I realize this is just like any other photo of politicians and I'm not going to pretend I know the context but just by looking at it; Abbott couldn't look more like a malevolent puppet master.

I find it really odd when people (especially conservative types) get all up in arms about supermarkets and fast food outlets offering halal and kosher options as well as other types of produce. We live in a free-market capitalist society that conservative leaning voters tend to champion anytime they can but when a supermarket offers options to expand their customer base and revenue its suddenly not on. What's with that?
This article is beyond stupid. "She has sex for a living FOR SHAME." Off your high-horse Soraiya Fuda. Writing like that you're obviously a media whore.
Source: http://www.travelweekly.com.au/agent-zone/frontline/take-a-break/the-carbon-tax-explained
I've seen/heard the carbon tax described as "communist style wealth redistribution" from many a right wing pundit and everyday liberal party supporters. While they technically aren't incorrect in that wealth generated by high pollution companies will be redistributed through this tax system, as far as I can see as your everyday citizen (I'm by no means an expert on economics) this is a system more aligned with trickle-down economics than communist style distribution.
Companies get taxed as per their pollution output, that tax goes back into the economy via direct household offsets and through creating more jobs and generating wealth through exploration of new industry possibilities in clean energy markets. The wealth generated by these high polluting companies is, in a sense, redistributed but most households and individuals benefit from that trickle of capital.
Unless I've completely missed the mark on this whole thing (as I said, I'm no expert, this is just my observation) then this trickle, this distribution or what ever you may like to call it has flow on effects that are well worth having and integrating into our economical system.
Andrew Denton explains everything wrong with Australian Politics in 3 mins
Denton's comments on education in this clip sum up exactly how I feel about the importance of quality education. We need funding to get that quality but we also need a curriculum that is based in a world view of our nation that teaches generations we are part of a whole and does away with the "us v them" mentality that solely focusing on certain aspects of our culture/history/world standing creates.
I get so frustrated at the politics in this country because I donât give a shit about snide personal digs and politicians personal lives and I donât want to watch people dodge questions and attack each other from either side of a big cushy room where theyâre supposed to be working, I want to see the people that weâve elected and paid for working together and worrying about solving the problems the country faces rather than trying to protect their image and play sides
A pro-life group in Lansing, Michigan says fetal models have helped save a baby from a late-term abortion. Officials with 40 Days for Life in Lansing posted a picture of a set of fetal models that it says helped changed a womanâs mind about having an abortion. âI showed the 30-week model to a late-term mom who left the clinic and DID NOT have an abortion. Praise God!â the group wrote.
Literally none of these except the final one is anatomically correct. You literally have a minuturized born infant model as your 12 weeks and 8 weeks fetus, this is BLATANT misinformation and lies.
Additionally abortions at 30 weeks? Arenât legal ANYWHERE in the world unless the fetus is already fucking dead or cannot survive outside the uterus on its own. You didnât save ANYTHING, or else you are lying about gestational age OR they werenât actually going for an abortion or you made the whole story up.
This is propaganda, misinformation and lies, itâs disgusting and it doesnât actually help your movement. This is (among the reasons) why pro choicers think pro liars are full of shit, and refuse to respect you or your movement.Â
misinformation is disgusting to you but killing a baby is AâOKAYâŠalright
A baby is not the same thing as a fetus you fucking melon.
Cheap Chaplains
Genuine question.
Is the reason the current government favours funding chaplains in schools is because itâs cheaper for them to have faith based student welfare than professionals with training in welfare and development?
Just some thoughts in regards to Joe Hockeyâs comments on Australians receiving welfare.
If youâre told that 47% of people receive some form of government assistance - nearly half the country - and your response is that their assistance should be cut, Iâm curious as to your thought process.

you might want to read s 51(xxvi) of the Australia constitution which states:
that Parliament has the right to make laws with respect to: âThe people of any race for whom it is deemed necessary to make special lawsâ.
On this, our first prime minister, Edmund Barton said:

Anyone who has even a passing interest in feminism should read this article about how a patriarchal society is not just damaging for women. It outlines the many, many reasons why having a society that is geared towards any gender preference damages everyone. This is especially important in relation to the more recent emergence of so called âMenâs Rights Groups.â Men who buy into this kind of anti-feminist diatribe need to understand that feminism is a fight that has the ultimate aim of benefiting everyone and has nothing to do with dominance of any kind. Feminism always has been and always will be about fighting against the unfair treatment of women that has a wider impact on everyone in society.
How sad is it that cuts to public education means that schools are forced to crowd source wages for programs targeted at Indigenous students. A program that has a proven track record of substantially increasing the academic performance of Indigenous students. Make no mistake the government will continue to subsidise private schools that already take in massive fees from students and spend extravagantly on the upkeep of irrelevant extras like football grounds while continuing to gut our public education system, condemning the nationâs poor to lower middle class to substandard education.
Analysis of the budgetâs infrastructure spending has revealed Coalition electorates are favoured for new money by a ratio of three to one.
A Fairfax Media analysis of the Abbott governmentâs 2014 budget has calculated that, of the new projects announced and funded, just under three-quarters were in Coalition electorates.
Including the infrastructure projects which arenât new but which have received more funding under the incoming Coalition government, such as the Warrego Highway in Queensland and the Swan Valley Bypass in Western Australia, there was a total of 50 projects benefiting Coalition electorates.
In comparison, the majority of projects which lost federal funding in the 2013 election were in non-Liberal electorates, such as Melbourne Metro Rail in Victoria.

This is an important and pretty brave piece of writing from Aparna Khopkar.
Racism is stupid. Supremely stupid in fact. To let people off the hook for racist remarks because "they didn't know any better" is just not good enough. It should be the responsibility of everyone to educate on the effects of these kinds of comments and the damage it can do to other people.
Rich people get all the perks
Medibank is opening a trial program in the northern suburbs of Brisbane where members of their health fund will not have to pay any out of pocket costs to see a GP.
"âThis program is optional for both patients and GPs, and is about providing Medibank members with choices that may assist them to access a GP. This GP service could be added to their existing GP relationship, for example, ... if they are reluctant to pay an out-of-pocket cost for a basic consultation.â (X)
If this trial is successful and is rolled out to other locations, people that have the luxury of being able to afford private health insurance my be exempt from paying any upfront costs for medical consultations if they are reluctant to do so. Whereas the the poorer members of society who rely on the medicare system for access to any healthcare will have to pay a co-payment whether they like it or not. As someone who cannot afford private health insurance, this trial feels like a slap in the face.
Thanks to @ancientnorthmartian for bringing this to my attention.
