring to undo the way his brain works.

We can’t forget, to Twilight, a threat to his mission is a threat to the whole world. Twilight compromised = war. An imperfect Twilight means the people he now cares about will be in danger.

And we’re not always in his head. We don’t know his thoughts when he’s alone, when he can’t sleep, where the threads of his thoughts go. But anyway, he doesn’t just think about the mission. That’s so clearly a red-herring imo.

But beyond that…

You guys, this is INSANE.

Yuri is right. His actions convey how he really feels, who/what he’s really thinking about, and who/what he’s actually prioritizing. His actions, his instincts, are not a lie. They CANNOT lie. It’s so obvious, even Yuri can see it. It’s so obvious, it’s painful. It’s so obvious, it’s making him physically ill.

And here he is, apparently questioning Yor again. But he’s not, he’s questioning himself. His actions, his feelings. He’s the one who is different. He’s the one who jeopardized the mission by stepping in front of Yor when someone pointed a gun at her. He was so panicked Yor was going to learn the truth, he fucking tranqed her at a pizza party surrounded by the SSS. His actions aren’t lining up with how he should be acting. And Yor is the cause. Not for who she is or what she’s done, but how she makes him feel and what she makes him do. She’s still throwing him off balance, thus threatening not only the mission, but every thing he once thought he knew about himself. How he thinks, what he does, and what his priorities are.

Anya has just as much of a wildcard personality as Yor does. But he never questions if Anya is helping or hurting the mission the way he does with Yor. Because it’s not just about Yor. It’s about him. It’s about what he feels for Yor. To him, his feelings for Anya are probably just as scary, but at least they’re understandable. Yor does stuff like this and it sends him reeling. And then he starts those ponderings about the mission again.

If he were “perfect”, the mission would actually be the only thing on his mind. He wouldn’t be doing stupid shit like risking his life for his wife or drugging her just to leave a party. But he isn’t “perfect,” he’s so far off the deep end at this point he looks like this right now.
